The last day of January, and 2017 is 1/12th over.  February will be busier for us.

*  Answered email, and we left at 11 a.m. for Costco for lunch and shopping.  Home by 12:30 p.m.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post and wrote Read the "Genealogy and Seniors" Article.  Took my nap.

My Genealogy Monday - 30 January 2017

Just another beautiful day in paradise...at least for a few days.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and home by 9 a.m. just in time to join Mondays With Myrt.  We discussed lots of topics, my only one of interest was the Three Degrees of Separation idea.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and downloaded the rest of the RootsTech syllabus articles.  Most of the afternoon sessions are duplicates.

*  Had lunch, noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 22 to 28 January 2017 and Amanuensis Monday - 1692 Probate Records for Henry Garnsey (1620-1692) Estate posted.

*  Watched some TV, dozed for 30 minutes, then online at 2:30 p.m. to check Facebook and write  Dear Randy: Tell Me More About Your One-Name Studies.

*  Went out in the front yard and picked weeds and leaves for awhile until Linda came home.  Watched TV news, read the paper, are dinner, and washed dishes.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, then wrote the Tuesday post, and added to the Best Of post.  Checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Sunday - 29 January 2017

Nine more get-ups before RootsTech.  I am so not ready!

*  Read email and blogs while watching Meet the Depressed, then off to church at 9:30, and to the store after and home by 11:45 a.m.

*  Answered email, read blogs, and then hand lunch and watched the golf tournament.  Got a 20 minute nap too.  Golf tournament over about 3:30.

*  Online to read, noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 22 to 28 January 2017 posted.  Transcribed a probate record for the Monday post.

*  Online at 6:30 to read, note that Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of 22 to 28 January 2017 posted.  Wrote the Amanuensis Monday post.

*  Found several more probate records and downloaded images and renamed them for two other ancestors.  Worked a bit in my Downloads folder putting stuff into real file folders so I don't lose them.

*  Checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.0 hours.

My Genealogy Saturday - 28 January 2017

This was almost an all genealogy day - and I got more research done.  Fun times.  Weather was cool (42F) in the morning, but around 70 during the day.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, then picked her up and took her home, grabbed the laptop bag and off to the Mission Valley FHC for the SDGS RootsMagic User Group.

*  Got there early, and talked to John and Bill, then we had 11 for the RMUG.  Tried to answer questins about features, especially GEDCOM, place lists, FamilySearch interaction, the Help feature, and much more.

*  Home by 1 p.m. to eat lunch, then dozed in the recliner watching TV.

*  Online after 2 p.m. to note that Surname Saturday -- LNU (married John Kenyon, Rhode Island) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Three Degrees of Separation posted.  Added to the Best Of post and answered email.

*  Worked on Seaver folks in the U.S Cemetery and Funeral Home Collection database on Ancestry, adding content and sources.  This is a pretty helpful database for 20th century people, combined with Suggested Records from other databases.

*  Then it was 5:30 and I went in to watch TV news, eat dinner, read the paper, and wash dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts, then resolved 245 Ancestry Record Hints adding some content and sources.  A lot of these are from databases I don't use.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 27 January 2017

I finally did some research after dinner tonight.  It was a busy day, and not all genealogy.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, came home to read email and blogs, picked her up at 9 z.m., and home, but then left to the car dealer for maintenance on the Altima.  It's been a year and 5,000 miles.  Took the newspaper, phone and tablet and got some reading done.

*  Home by 11:15 a.m. to read, noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 161: #226 Matthias Trimmer (1722-1793) of New Jersey posted, and wrote New Records to Search This Findmypast Friday, 27 January 2017.

*  Had lunch, answered email, added to the Best Of post, and sleepy, so dozed in the recliner.

*  Online at 2:30 p.m. to read, then wrote This Week's We're Related Relationships - 27 January 2017.  Checked Twitter and Facebook, and then wrote RootsTech 2017 Live Streaming Schedule.

*  Went in at 5:40 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, finish the paper and wash dishes.

*  Online at 6:40 p.m. to read, then wrote the two Saturday posts, and worked in Ancestry Hints adding content and sources.  Resolved 383 Hints tonight - a record.  Not all were useful of course.  Sources are at 80,490.

*  Add to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 26 January 2017

This was a stay-at-home genealogy day for me, but Friday won't be.  It was cool thism orning (42F at 7 a.m.) and sunny, and got up to about 65F in the afternoon.  clear as a bell, I should have driven to where I could see the snow on the mountains but I didn't.  I sure didn't advance the research ball today either - frustrating to waste so much time.  Drat.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, we went grocery shopping, and home by 9:45 a.m.  Noted that 1686 Birth Record of Ledia White (1686-???) in Mendon, Mass.-- Treasure Chest Post #350 posted.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and checked Ancestry Hints.  Rested my eyes for 30 minutes, then had lunch.

*  Wrote Dear Randy: What Newspaper Search Engine Do You Use?  Checked Facebook, worked in FamilySearch Family Tree a bit using RootsMagic.

*  Downloaded the JoyFlips app and registered, then played with it a bit.  I'm still confused on how to do some of the tasks.  Looked at more Ancestry Hints.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, read the paper, and wash dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and work on the 52 Ancestors biography.  Got confused and did the father of the person but figured it out eventually.

*  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 25 January 2017

Only two weeks now until RootsTech and I need to get into my Research Log to see what I need to do at the FHL.  I will probably go there on Wednesday during the Innovation Summit day.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y (first time in 6 days), then home to read email and blogs, picked her up and home to note that A Visit in 2011 From Linda's Brother and Sister-in-Law - Post 449 for (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted.  Wrote JoyFLIPS Partners with FamilySearch to Provide Additional Ways of Discovering and Preserving Family History and set it for later.  Rested my eyes for about 20 minutes.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for McDonalds for lunch, then to the library for my talk on Digital Microfilm to CVGS.  Was all set to go at 11:40.  The meeting started at 12:10, and I ended at 1:15.  We had only 26 in attendance - disappointing.  Oh well, I got paid.  The audience seemed to learn from it.

*  Home by 2:45 p.m. to read email and blogs, then took an hour nap, and online at 4 p.m. to write  Exploring the New FamilySearch Collection "Pennsylvania Civil Marriages, 1677-1950."  Checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, read the paper, put the trash out, and wash dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, and wrote a Treasure Chest post for Thursday.  Answered several emails and it's after 9, so I wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

*  Read email and blogs, and noted that Treasure Chest Tuesday - 1940 U.S. Census Record for S. Blair Mertes Household in San Francisco, Calif. posted.

*  Worked on the second MyHeritage presentation and pretty much finished it.  Less than 30 slides is good for 15 minutes.

*  Had lunch, read, added to the Best Of post, and did more MyHeritage searching.  Took my nap.

My Semi-Genealogy Sunday - 22 January 2017

This was not much of a genealogy day.  It was a church and football day mostly.

*  Ate lunch, watched the Packers/Falcons game and read the paper.  Dozed a bit at halftime.  Caught up on email and blogs after the game on the tablet.

*  Watched the Patriots/Steelers game too, finished reading the paper.  We ate dinner, and I washed dishes.  Two crappy games.

*  Online finally at 6:30 p.m. to read, start the Best Of post, noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 15 to 21 January 2017 and Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of 15 to 21 January 2017 posted.  Answered email.  Checked Facebook.

My Genealogy Friday and Saturday - 20-21 January 2017

It was rainy both days, with a major rain and wind storm on Friday afternoon.

1)  Friday, 20 January 2017:

*  Linda didn't go to the Y - we stayed in our jammies and watched the Trump inauguration.  I read email and blogs on my phone while waiting for things to happen.

*  Noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 160: #225 Christina (--?--) Abel (1730-1804) of New Jersey posted, then wrote New Records Available to Search This Findmypast Friday, 20 January 2017 and took a nap, then watched the parade.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and wrote This Week's We're Related Relationships - 20 January 2017.

*  At 2 p.m., in the middle of writing the post, the power went out and there was a loud noise outside the genea-cave window.  The wind was blowing, and it blew the neighbor's metal shed throguh the fence and into the back yard, close to the house, but there was no house damage.  It eventually lodged against the patio cover.  When the power came back on, our DirecTV said that the dish couldn't find the signal from the satellite.  Did it move that much in the wind?  I called DirecTV andf a tech was scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m.

*  We had dinner without any TV, read the paper and did the dishes.  I listened to news on the computer, and wrote the two Saturday posts.  Worked in FamilySearch Family Tree a bit matching persons in RootsMagic and adding content and sources.

*  Checked Facebook.  Didn't journal.  Genealogy this day was about 5,0 hours.

2)  Saturday, 21 January 2017:

*  Linda didn't go to the Y, but I went to the men's Bible study breakfast at 8 a.m.  Showed my pictures of the metal shed in my yard.  Home by 9:30 a.m.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, and noted that Surname Saturday -- PECKHAM (England to colonial New England) posted.

*  Talked to the neighbor and called the insurance company.  We have a $1600 deductible for Acts of God events.  There may not be enough damage to even file a claim.

*  Rested my eyes, had lunch, and then the DirecTV guy came and fixed the dish - signal back, all happy.  Don't know what happened.

*  Looked for a Yelp listing for debris removal and found about ten - contacted one and he gave me a quote that sounded good, so they came at 4 p.m. and dismantled the shed and the fence, and put it all in their truck trailer.  Took about an hour, and that's done.  Now I need to get a fence guy to replace the 12 feet of fence.  Drat.

*  Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - How Many Presidents? posted.  Downloaded the rest of the Friday syllabus articles from RootsTech using the app website - much faster and easier.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner, read the paper, watch the news and wash dishes.  Online at 7 p.m. to read, wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch weekend posts, then wrote CVGS General Meeting on 25 January Features Randy Seaver on FamilySearch Digital Microfilm.

*  Answered email, checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and worked in FamilySearch Family Tree some more.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.0 hours.

Thursday, January 19, 2017

My Semi-Genealogy Thursday - 19 January 2017

We woke up to rain, and it rained most of the morning, and cleared off a bit.  It will rain again on Friday and then again on Saturday.

*  Linda didn't go to the Y, so I read email and blogs, and noted that 1862 Marriage Record of Sophia (Buck) (Brigham) Newton to Jonathan Stone - Treasure Chest Thursday Post #349 posted.  Wrote The FamilySearch Family Tree Relationship Chart and set it for later.

*  Left at 10:45 a.m. for the Rohr Engineers lunch.  We had only 8 due to the rain.  Home by 12:45.  Took a short doze watching TV.

*  We left at 1:30 for the financial advisor's office, and stopped at the grocery store on the way home.  Home by 4:15 p.m.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, and went in at 5 p.m. to doze in the recliner, we ate dinner, I read the paper and washed dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, write the 52 Ancestor post, download 20 syllabus articles to the computer, and checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 5.0 hours.
