My genealogy Sunday - 23 December 2012

It wasn't much of a genealogy Sunday, but I did make some progress.

*  Read email and blogs, and got Best of the Genea-Blogs - 16 to 22 December 2012 ready to post.

*  Watched the pre-game show and Chargers game (we beat Jets 27-17).

*  Got the electronics in the laptop case, wrapped the gifts I have, and went off searching for a gift certificate at Von's and Best Buy without success.  So he gets  check with a picture of a gift certificate!

*  Home at 3:15 p.m. to read, check Facebook, watch more football, and play with the iPhone.  Added some apps.  Noted that Christmas Names in the Ancestry Records posted.

*  Online to answer email, read blogs, and then we had dinner and watched more football.

*  Online at 7:15 p.m. to read, wrote two more blog posts for the next week, then worked in Find A Grave on MyHeritage for awhile, adding content and sources.

*  Wrote this post.

Genealogy today was about 4.5 hours.

I'll be away for 8 days now, should return just in time for New Year's Eve!  Genea-Musings is on automatic pilot and this blog will be dormant for awhile.

My genealogy day - 22 December 2012

Two more shopping days (but I'm just about done...) and 9 more days in 2012.  Wow.

*  Read email and blogs, then noted that Surname Saturday - CLARK (England to colonial Massachusetts) posted.  Did my last minute online shopping.

*  Had more computer problems with slowness and memory use - rebooted and it helped a lot.  May have to do with Linda's identity.

*  Wrote Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Being Santa Claus and next week's also.  Wrote two more blog posts for next week.

*  Got laptop running, and put latest database into RootsMagic and FTM 2012.

*  After lunch, worked in the database for a long time adding content and sources from online resources.  Added some maiden names too.

*  Answered some email and put all of the Sent Mail into folders.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, eat dinner, watch football, and read my book.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, then worked in the database some more, and did 40 entries in California Death Index on MyHeritage.  Deleted a bunch of living people from the database too.

*  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My genealogy day - 21 December 2012

Hey, we're still here after Mayan Fools Day!  Now I'll go shopping!  Um, just remembered that Linda has been shopping for herself for weeks and has lots of stuff for herself which I can wrap.  Cool.

*  Read email and blogs - wrote Follow-Up Friday - Interesting and Helpful Reader Comments.  Wrote Advent Calendar of Christmas Memories - Days 15 to 21 and set it for later.

*  Wrote eight more blog posts for next week - mostly Christmas and end-of-year related.  I'm not going to have any time until 1 January to do any serious work or writing.

*  Left at 12 noon for the pharmacy, drug store, bank and post office to run errands.

*  Home after 1 p.m. to read, write more blog posts for next week, check databases, check Facebook and Google Plus, etc.

*  Had a major problem with 100% CPU usage, email loading slow, web pages loading slow, finally saw (after two reboots) the little indicator in the right taskbar that said my Firewall was not active.  Huh??  How did the happen?  I don't recall it ever happening?  I activated the firewall, rebooted, and everything perks along real nice...we'll see!  Wrote two more posts for next week.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to read the paper, watch the news, eat dinner and wash the dishes.

*  Onlnie at 6:45 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and try to think of something to blog about...nothing came to mind so I didn't.  Got into the database and checked many source citations for Dedham VRs (on AmericanAncestors) and Medfield VRs (on Google Books).  Added some, fixed some, deleted some sources.  Added many more Mass VR books (free!) to my Google Play book list.

*  Made a new GEDCOM file, and uploaded to FTM 2012.  Will put it into Dropbox tonight and load it tomorrow on the old laptop, then update all of the programs on the laptop.

*  Checked Facebook, answered some email, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My genealogy day - 20 December 2012

The end of the world?  When?  Tomorrow?  Oh no, if I back up my genealogy tonight will someone find it sometime?  Or has this all been for nought?  Oh well, nothing we can do about it.  If we wake up in the morning, and it's all still here, then i'll keep blogging.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - 1900 U.S. Census Record for Charles Auble Family.

*  We left at 9 a.m. for the shopping center to look for gifts for Linda, and get See's Candy as gifts for others.  What a debacle - two hours of wandering around stores with little that she was interested in.  Did get the candy, though, and I got two free pieces for my morning snack.

*  Home after 11 a.m. to read, then wrote Finished Using MyHeritage Record Matching for SSDI Matches.

*  Checked Ancestry and FamilySearch for new databases, and found Ranslow Smith in the Wisconsin BLM Tract collection.  Then worked in FamilySearch Family Tree for the two Kemp families.

*  Checked out the FamilySearch Books and read some, then had a "blue screen of death" experience, rebooted, and finished up FamilySearch "Books" - More than Old Books!  Checked Facebook, looked for an obituary in GenealogyBank for a CVGS query.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch the Poinsettia Bowl, eat dinner, read the paper.  Aztecs led 6-3 at the half, but BYU defense made it 23-6.

*  Online at 8:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and did 18 Find A Grave entries, plus more, from the MyHeritage list.  Added content and sources to the database.  Wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My genealogy day - 19 December 2012

Five more shopping days until Christmas - I think I'm going shopping tomorrow with Linda...and she showed me some jewelry in a catalog.  Cool.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 236: Marion and Betty at Cabrillo Monument and Tools on the RootsMagic App and set it for later.

*  Answered email, and packed up the laptop and off at 11 a.m. for McDonalds for lunch and then to the library for the CVGS Computer Group.  The library wifi was really slow...and there were too many conversations ongoing throughout the meeting.  Didn't accomplish much...but I wasn't the leader, just an attendee.

*  Home by 2:30 p.m. to read, then write Evidentia - Evidence Evaluation Software.  Wrote a book  review post for the week we're gone.

*  Worked in the database capturing birth, marriage and death records for Richmond and Seaver folks on AmericanAncestors, and adding sources for them.  Will upload the images to the database soon.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:30 to watch TV, eat dinner, put out the trash, read the paper and wash the dishes.

*  Online before 7 p.m. to read, then added more content for Richmond and White families using data on Ancestry, AA and Find A Grave.

*  Finished off the 774 (total) SSDI entries on the MyHeritage Record Search list.  Only 17 rejections, all 0.5 star matches.  Worked a bit on the California Death Index list - got 40 checked - I already had most of them sourced.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My genealogy Tuesday - 18 December 2012

It was another cold, rainy day outside the Genealogy Cave, so I stayed warm and toasty inside and played with genealogy stuff all day.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tuesday's Tip - Copyright Issues Presentation.  Watched the Evidentia YouTube videos - this looks pretty good, but there's a glaring problem.  Answered some emails.

*  Got the iPhone out and made some screenshots of Lists and Tools.  They look pretty good.  Wrote Lists on the RootsMagic App.

*  Called up Fold3 and renewed my subscription.  Played around on Fold3 looking for new stuff, didn't find anything earthshaking.  They have lots of Massachusetts town VR transcriptions.

*  Checked in on my Ancestry DNA matches.  Answered a message on Ancestry.

*  Started adding events, sources and media for the Schaffner family, but had to tune into the RootsMagic webinar on the RootsMagic app.  Got messed up in my file folders by not concentrating on what I was clicking on (Delete instead of Paste...that creates lots of problems!).  The webinar had audio problems, so they postponed it until 4 p.m.  That let me find my missing files in the Recycle Bin and get them back in order, and add more media to the database.  Wrote Whew, Multi-tasking Sometimes Creates Problems.

*  Watched/Listened to the webinar at 4 p.m. and didn't learn much.  Bruce did a good job of going through all of the screens on his iPad.  The iPad screens look different from the iPhone screens!

*  Went in for dinner at 5 p.m. watched TV news, read the paper and did the dishes.

*  Online at 6:15 p.m. to read, answer some email, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook and G+, and found a hotel room in Huntington Beach for Christmas.

*  Worked in the database for several hours, working with the Ca surnames.  Found quite a bit in Ancestry databases and AmericanAncestors databases, added some content and sources.

*  Wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My genealogy Monday - 17 December 2012

I still haven't gone shopping...except online.

*  Read email and blogs and wrote Amanuensis Monday - Martin Carringer's Revolutionary War Pension File: Post 3 - the Widow's Declaration.

*  Saw the RootsMagic app post and downloaded the app and loaded the database.  Took screen shots of my database.

*  Watched and listened to Mondays With Myrt webinar while doing the RootsMagic app work.

*  Researched and wrote First Look at RootsMagic App for iOS Devices.

*  Worked in the file folder system for awhile - added some images to the RootsMagic database for Jonathan Oatley and several others.

*  Researched and wrote How Can I Obtain Massachusetts Probate Records?

*  Worked to add content and sources for persons in my database using Ancestry, FamilySearch and AmericanAncestors databases.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, watch football, eat dinner and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 6:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, add more content to the database.  Added content and sources from the Peckham book I copied pages from back in 2011.  I need to do more of that from my "To be filed" file.  There are about 10 TAG articles to do.

*  Did the last 33 Record Matches for the SSDI on MyHeritage, but I have over 700 more low-star matches to look at.  Wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My genealogy day - 16 December 2012

This was a decent genealogy Sunday for me...mainly because the San Ddiego stinking Chargers were blacked out!

*  Read email and blogs, and finished up the Best Of post.

*  We left for church at 9:20 a.m., and were home at 12 noon after a stop at Ralph's for groceries.  Watched football and read the paper and had lunch until 1 p.m.

*  Online to note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 9 to 15 December 2012 posted and listened to the Chargers game.  It ended up 31-7, a loss to Carolina, and it wasn't that close.  That's the worst game of the year.

*  I spent the time listening to the game working on the Leland census events, sources and images.  Had to find several census records and save them.  That was fun...

*  Went in at 4 p.m. to watch football, and saw Charger lowlights afterwards.  Then the news, and we ate dinner watching the Sunday night game.

*  Came in at halftime to work, and never left!  Worked in the database in the Ca surnames...then found some Richard Smith of early Ipswich data that was interesting, so I collected some of it and straightened out his family.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.

My genealogy day - 15 December 2012

It was a cold rainy day again - missed getting to go to the CGSSD meeting (not held!).  Didn't go shopping, either!

*  Read email in a hurry, then off to Church men's Bible study breakfast at Jimmy's.

*  Home by 9:15 a.m. to read, note that Surname Saturday - ELLIS (England > Massachusetts) posted, and wrote the SNGF post.

*  Answered several emails, then started on the Surname file folders.  I wanted to get useful material into the Ancestor Files, especially books or reports that are authoritative.  This took several hours.  noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Blog Caroling!!! posted.

*  Did some research and answered email from an elderly Seaver looking for his ancestry.  Worked for several hours in Ancestry and FamilySearch to identify four generations of folks, including him in 1930 and 1940 census.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:15 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, eat dinner, and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to sort out the Leland-McKnew family stuff into organized file folders.  Got it mostly done, and files renamed to standards.  Now I can see what I don't have and can attach images to persons in the database.

*  Did 20 more SSDI entries and several Find A Grave entries from the MyHeritage Record Search lists.  Added content and sources to the database, plus checked several families on Ancestry to get birthplaces and approximate birth years.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 10.5 hours

My genealogy day - 14 December 2012

It was a stay-at-home day with sporadic  rain showers, and cold - it didn't get above 58F.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Follow-Up Friday - Interesting and Helpful Reader Comments. Researched for awhile, then wrote "Genealogies" Replaces "Trees" on FamilySearch Home Page.

*  Did some online shopping for Christmas.  Got boardwalk passes for the boys.

*  Found the missing England census records on FindMyPast.com for Rich and Richman, and captured the images, added the media, and crafted source citations for them.  Added them to the research logs.

*  Worked with the free trial Charting Companion program for awhile - it's not as good as I hoped. Deleted plenty of Alt. Birth and Alt. death events from Vaux and related persons.  Made a report - 11 pages of alt. births!

*  Answered some emails.  Checked Facebook, then wrote the Surname Saturday post and the two Advent Calendar of Christmas Memories posts.

*  Worked in the AMT scraping Mass Town records and ignoring other hints.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:30 p.m., then watched TV news until 6:30.

*  Online to read, then watched Mary Hill's webinar on Legacy.  Pretty good - I loved how she went from one record to another for one person...although she should have worked backwards IMHO.

*  Worked in MyHeritage record searches - did 20 SSDI entries and 11 FAG entries, adding content and sources.

*  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 11.0 hours.

My genealogy day - 13 December 2012

I guess I'd better start shopping soon...  It was a rainy day, 2nd most ever on this day, over 1.5 inches.  We need it.  The neighbor's lawn, never watered, is green today.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - 1910 U.S. Census Record for Charles Auble Family and Geni Limits Lifetime Memberships and set it for later in the morning.

*  Poked around in Geni for awhile, worked in the database some, added some document images to the Richmond family, and added some events also.

*  Left at 1 p.m. to the post office, then got a haircut, and home by 1:45 p.m.  Read, did some Ancestry Hints ignoring and saving only the Town/Vital Records stuff.  noted that some dates  indexed incorrectly and wrote Watch Out for Early Dates in Ancestry's "Massachusetts Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988" Collection.

*  Did more ignoring and accepting of Ancestry Hints.  Checked Facebook. Went in at 5 p.m. to read the paper, we ate dinner, watched TV news, and did the dishes.

*  Online at 6:45 p.m. to read, send the Christmas letter to blog friends, send the CVGS Newsletter to other society folks, and wrote 2012 Holiday Luncheon Highlights and another post.  Noted that

Blog Caroling posted.

*  Worked in the database - did 20 SSDI entries, and confirmed 4 Find A Grave entries (plus several more not on the MyHeritage list) adding sources and content to the database.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

My genealogy day - 12 December 2012

12 more shopping days, and 19 more days left in 2012.  I'm still wondering how I'm doing on my goals.  I don't dare look...

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 235: Betty and Fred Seaver in 1982 and 12 Genealogy Mysteries I'd Like to Solve and set it for noontime.

*  Packed up the lpatop, and set off at 11 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds, money at the bank, and at the library by 11:40 a.m. to set up for the Research Group in the Conference Room.

*  We had only 10 today, so it was a good group to work with.  Showed them some of my finds, and then went around the room for questions, problems and successes.

*  Left at 2:15 and got the Dell laptop at Costco for $400, reduced from $500 on Monday.  Cool.  Merry Christmas to me!

*  Home at 3 p.m. to read, ponder what to write, got sleepy so took a nap.  Ate dinner, watched TV news, read the paper, put out the trash, washed the dishes and folded letters and stuffed Christmas cards - the end of them for me!

*  Online at 7 p.m. to work in the database - added ToDo items to some of the Hilperton families and then found some of the census records already in the document files.  I need to attach them to the family members.  Do need to get digital images of the parish register records for the Hilperton folks.

*  Checked Facebook, then added to the Best Of post, and worked in the database adding SSDI entries (did 20) and Find A Grave (did 14 on MyHeritage list).  Wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My genealogy day - 11 December 2012

Tomorrow is 12/12/12 - ad I know where I will be at 12:12 AM (asleep) and PM (at the Chula Vista library), God willing!

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote Tuesday's Tip - Listen to Genealogy Gems Podcasts and Adding Amos Underhill's Land Deeds to RootsMagic 6 and set it for later in the morning.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for the Chula Vista South Library for the CVGS Holiday Luncheon.  Very nice, fun to talk to my colleagues.  No surprises.  Won a poinsettia in the drawing.

*  Home by 2:30 p.m., didn't go to Costco, maybe on Wednesday.  Couldn't think of anything to write, so answered email and read blogs and Facebook...finally wrote SDGS Seminar on 12 January 2013 Features David E. Rencher.

*  Went in for dinner at 5 p.m. to eat, read the paper, watch TV news, and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to write my 2-page Journal piece...then printed it off for the Christmas card/letter.

*  Worked in the SSDI for a bit - did 20 entries, adding source and content, down to 113 on the MyHeritage list now. Too tired to do more.

*  Added to the Best Of list, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.

My genealogy day - 10 December 2012

The damn procrastination gene got me again...drat.

*  Read email and blogs, then transcribed and wrote Amanuensis Monday - Revolutionary War Pension File of Martin Carringer: Post 2 - Affidavit.

*  Watched Mondays with Myrt - my first time live.  Found the New York Land Records on FamilySearch, found and saved two Amos Underhill deeds and wrote Using New York Land Records, 1630-1975, on FamilySearch.

*  Worked in the database for awhile, getting the Research log and To-Do lists updated for Amos Underhill and Samuel Vaux.

*  Left at 1 p.m. to take the 80 Christmas envelopes to the post office, then to two Costcos to check out the laptops again.  I saw an Acer with Windows 7 for $350 last week, but now they're gone.  There was a Dell with Windows 7 for $500...I may buy that for my Christmas present from Linda.  I shoulda got the Acer last week... Played with Windows 8 a bit too, but am totally confused by it.

*  Home at 2:30 p.m. to read, then wrote Dear Randy: What are Your 100 Favorite Genealogy Blogs?

*  Worked in the database some more, adding media and event tags to the media.  Did some file organizing and file name changing too.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:30 p.m., read the paper, watched the football game, washed the dishes and helped Linda play her birthday DVD on the computer.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, make sources for the two land records, then did 20 SSDI entries and 20 Find A Grave entries off the MyHeritage list - still a lot of FAG to do!  I'm gradually burning the numbers down.  Adding a lot of sources and some content in the process.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

I think I'll not correct any spelling errors in a post someday - it might be interesting, and unreadable!

Sunday, December 9, 2012

My genealogy day - 9 December 2012

It was the first good Sunday in a month, since the Chargers won!

*  Read email and blogs, and printed out the second page of the Christmas letter, but about 30 were spoiled by user errors or printer problems or ink.  Got the Best Of post ready to go.

*  Went in at 9:30 a.m. to watch the pre-game show, then watched my Bolts beat the Steelers 34-24 but it wasn't that close...13-3 at halftime, and 27-10 in the 4th quarter.

*  Came in at 2 p.m. to read, and noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 2 to 8 December 2012 posted and tweeted/Google+ it.

*  Went out at 3:15 p.m. to mow the front lawn in celebration of the Chargers victory (now 5-8 with no playoff hopes still).  Filled the bird feeders too.

*  Back in to watch the late game, take a nap, finish the newspaper, and fold a bunch of letters and seal the Christmas letter envelopes.  Got about 70 ready to go!  We had dinner watching the night game, and I washed the dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, then added some surnames to my filing system, added more file folders, and added some images from my downloads from the Massachusetts Town Records collection on Ancestry.  Need to source them too!

*  Fired up MyHeritage and did 20 SSDI entries on the list, and then did 13 Find-A-Grave entries from the list, but probably 50 total.

*  Checked Facebook, Pinterest and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 4.5 hours.

My genealogy day - 8 December 2012

Only 16 more shopping days until Christmas, counting Sundays...guess I'd better find out what Linda wants.  I want a laptop...and a DNA test!

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Surname Saturday - CLARK (England > Massachusetts) posted.  Worked on the SNGF post and set it for later.

*  Wrote the Christmas family letter and got the mailing labels printed.  Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Cassmob's Christmas Genea-Meme posted.  Had Linda proof the letter.

*  Worked a bit more in Pinterest...got a lot of friends but have no clue what to pin!  Joined several Communities on Google+.  Checked Facebook too.

*  Worked in the database a bit - got through the Bs finally!  On to the Cs!

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to read the paper, watch TV news, eat dinner and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, check Facebook, add to the Best Of post, and print 100 copies of the first page of the Christmas letter.  I'll let them dry out overnight and do page two tomorrow.  Linda got the envelopes labelled and stamped, and the cards signed.  My job is to make the letters, stuff the letters and lick the envelopes.  They should go out on Monday if everything goes well.

*  worked in the database for awhile - did 20 SSDI entries and about 14 Find A Grave entries on MyHeritage list (but did lots more FAG entries by using links to relatives).  Wrote this post.

My genealogy day - 7 December 2012

This was another stay-at-home genealogy day, and I finished one project.

*  Read email and blogs, then we went at 9 a.m. to pick up my car down at Olive Garden (I had to pick Linda up last night because she was sick).  Home by 9:30 to write We All Want Seamless Genealogy Data Transfers.  Created a new AMT for my 5-generation tree.

*  I must have done something useful between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m...oh, I know, I found a guy had copied a blog post in an AMT Story so I emailed him asking him to ask permission.  Found some helpful stuff on his tree.

*  Did a final edit of the CVGS Newsletter and printed it off.  Made the labels too.  Left at 2 p.m. for the UPS Store to publish it, and home by 2:45 p.m.

*  Wrote Ancestry Member Tree Hints and Images, then rejected most of the Hints for the Lucretia smith ancestry, but captured 10 useful ones and put them in my "To Be Filed" file.

*  We left for dinner at 5:30 for Lolita's, and were home by 6:15 p.m. Watched TV and read the paper until 7:30 p.m.

*  Online at 7:30 to read, check Facebook, write the Surname Saturday post, then added some SSDI entries to the database and rejected many NewspaperARCHIVE matches, all on MyHeritage Record Matches.  Transcribed several obituaries from the newspapers also.

*  Linda called at 6:30 p.m. saying she had an allergic reaction at Olive Garden with her GNO teacher group, and please come get her.  I got there in `10 minutes and was home by 7 p.m. - left my car there in the lot and will get it in the morning.  She had taken her Benadryl but did not have much dinner.

* Back to work on the newsletter, and finished it so I can send it on Friday.  Worked on the SSDI, then Newspaper Archive and Find A Grave in MyHeritage lists, adding sources and content.  Managed to add 120 sources to the file today.

*  Checked Facebook again, and wrote this post.

My genealogy day - 5 December 2012

Yikes, only 19 shopping days left until Christmas.  Gotta go get my laptop.  I wonder what Linda wants?

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 234: Cement Truck Bashes House and Ancestry Anne's 10 Favorite Search Tips.  Checked for new databases but didn't see any useful for the present.

*  Printed out the SOPs and CVGS Board stuff, then packed up and went for lunch at McDonalds, went to the bank, and to the library.  Talked to John, browsed the Jones Palatine books, and went to the Board meeting.  2.5 hours later, we were kicked out of the room.  Done, though.

*  Home by 3 p.m. to read, then write Dear Randy: How Should I Source My Birth Certificate?  Answered some email, added to the Best Of post and checked Facebook.  Made a GEDCOM in RM6 and imported it into FTM and LFT to make sure media transferred.  It did.

*  Went in to watch TV at 5 p.m., read the paper, eat dinner, wash the dishes and put the trash out.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, answer more email, started the CVGS Newsletter draft, then worked in SSDI and Find A Grave on MyHeritage matches, adding sources and content to the database.

*  Checked Twitter, and Facebook again, and wrote this post.

My genealogy days - 4 December 2012

I'm back to blogging again after a long weekend with just an hour or two to do something useful each day.  But we made a lot of family history!!!

1)  Saturday, 1 December:

*  Read email and blogs, went to the men's group breakfast at Jimmy's, and picked up Lori and the boys at the airport at 10:45 a.m.

*  Played with the boys almost all day, Lori went to Lisa's to make the cake, and Paul and Deb came at about 4 p.m.  We went out for dinner at Miguel's at 6 p.m. and Paul and Deb left after 9 p.m.

*  Finished up the Best Of post!

2)  Sunday, 2 December:

*  Got the boys fed, read email and blogs quickly, added to the Best Of post, and off to church at 9:30 a.m.  Home at 11:30 a.m. to watch football, play with the boys, then they left at 1 p.m. to meet Tami and the girls.  Paul and Deb came at 2:30 p.m. and we watched football.

*  Lori and the boys, and Tami and the girls, met at 3 p.m. for pictures, then went to Black Angus at 4 p.m. to get the room set up.  Linda and I left at 4:45 p.m. with Paul and Deb for the restaurant.

*  We got there at 5 p.m., and Linda was really surprised by the group of 35.  The room looked great with pictures.  Paul and Deb set up the screen and projector.  I went around greeting people.  We played the Linda's favorite stories guessing game.  The kids took pictures, as did James.  Lori had ordered the hors d'oeuvres, we ate off the banquet menu, etc.

*  Before dessert, I took the kids out to play hide and seek for awhile.  Then in to see the video made by Paul and Deb.  Linda was speechless... we had the cake (Lori's for Linda with candles, a Costco cake for the rest of us).  Then goodbyes and cleanup and paying  and home.  Deb and Paul left after 9 p.m., and were going home on Monday.

*  Whew!  Tami and Lori did a wonderful job on the party, and Deb and Ashley did a fantastic job on the video.  I did a good job of paying for it all.

3)  Monday, 3 December:

*  Linda's actual birthday, and it was a pretty quiet day.  Did get to read email and blogs.  Wrote Amanuensis Monday - Revolutionary War Pension File of Martin Carringer - 1. Declaration and Have you checked Ancestry's New and Updated Collections Lately?

*  We were planning on going to Disneyland, but Lori felt sick, so I took the boys to Fun-4-All for the arcade games and mini-golf in the morning, then to Italy place for lunch (pizza), brought food home for Lori.  She took them to Toys R Us to get them a prize for being good on Sunday.

*  Played with the boys some, then Linda and I took Ruth's mail to her and stopped at the Italy place and Subway for dinner for all of us.

*  Did some reading in the evening, and started the next Best Of post.

4)  Tuesday, 4 December:

*  Got the boys fed and watching TV, read email and blogs, and wrote Tuesday's Tip - California Digital Newspaper Collection and WikiTree Announces "Cousin Bait" Toolkits.

*  Lori packed up and we left at 11 a.m. for the airport.  I was home by 12 noon to read, eat lunch, get the laundry started, and clean up a bit.

*  Wrote I'm Related by Marriage to Hawaiian Royalty and then worked in the database for awhile.  Went in at 2:45 p.m. to take a nap and watch TV.  Online again at 4 p.m. to work in the database, adding content and sources.  Got the Christmas card address list printed for Linda to check for accuracy.

*  We ate dinner at 5:30 p.m., watched TV, read the paper, and washed the dishes.

*  Online again at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and work in the database - in American Ancestors, then did 40 entries in the SSDI on MyHeritage.  Also researched  two disconnected Seaver families in census records.

*  Checked Facebook and Google+, answered some email, and wrote this post.

My Genealogy Friday - 30 November 2012

11 months down, one to go.  Christmas shopping does not excite me ... unless it's for me!  A little rain this afternoon and evening.

*  Up late because of not sleeping 4-6 a.m....read email and blogs, then wrote Follow-Up Friday - Helpful and Interesting Reader Comments from the Past Week and got ready to go out.

*  Left at 10 a.m. for Sharp-Rees-Stealy for regular checkup.  Pulse rate high for some reason...maybe the nurse's technique.  Everything else OK, weight down 2 pounds since last visit in July.  Who knew?  I've been afraid to get on the scale!

*  Went to Costco for a Polish dog, then checked out laptops.  Played with Windows 8 a bit - very different...not sure I'm ready for that!  Bought flowers for Linda's birthday.  Then to Kearny Mesa to rent the screen for Sunday...$35 a day!

*  Home by 2 p.m. to read, futzed around for awhile trying to decide what to write, had some false starts, finally wrote Exploring RootsMagic 6 - Post 6: The "Enhanced Searching and Selecting" Feature.  Messed around in Geni.com for awhile too.

*  Wrote the Surname Saturday post and two CVGC posts.  Went in for dinner at 5:45 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, and then washed dishes while Linda was on the computer.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, write the SNGF post, then settled in to do 20 SSDI entries and 12 FAG entries on the MyHeritage list.  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

Well - three more days until we celebrate Linda's big birthday - I hope she'll be surprised.  Now don't tell her!

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - 1870 U.S. Agricultural Census Record for Henry Carringer in Iowa.  Wrote two posts about Newspapers.com also but held them until 1 p.m.  Wrote More Information about Geni.com Changes.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper and have dinner, then washed the dishes and put the bandage on Linda's toe.

My genealogy Wednesday - 28 November 2012

only 27 days until Christmas!

*  Read email and blogs, posted MyHeritage Acquires Geni.com, Raises $25 Million right away, then worked on (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 233: Three Richmond Cousins in 1982 and set it for later.  In the mean time, Dear Randy: Geni.com is now (Not All!) Free! came in via email so I posted that too (and had to update it later).  Researched and wrote Exploring RootsMagic 6- Post 5: the Find Everywhere Feature and set it for early afternoon.

*  Packed up and left at 11 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds, then to the bank, and the library to get a book and attend the CVGS meeting.  Georgie Stillman did her usual fine job of discussing members semi-worthless but cherished heirlooms.

*  Home by 2:30 p.m. to read, then worked in the database for awhile.  Did some of the Ancestry Hints in the Lucretia Smith line.  Found the Killingly VR index photos that I couldn't find last night - in with Connecticut VRs (duh!) cleverly named Killingly VR.  Worked on the Lincoln line.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner, watch TV, read the paper, put out the trash and do the dishes.  Helped Linda with her toe soaking.

*  Finally online at 7:15 p.m. again to read, add to the Best Of post, answer some email, and work more on the Lincoln line.  Also did some database source entering using NEHGS site, then did 20 SSDI confirmations on MyHeritage.  Checked Facebook and wrote this post.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 27 November 2012

Five more days until the big event...more on that later in the week!

*  Read email and blogs and wrote Tuesday's Tip: Check Out Genealogy Software Reviews.  Was happily toiling away on he next post, had it almost done, when the phone rang at 10:30 and Olive said "are you OK? you were supposed to be here at 10."  Oops - didn't check my Google Calendar today...printed the papers, got dressed and out the door and there by 11 a.m. for the CVGS Bylaws meeting.  Perhaps the last one this year.

*  Home by 2 p.m. to read, eat lunch, and finish up the Evaluating the Evidence: When and Where was Sophia (Newton) Hildreth (183?-1923) Born? post.

*  Worked in the database some more adding media and tagging events with the media.  Added quite a bit, and will make a new website tonight.

My Genealogy Monday - 26 November 2012

This was the day of the last OASIS class for the year...and I got some real work done too.

*  Up early and off to the health clinic to get my blood work done.  Got there at 7 a.m. and read email and blogs while I waited.  Finally in at 7:55 a.m. and out by 8, and home by 8:10 a.m. to have breakfast.

*  Checked the laptop bag, found the flash drive, checked Google Drive and Dropbox for backups - yep, they're there.  Noted that Amanuensis Monday - Will of Thomas Carter (1566-1652) of Charlestown, Mass.posted.

*  Off at 9:15 a.m. to Macy's in Mission Valley for the OASIS class.  Started at 10:15, over at 12 noon.  Another class done...picked up my check, wished the staff Merry Christmas and home by 12:45 p.m. to have lunch.

*  Online at 1:15 p.m., noted that Exploring RootsMagic 6 - Post 4: Enabling Facts in Reports and Web Pages posted.  Did some editing of the next post.

*  Finally got into the database - added some content and sources for some Bu names, almost done with the Bs!  Added more sources and images to recent ancestral families too.  Noted that How Can We Communicate "The Right Way?" posted.

*  worked some more in the database until 5 p.m. when Linda called dinner, and we ate watching the news, then read the paper until 7 p.m.

*  Home from church at 11:30 a.m., watched football and read the paper.

*  Came in at 1 p.m. and noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 18 to 24 November 2012 had posted.  Listened to the Chargers game and worked on my database for the whole game.  Added lots of citation details, and some citations, to family papers.  couldn't find the Kemp typed sheet, or Austin's death certificate.  Drat.  Chargers lost 16-13 to Ravens in overtime.  They actually played a decent game.

*  Went in for dinner and to watch TV news.

My genealogy Saturday - 24 November 2012

It was a stay-at-home Saturday, except for lunch and dinner outings to give Linda some go-somewhere time.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Surname Saturday - SMITH (England > Massachusetts) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Baby Name Wizard ad set it for later.

*  Worked in the Ancestry Member Tree again, pruning out the useless Hints and saving the good Hints (mainly Mass. Town and Vital Records) to a separate file folder for later attaching.  Also named the Norman Seaver probate record images.

*  We left at 11 a.m. to go to In 'n' Out for lunch, then stopped at Sprouts on the way home.

*  Home at 12:30, worked in Find-A-Grave for several hours using the MyHeritage list, adding content and sources when needed.  Found a probable error in a Fletcher memorial, so used the Chelmsford VR book to try to sort out several same name-same place families (Samuel and Mary Fletcher...).  Took awhile, and I added some citation details to death and marriage sources...lots more Fletchers to do in Chelmsford and Westford!

*  Worked on the CVGS First VP SOP to get it into the right format.

*  We left at 5 p.m. to go to dinner at Outback.  Got right in, filet dinner, even a cocktail!  Big night!  Home by 6:30 p.m. to watch the end of the USC-ND game and read the paper and then latest American Ancestors Magazine.

*  Online at 8 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, and then did the Carringer line of source quality (Source-Info-Evidence) checks in RootsMagic.  Added some sources, some source details and some images along the way.

*  Wrote this post.

My genealogy Thursday and Friday - 22 and 23 November 2012

Two more days gone, 2012 has only 39 days left!  I guess I'd better see how i'm doing on my goals and objectives.

1)  Thursday, 22 November 2012:

*  Got up twice in the night with Audrey, she ended up on the couch!  We had a light breakfast and tried to get ready for brother Scott's visit at 10 a.m.  I managed to read email and blogs, noted that I Am So Thankful ... posted.

*  Scott and family arrived right at 10 a.m., and Tami and Dawn got the brunch going.  Waffles, bacon, hash browns, fruit...and we enjoyed it.

*  We talked about the families, played with the kids outside, watched a little football, and took some pictures outside.  They left at 2:45 p.m. to go to Dawn's parents for Thanksgiving Dinner.  I noted that My Mayflower Connections - Soule, White, Warren, Cooke, Brewster, Hopkins and Fuller posted as planned.

*  Before my nap, I checked the stove - the turkey was put in at 1 p.m. but was not cooking.  Got it going at 3 p.m.  Took a short nap watching football and reading the paper, then played with the girls, and helped with dinner preparations.  Held the turkey down while Linda carved it at 5 p.m.

*  Thanksgiving dinner was turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, stuffing and cranberry sauce and bread.  Lauren said the prayer and we all held hands and said what we were thankful for.  Dessert was pumpkin pie or cheesecake (or both) with vanilla ice cream.

*  Tami and family packed up and headed home at 7 p.m.  I cleaned up the kitchen, Tami had the dishes in the washer.  Took out the trash and put the cans out.

*  Finally online at 8 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook and didn't write a journal post.  Managed to get 40 SSDI entries confirmed using the MyHeritage list so I actually did some genealogy work this day!  Went to bed early!

Genealogy on Thursday was 3.0 hours.

2)  Friday, 23 November 2012:

*  Remembered to get up early to have my blood work done at Sharp...they were closed!  Wasted 30 minutes, drat.  Ate breakfast late.

*  Online at 8:30 a.m. to read email and blogs, then wrote Follow-Up Friday - Interesting and Helpful Reader Comments.  Made a new My RootsMagic website and uploaded it, fixing some problems and adding more events and images.

*  Worked in the database for awhile, had a long phone call with Jon, then hunted for more town records on Ancestry.  Got through Benjamin Seaver ancestors on Ancestry ignoring many hints and downloading records from the town records.  I expected more than I found.  Saved and named downloaded images, and added them to the database.

*  Wrote Pruning my Ancestry Member Tree Hints.  Continued working in Mass town records with Seaver families.  Also named files for Seaver probate records that I scanned some months ago.

*  Did a little research for an email correspondent, and answered several emails.  Found that one line in my database should have been Leaver instead of Seaver, and added content to that line.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:30 p.m., watched TV news, read the paper and washed the dishes.

*  Back online at 7:30 p.m. to read, check Facebook, work some more on Seaver probate files and vital record images, added more images and tags to the database.  Went through the Seaver ancestors adding Source-Info-Evidence quality checks to the sources.  Need to do the Carringer and Richmond lines too.

*  Confirmed 40 entries in SSDI using the MyHeritage list - down to 437 left.  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

Linda went out for lunch with Barbara today, is up and aroundm ore, and is bored lying around.  Her toe is still seeping...she iced it again tonight.

Genealogy today was 10.5 hours.

My genealogy Wednesday - 21 November 2012

The grandgirls came today, so genealogy was limited to reading and just a little database work.

*  Read email and blogs, then noted that (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 232: Aunt Emily in 1960 posted, and later that Exploring RootsMagic 6 - Post 2: Online Publishing posted.

*  Started work on the third RootsMagic post but Tami and the girls came at 11 a.m.  We went to lunch at Lolita's because Tami had to work in Mission Valley at 1 p.m.  I got them home, and went off to the library to transfer the CVGS projector back to Gary at the Computer Group meeting.

*  Home by 1 p.m. to get the Exploring RootsMagic 6 - Post 3: My RootsMagic Family Tree Website post finished and set for later.  Updated a lot of apps on the Galaxy including Ancestry.com, and tested it.

*  Audrey couldn't nap, but I did from 2 to 3 in my chair.  She happily played while I snored.  Played with both girls for awhile, and Lolo helped me weed the front plants a pit.

*  I came in at 5 p.m. and we went to El Pollo Loco for dinner.  The girls eat really well!

*  Home at 6:30 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, play with the girls, tend to Linda's toe, and get the girls in the shower.  Tami came home, and the girls went to bed easily at about 8:30.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, checked some boxes in RootsMagic to include Events in the online publishing, confirmed another 40 SSDI entries using the MyHeritage list and adding sources when necessary.  Wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 5.5 hours.

My genealogy Tuesday - 20 November 2012

It was "play with the new RootsMagic 6 day."

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tuesday's Tip: the Hathi Trust Digital Library and then Exploring RootsMagic 6 - Post 1.

*  I spent awhile figuring out how to do the Publish Online and made several sets of files and loaded them on the RootsMagic site.  I couldn't show more than one site - the second one replaced the first even though I had changed the name.

*  Left at 12:45 p.m. for the derma doctor and stopped at the pharmacy on the way back.

*  Home at 2 p.m. to read, watch the Legacy webinar, wrote two posts for Thursday, make one more "big" RootsMagic publish file, and then wrote Dear Randy: Is Find A Grave a Reliable Source?

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to eat dinner, watch TV and read the paper.

*  Online at 6 p.m. to watch the RootsMagic webinar, tweeted a bit about it, and then wrote two posts for Wednesday (because the girls are coming tomorrow afternoon for Thanksgiving).  Modified the My.RootsMagic.com/rjseaver site again... can't resist!

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My genealogy Monday - 19 November 2012

It was a decent genealogy day today - my 3rd OASIS class was today, and I got new software to play with.

*  Read email and blogs, started a new Best Of post, and noted that Amanuensis Monday - Will of Joseph Carter (1604-1676) of Woburn, Mass. posted last night (my mistake...).

*  Got Linda's bandage fixed up, and left at 9:15 a.m. for the OASIS class. Got there by 9:40, got set up, and had 8 students today (out of 9 registered) for the 3rd class.  Ancestry.com wild card searches worked on the laptop there with Firefox like a charm.

*  Done by 12:15 p.m. and home by 12:45 p.m. even with a stop at the gas station.

*  Read, tried to duplicate Ancestry wild card searches and failed again.  Is it Chrome?  Had the Widdit adware pop-up and tried to figure out how to get rid of it.  McAfee and MSS did not show it, and it disappeared after I ran both of them.  Strange.

*  We left at 2:15 p.m. to visit Ruth, then to Dolla Tree for plates and napkins for Thanksgiving, and were home by 3 p.m.

*  Linda wanted to see her toe pix on Facebook with all of the comments, and then spent an hour doing her email.  Argghhh.

*  Finally online at 4 p.m. to read and wrote Pruning the Tree - a Wrong Buck Family.  Did some work on Amos Underhill family - downloaded census records.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:30 p.m, read the paper, watched football and did the dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, add citations for Amos Underhill census records, found some Find-A-Grave records for him also.

*  Worked in the database on Buck and other names, adding content and sources.  Almost done with the B names!

*  Decided to download RootsMagic 6.  Download worked fine, paid for it, got the registration key, and can't figure out how to get the key into the program so I can use it.  Sent an email to RM.

*  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My rotten Sunday - 18 November 2012

The day started out bad for me, and got worse...

*  I was awakened from a sound sleep at 5:40 a.m. by Linda calling for me.  She had dropped the frozen turkey in the freezer on her right foot, and was bleeding.  I tried to clean it up, but it kept bleeding and we decided to go to the ER.  Got her there by 6:40 a.m. and they took her in immediately for x-rays.  I sat in the lobby, using the iPhone to read email, blogs and add Ancestry Hints, until 9:15 when I went in to be with her.  They had finally gotten the x-rays that showed her middle toe on her right foot was fractured - shattered the tip of that toe.  The doc came in and put in 8 stitches to close the bleeding wounds, and gave us a prescription, a walking shoe, and directions for treatment.  I posted pictures of the toes on Facebook... and both girls called to check up on her.

*  She was released at 10:45 a.m. and we were home by 11 a.m.  I went to Ralphs to get the prescription and some food items.  I changed the dressing, got the pills down her, and we ate lunch.  She can walk on it.  She called Tami and begged off having the girls for the week here.

*  We watched the Chargers game - worst effort of the year in the first half.  They lost to Denver 30-23 but it wasn't that close.  now 4-6.  A terrible day so far.

*  Managed to tweet about Best of the Genea-Blogs - 11 to 17 November 2012 posting, and read email and blogs.

*  Went in to help with dinner and we ate watching the news and then football.  I did the dishes, and gave her pills and changed the dressing.  It's still oozing blood on the right side of the toe - looks like the stitches didn't close the wound completely.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, write a post for Monday which went up by mistake, and worked in the database adding sources and content (mainly the Buck data from Connecticut towns).

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 3.0 hours.

My genealogy Saturday - 17 November 2012

Well, November is moving right along, isn't it?  It's Thanksgiving next week, and Linda's birthday the weekend after.  We have something big planned, but don't tell her!

*  Read email and blogs hurriedly, then off to UCSD for the CGSSD meeting.

*  Got the just before 9 a.m., paid my 2013 dues, and participated in the RootsMagic class led by Chris.  Then over for a snack, and the business meeting for elections and website review - www.cgssd.org has modernized!  About time!  Everett Ireland gave his Non-Population Schedules talk.  Had lunch there and talked to folks.

*  Home by 12 noon to read, note that Surname Saturday - GRANDE (colonial Massachusetts) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - 100 Word Challenge - Grandparents posted.
