My Genealogy Saturday - 30 November 2013

The end of November - now I need to get serious about Linda's birthday, Christmas and Christmas cards.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Surname Saturday - CHURCH (England to colonial New England) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Do Some Semi-Random Research.

*  Edited the William Widley post, and checked what readers found, and they were right.  Shoulda been Wildey - never thought of it!

*  Worjked in the database off and on, and watched football too.  We left at 4 p.m. to take the guinea piggies back to Tami and the girls.  Met for dinner at Miguel's in Carlsbad, ate, transferred the piggies, and were home after 7:30 p.m.

*  Watched the first half of SDSU-UNLV game, down 24-7 at the half.  Decided to work in the database rather than watch it to the end.  Aztecs lost 45-19, to finish 7-5.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

Here are the numbers from my RootsMagic database as of 30 November (with increases in the numbers from 31 October 2013 in parentheses):

* 47,312 citations (+ 1416)

*  595 Multi-media Items (+ 110)

*  1,777 Multimedia links (+ 295)

 I'm up to 37.39% (+0.76%) for citations/events and 111.41% (+2.63%) for citations/persons.

My Genealogy Friday - 29 November 2013

It was Black Friday - a big shopping day.  I stayed home and added lots of content to my database.  Did a bit of blogging too.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Reader Comments About Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 Posts.  Explored Legacy Family Tree V8 a bit more.

*  Worked in the three DNA sites on matches for awhile, more are added occasionally.  Searched by surname this time - precious few Seaver folks have tested autosomal DNA.

*  Wrote five blogp osts for the CV Genealogy Cafe, and November 27th Program Summary - "Heirloom Discovery Day" with Georgie Stillman and CVGS Holiday Luncheon is Wednesday, 11 December 2013 at Chula Vista South Branch Library posted.  The others will go up in the next week.

*  Decided to write about the William Widdle search, so wrote Who is William Widdle?  I have no clue, and no evidence that he ever existed.

*  Captured some Find A Grave photos of my ancestors and added them to the database.  Got through most of the Carringer folks, still have Seaver folks to go.  And Leland folks too.

*  Went in for piggy feeding at 4:30 p.m., and then we ate dinner, watched TV and read the paper.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and then worked on the database adding census summaries to Facts, transcriptions from Treasure Chest Thursday posts to Facts, and some obituaries also.   Sources are at 47,276 and media items at 595.

*  Checked Facebook, read email, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.0 hours.

My Thanksgiving Day - 28 November 2013

It was a very quiet Thanksgiving - I only watched about 30 minutes of football, and was on the computer all day except for when we went out for dinner.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that I Am So Thankful ... posted.  Worked in Legacy V8 for awhile, then posted My Mayflower Connections - Soule, White, Warren, Cooke, Brewster, Hopkins and Fuller.

*  Worked some more in Legacy 8, started a list of problem areas, and eventually posted First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 2: Pedigree Charts.  Added the 4-color scheme to the database, and the Pedigree chart showed colors for me, my parents and grandparents, but nobody else.

*  Used problem messages in both LFT8 and RM6 to correct major problems in the database - mainly dates the wrong century.  Got the piggies cage cleaned and new litter down while Linda fed them carrots.

*  We left at 4:40 p.m. for the Black Angus for Thanksgiving dinner.  Had a 5 p.m. reservation and we got right to a table, but it was really packed.  Decent dinner, not like Linda used to make, but she didn't have to cook for the two of us.  And there was no frozen turkey to drop on her toe this year.

*  Home by 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and work in the database adding content and sources.  Several difficult problems that I can't figure out.  Got a spouse's name somewhere, but have no clue where!

*  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 27 November 2013

This was the CVGS Program day, so my at-home work was disrupted a bit.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 284: Molster Farm (above Voss, Norway) Visit in 1999.

*  Received my Legacy Family Tree customer ID number, so managed to easily upgrade my Version 8 to the Deluxe edition.  Then made some screen shots and wrote First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 1: A Walk Around the Menus, Buttons and Tabs.

*  Packed up and went to McDonalds for lunch, got to the library at 11:30 and sat in on John's group for awhile, then to the auditorium to have snacks and enjoy the CVGS program.

*  Got a book, stopped at the bank, and was home by 3 p.m.  Read, answered some email, and then wrote Dear Randy - How Do You Do Your Record Transcriptions?  Had a San Diego cousin contact me about family photos.  Cool.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV, eat dinner, read the paper and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to look through the recent ancestors, add some alternate names, attach sources to them, add fact notes for vital and census facts, and add some family photos to several persons.  Need to do more of that.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered more email, wrote two posts for Thursday, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.5 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 26 November 2013

Two more days until Thanksgiving, 7 more days until Linda's birthday, and 29 days until Christmas.  Wonder what she wants?

*  Read email and blogs, and noted that Legacy Family Tree 8.0 Genealogy Software Released Today posted early this morning.  Wrote Tombstone Tuesday - Mary Ann (Underhill) Vaux (1815-1883).

*  Downloaded material from 23andMe just in case they fold.  Got the raw data, my matches, health stuff, etc.  Not sure I have everything.  Spent some time checking out the matches - vfery few have trees past 2-3 generations.  That's frustrating.

*  Researched and wrote Transferring Media Files Between Software Programs - Post 6: Family Tree Maker GEDCOM Imported Into RootsMagic 6.

*  Washed the furnace filter - had a hard time getting the panel off, then had a harder time putting the filter back in.  It's not flexible!  Watered the front plants too.  Linda fed the piggies carrots and they pooped some more on the towel.

*  Worked in John's tree for awhile, finding Find A Grave images and source citations, and adding images from FamilySearch.  Didn't add too many - slow going.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper and ate dinner.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and tried to download the new Legacy Family Tree version 8.  It hung up about half way through.  Checked Facebook too.  Posted Help Launch a New Genealogy Fiction Series.

*  Worked in the database on some of James' ancestral families - added quite a few persons with content and sources.  Then started in on the Ed persons in the database and got quite a few updated with content and sources.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 25 November 2013

It was pretty much a full genealogy day - even found some goodies on FamilySearch!

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 196 - Will of Philip Jacob King (1738-1792) of York County, Pennsylvania posted.

*  Packed up and left at 9:10 a.m. for Mission Valley to teach my OASIS class.  Had only 7 today for the last class.  Got paid...was home by 1 p.m.

*  Ate lunch, noted that Dear Randy: How Do You Get Screen Images Into Your Blog Posts? posted.

*  Answered email, made a GEDCOM file in FTM 2014, and wrote Transferring Media Files Between Software Programs - Post 5: Family Tree Maker 2014 GEDCOM Created.

*  Answered more email, and found some sources in England for my Vaux family.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to read the paper, eat dinner, and watch TV.  Watched some of the 49ers-Skins game.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, then listened to Mondays With Myrt and searched the Pennsylvania Probate Records for Rudolf Spangler, Baltzer Spangler, Mary Spangler and Daniel Dinkel in York County, and for Jacob Wilhelm in Lancaster County.  The latter supports the parentage of Maria Barbara Wilhelm.  Cool!  Saved the pages, renamed and put them in surname folders for transcription.

*  Wrote a blog post for Tuesday morning, Checked Facebook, then did 17 Find A Grave matches using MyHeritage record matches.  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Sunday - 24 November 2013

Will wonders never cease - the Chargers beat the Chiefs today.

*  Read email and blogs, then finished off the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 17 to 23 November 2013 post.

*  Left for church at 9:30 a.m., greeted at the door and headed home at 10 a.m. to watch the Chargers game.  Read the paper, rooted hard, and the Bolts beat the Chiefs 41-38 with 8 lead changes.  Great game for fans, at least Charger fans!

*  Online for awhile to transcribe a will in Pennsylvania probates, but got sleepy so went in and had a nap watching the Cowboys-Giants game.  We ate dinner, I finished the paper and read my book a bit, and watched the first quarter of the Broncos-Patriots game.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, write two blog posts for Monday, put my handouts together for the OASIS class, and added info to the database for the Philip Jacob King will.  Wrote some emails too.

*  Got into MyHeritage record matches with Find A Grave matches, and confirmed 40 more.  Down to 860 to go.  Added content and sources to the database, up to 46,903 source citations.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 5.0 hours.

My Genealogy Saturday - 23 November 2013

I panicked early this afternoon when my Google Calendar alarm went off and said I was supposed to be at the library for a presentation.  Whew!  It's in two months - rescheduled!

*  Read email and blogs, and noted that Surname Saturday - TOMPKINS (England to colonial Rhode Island) posted.

*  Researched and wrote Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Show Us Your Ancestry.com Surname Distribution Maps.

*  Decided to add some Life Sketches to the FamilySearch Family Tree.  Did at least 12 of them, copying text, pasting it in, and editing to eliminate source citations and extraneous material.   Then decided to hunt for descendants of some of the Richmond siblings (because they are cousins of mine) in the FSFT.  Added some dates and places to many profiles, and gleaned some descendants too.  Found several maiden names, and sorted out several mysteries that I didn't know I had.  Got into the Buck data too, and found more descendants there too.  The biggest problem is cleaning up the place names that accumulate when you take data from the FSFT.

*  Before I knew it, it was 5 p.m.  spent at least 6 hours doing this.  Went in to watch TV, read the paper and eat dinner.  Watched The Chase again, and then washed dishes.

*  Online for awhile, and got about half of the place names reviewed, some merged, some deleted, some geocoded, some corrected.  A big job.  Probably looked at 3,000 or more, and worked on several hundred.

*  Went in at 8 p.m. to watch the SDSU Aztecs game with Boise State.  Another overtime game - Aztecs won 34-31 to go 7-4 on the season, with one game and a blow game remaining.

*  Checked email and blogs while watching, and then online at 11 p.m. to read and write this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 22 November 2013

50 Years Ago was a pretty bad day for me and my father and most everybody else...

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Where Was I 50 Years Ago Today at 11 a.m. PST?

*  Started to work on the library presentation for Saturday, checked my email and finally figured out that it was postponed two months.  Okay, next task!

*  Researched and wrote Genealogist Beware: DeathRecords.org is a Commercial Site.  Got some comments...

*  Worked on answering email, got sidetracked with links to the new local historical society.  Read and saved some nifty maps from the 1890 time and some SD Journal of History issues.

*  Researched and wrote DearMYRTLE's Google+ Hangouts on Air - Mondays With Myrt, and More! and Challenges of a Shared Ancestry Member Tree but forgot to publish it and did it two hours later.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper and eat dinner.  Washed dishes too, and fed the piggies.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to write the Surname Saturday post, hen worked in friend John's tree for too long.  Had trouble getting FTM to open, it finally did, so compacted the file and it worked faster and better.  Added several more families, some sources and cleaned up the place names and looked into source cleanup.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 21 November 2013

The days just march by, don't they?  This was day 325 in 2013, only 40 more to go!

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 190: 1874 Marriage Certificate of Frank Seaver and Hattie Hildreth.

*  Worked on Puzzilla.org, and wrote Checking Out Puzzilla - a Descendant Viewer Using FamilySearch Family Tree.  Set it for later in the morning.  I like it!

*  Left at 10:40 a.m. for the Rohr Engineers lunch at Sunset at the Park, only about 12 this time.  Good to see folks, and my friend John wants to work on his genealogy!  Had a Cobb salad.

*  Home at 12:50 p.m. for the 1 p.m. HOA with Pat and Russ about collaboration in Ancestry Member Trees. It's on YouTube!

*  Answered some email, then researched and wrote Transferring Media Files Between Software Programs - Post 4: RootsMagic GEDCOM Imported to an Ancestry Member Tree.  No surprise there, but I'd forgotten that GEDCOM files don't put media in an AMT.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to read the paper, watch TV news and eat dinner.  We took a meal to Nellie and went to Coldstone for ice cream.  Blew my diet big today!

*  Home by 6:20 p.m., watched TV news, and online at 7 p.m.  Answered email, then watched Pat and Russ's HOA on how to share an AMT.  Checked Facebook and Google+.

*  Started in on MyHeritage Find A Grave record matches at 8:30 p.m., and confirmed about 20 of them, adding content and sources.  Over 46,815 sources now.

*  Added to the Best Of post and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to empty and replace the piggies litter, fed them, and watched TV, read the paper and we had dinner.  Got the trash put out.

*  Online at 6 p.m. to read, answer email, and then worked in FTM for awhile, adding more info to John's tree, added another set of families.  Made a pedigree chart and ancestor report.

*  Worked in the database, adding content and sources for the Ea to Ec surnames.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 18 November 2013

Only five more weeks until Christmas!  Yikes!  Only two more weeks until Linda's birthday.  double yikes!  Christmas letter and cards too - the season gets busy.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 195: Deed by John Phillips to Daniel Bixby in 1758 for Land in Shrewsbury, Mass. posted.  Checked in on the Mondays With Myrt HOA.

*  Left at 9:15 a.m. for my OASIS class, got there by 9:40 and was ready to go at 10.  Only 8 of the original 14 attended, so it was pretty easy going.  Left at 12:30 for home and was home by 1:05 and ate lunch.

My Genealogy Weekend - 16 and 17 November 2013

Well, this was a fun weekend but not a big genealogy weekend for me.

1)  Saturday, 16 November 2013:

*  Read email but not blogs, and went off at 7:45 a.m. for the Men's Bible Study breakfast at Marie Callenders.  I left early at 9 a.m. so we could get on the road.

*  We left at 9:20 a.m., I dropped Linda in Huntington Beach at 11:15 and made it to Whittier by 11:55.  Gave my talk there and got back to HB at 3:50 p.m.  Had fun with the grandgirls, we had dinner at the pier in HB and we were home by 9:25 p.m.  I watched the second half of the Aztecs-Rainbow Warriors game, we won 28-21 in overtime.  Read email and blogs while at my daughters and at the restaurant.  We brought the two guinea pigs home with us for a vacation.

*  Checked Facebook, noted that Surname Saturday - LNU (England?) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Show Us Your Visited States and Provinces Map posted.  Went to bed!

Genealogy this day was about 3 hours.

2)  Sunday, 17 November 2013:

*  Read email and blogs, and finished up the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 10 to 16 November 2013 post.  We went off to church at 9:40 a.m. and were home by 11:40 a.m.  I was tired and sleepy, ate lunch and fed the piggies, and watched football.

*  Woke up from my short nap and watched the Chargers game against Miami.  We lost 20-16.  Drat, now 4-6 and playoff hope is lost.

*  Was online at 4:30 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and answer email.  Went in for dinner at 5:30 p.m. to watch football, and eat dinner.  We took food to a friend at 6, stopped at the ice cream store and were home by 6:30 p.m.

*  Online again to read, then wrote two posts for Monday morning while i'm at OASIS.  Answered more email and worked in RootsMagic and FTM 2014 looking at media.  Wrote this post.

My Genealogy Friday - 15 November 2013

My genealogy day was interrupted by two tasks, but not for long.  Except for the eye dilation part!

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Randy's Saturday Roadtrip - Whittier Area Genealogical Society posted, and wrote Follow-Up Friday - Helpful and Interesting Reader Comments From the Past Week.

*  Left at 9:45 a.m. for my eye doctor appointment.  Got vision tested, dilated, glaucoma tested, and bright light tested, got the same glasses prescription as last year, and a dark inlay to shield my eyes from bright lights.  Stopped at the pharmacy and bank, and home at 11 a.m.  Ate lunch.

*  Back online at 11:30 a.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and worked on the George Allen problem some more.  Checked WeRelate and the Great Migration books, and added info to the WikiTree profile.  Got interested in royals on Geni and found several lines relating me to royalty.  Saved them - future posts?  Took the hat that Lucas left here to the post office.

My Genealogy Thursday - 14 November 2013

Well, we had some car trouble today.  Hadn't happened for two years or more.  Shop couldn't fix it - it went away.  That's the worst kind of car trouble!  Disrupted my genealogy work a bit!

* Read email and blogs, and wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 189: Obituary for Alma Bessie (Richmond) Seaver (1882-1962)

*  Linda came home and said the car was jerking, so I took it down to Don's, told them the history, and got a ride home.

*  Back to work - wrote Finding John's Other Grandmother, R.A. (--?--) Collins in Online Resources.

*  Modified the OASIS presentations and handouts, and saved them to Dropbox and the flash drive.

*  Worked a bit on the George Allen of Sandwich problem in WikiTree, then found the Sandwich VR book on AmericanAncestors and went thorugh it for Allens and several other families and added page citations to events.

*  The car shop called, and Linda took me down to Dons and I picked up the car.  The jerkiness didn't occur while they had it.  Transmission or throttle control or something else.  Need the dealer to figure it out.

*  Home by 3 p.m. to read, then added some sources to several Seaver families from census records.  Researched and wrote Dear TGF: How Should Our Library Digitize and Organize Collected Family Records?

*  Went in at 5 p.m. for dinner, read the paper and watched TV news.

*  Online at 6 p.m. for the APG webinar with Josh Taylor.  Multitasked during it trying to solve a Seaver problem - can't find Susan Seaver's first husband surnamed Black.  Worked on it for two hours with no results.

*  Wrote a blog post for Friday morning, then worked in FamilySearch in Vermont VR cards adding content and sources for several Buck families already in the database.  Got sources up to 46645.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 13 November 2013

This was a very typical genealogy Wednesday - blogging, CVGS meeting, research.  Cool.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 282: CVGS Visit to San Diego FamilySearch Center and CGSSD Meeting on Saturday, 16 November Features Hal Horrocks and set it for late morning, and What Should Genealogical Societies Offer? My 11 Suggestions and set it form id=afternoon.

*  Gathered up the laptop and tablet and off to McDonald's for lunch and the library for the CVGS Research Group.  Got set up in the conference room, and spent the first hour challenging the group to come up with ideas for solving the Louis Powell and Ethel problems.  They did pretty well as a group!  In the second hour, they discussed their problems and successes.  The power went out for about 30 minutes and we kept going by smartphone flashlights!

*  Home by 2:30 p.m. to read, then worked on John's tree some more.  Figured out who his grandmother was - the CVGS group suggested R first names!  It was Ruby.  Found her parents and one set of grandparents too.  Added all of that to the FTM 2014 database.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, eat dinner, and do the dishes.  Transferred photos to Dropbox and deleted a bunch from the phone stream.  Went to the desktop at 7 p.m. to add photos to the Pictures files, and posted several of the grandgirls on Facebook.

*  Worked in the database to add content and sources to the E surnames.  Got into the Eatons.  Found several maiden names for females, several obituaries that I transcribed, etc.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

Tuesday, November 12, 2013

My Genealogy Day - 12 November 2013

Tuesday was another pretty full genealogy day, filled with some different tasks and challenges.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tuesday's Tip - Check Out the Guild of One-Name Studies Site and worked on Geni.com Says Actress Sally Field is My 9th Cousin. Should I Believe it? for the rest of the morning.

*  Had some WikiTree folsk to merge, and found the George Allen profile really messed up.  Wrote some public notes, and had some responses.  looks like some of us will work on it together to get it straightened out.  Cool.

*  Found the Rhode Island church records in Arnold's RI VR book - downloaded several volumes from Diane's website, added content and sources from Volume 7 to my database, and then wrote FREE Rhode Island Resources at Diane Boumenot's Website.  Lots more to do here!  This solves most of my R.I. source problems!

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, ate dinner, and did the dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and worked in the database adding contents and sources.  Got through the D surnames, then did 31 MyHeritage record matches in Find A Grave, adding content and sources.  Sources up to 46446.

My Genealogy Sunday and Monday - 10-11 November 2013

Sunday was pretty much a genealogy wipeout, but Monday was all-genealogy, almost all day!

1)  Sunday, 10 November:

*  Read email and blogs and got Best of the Genea-Blogs - 3 to 9 November 2013 ready to post after noon.

*  Off to church at 9:30 a.m., talked to John a bit, and home by 11:30 to watch football.  spent an hour online reading and worked a bit on John's tree in FTM 2014.

*  Went in at 1:15 p.m. to watch the Chargers/Broncos game, and disappointed by the poor first half, and the loss 28-20.  We had a chance...  Then dinner, and water the front plants.

*  Online at 6 p.m. to read, then worked on John's tree some more, and wrote two blog posts for Monday.  Didn't do a thing in my tree at all...  Genealogy this day was 5.0 hours.

2)  Monday, 11 November (Veterans Day):

*  Read email and blogs, then joined the Mondays with Myrt early, and stayed here until almost 11 a.m., with a time out to get dressed before 9 and to help Linda with the groceries after 10:15.  Had two long segments for the OASIS class and the Crowdsourcing fun.

*  Noted that Veterans Day 2013 - My Heroes and Amanuensis Monday - Post 194: Will of Philip Jacob King (1764-1829) of York, Pennsylvania posted.

*  Researched and then wrote Creating an Honor Wall Page on Fold3.com.

*  Worked on John's tree for several hours, adding Fact Notes for census and Find A Grave items.  also added more family members of folks, all using WebSearch in FTM 2014.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:15 p.m., read the paper, and did the dishes.

*  Online at 6 p.m. to read, then did more in John's tree before I worked on my tree, adding content and sources from almost every website with data!  Got through the DU names, only the DW names to go to finish the Ds.  Up to 46256 sources.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post and wrote this post.  Genealogy this day was 12.5 hours.

My Genealogy Saturday - 9 November 2013

Saturday night.  I'm watching the Aztecs game, currently 30-27 San Jose over SDSU.  We'll see if we can pull this out.  Tomorrow is the Chargers game against Denver.  Not much hope for the blue and gold there!

*  Read email and blogs, and noted that Surname Saturday - BROWN (England > colonial Rhode Island) posted.  Did a little work in John's tree.

*  Left at 9 a.m. for the SDGS meeting at 10 with Jean Hibben speaking.  Home by 1 p.m..

*  Read, noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - This Week's Genealogy Highlight posted, and went to work on John's tree again.  Added more family and sources and events using FTM 2014.  Talked to John on the phone and he'll try to call his cousin to see what his grandmother's name was.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch football, read the paper, and eat dinner.  Online at 6:15 p.m. to work on John's tree some more.

*  Went in at 7:45 p.m. to watch the Aztecs game.  Read email and blogs at halftime.  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Aztecs just won 34-30 at 11:18 p.m.  Great!

My Genealogy Friday - 8 November 2013

Less than four weeks until my wife's birthday - now what should I get her?  I guess I'll have to ponder that, because I don't think she wants another family tree chart or to learn that her second great-grandmother was a slut.  I'm planning on a DNA test for Christmas!

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Follow-Up Friday - Helpful and Interesting Reader Comments From the Past Week.

*  Edited the CVGS newsletter one more time, made a black/white copy, printed it off, printed off the mailing labels, and all set to publish.

*  Wrote National Genealogy Society Hall of Fame Call for Nominations and set it for early afternoon.

*  Worked at finding John's paternal ancestor line, and Ethel's line too in records on Ancestry, Find A Grave and FamilySearch.  Saved a bunch of them in John's client file.

*  Went to the UPS Store to publish the CVGS newsletter, and home by 2:30 p.m.

*  Researched more and wrote Finding Ethel - Post 2: Ethel Found. Who Were Her Parents? and then went in at 5:15 p.m. to fill the bird feeder, water the front plants, read the paper, watch TV news, and eat dinner.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to get the handout and presentation ready for next Saturday, and then started adding data to John's family tree file in FTM 2014.  That was fun adding content and sources, I still need to do more and add media, but it's getting there!  I have 10 of his 16 second-great-grandparents now, and several with another generation or two.

*  Wrote the Surname Saturday and SNGF posts for tomorrow because i'll be away most of the morning.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  genealogy today was 12.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 7 November 2013

I'm having all sorts of fun experiences this week - today I used FTM 2014 to create a tree using WebSearch.  First time to do that for any length of time.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 188: Alma Bessie Richmond 1882 Birth Registration and then researched and wrote Over 5,000 Databases Added to Mocavo in Past 5 Days, and Dataset Title Search Tool and set it for noontime.

*  Decided to make friend John's tree using FTM 2014.  Started with Russ's creation and edited data, added persons, searched Ancestry using WebSearch and managed to add quite a few persons and families for the Powell line.  Sources and media attached too.  Several good AMTs led the way, and then I added records by searching and merging into the FTM tree.

*  Decided to stop at 4 p.m. and researched and wrote Finding Ethel - Post 1: Candidate Search, but had to eat dinner and came back and finished it after 6 p.m.

*  Worked on the CVGS newsletter and got it done - needs an edit on Friday, printing  and publishing at the UPS Store.

*  Started working in the database, found some Lincoln data, and added it, and then had to fix the end generation and add several more, then added the line down to President Abraham.  The grandgirls are 8th cousins 6 times removed.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 1.5 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 6 November 2013

It started out a really bad day with the Ancestry.com problem, but got a whole lot better after 10:30 a.m.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 281: Poodle Skirts, Leather Jacket, Coonskin Cap, Hair and then SDGS Meeting on Saturday, 9 November Features Jean Wilcox Hibben and set it for later in the morning.

*  Still had the Ancestry problem, and tried the laptop, and it did too!  Checked again at 10:30 a.m. and there was no problem and a new looking Ancestry home page...were they updating the home page and had a problem?  Did nobody else see it, or was I the beta tester?  I dunno!

*  Left at 11 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds, then to the library to sit in with John for awhile, got a new book, and went to the CVGS Board meeting.

*  Home by 2:30 p.m. to read, write Janet Hovorka Announces New Activity Book Series for Youth and then wrote Whew - Ancestry.com is Working Well For Me Again!

*  Worked a bit on John's online tree, but decided to grow my own in FTM 2014.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. for dinner, watched TV news, put out the trash and washed the dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, then worked on the CVGS newsletter for an hour.  got it 65% done.

*  Worked in the database adding content and sources, almost done with the Ds - down to Dudley now.  Sources count is 46116.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.5 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 5 November 2013

I had pretty much an all genealogy day today, including adding content and sources to the database.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tombstone Tuesday - Philip Jacob King (1764-1829) in Prospect Hill Cemetery, York, Pennsylvania and then transcribed and wrote Crowdsourcing Results: Louis B. Powell Death Notice and Obituary and set it for late morning.

*  Did more research on the Louis Powell family.  Transcribed the six page probate record for Philip Jacob king of York, Pennsylvania.  Looked on FamilySearch for other King and Spangler probates, and found some in the index, but couldn't find one that should be there - it's in the index but not in the volume where it should be.

*  Frustrated by the Ancestry image problem so I wrote Who Messed Up my Original Image "Interactive View" on Ancestry.com???  Found I could see them easily using WebSearch.

*  Talked to John on the phone about his grandfather and promised to send him the three newspaper articles.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, eat dinner and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, answer some email, write John an email, and do some image searching on the Mass Town and VR records collection.  Found some, but not as many as I need.

*  Used MyHeritage Record Matches in Find A Grave to add sources and content to the database.  Down to 980 matches pending.  Now have 46,117 sources.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook and wrote this post.  genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 1 November 2013

A new month, and not much genealogy work done today,

*  Read emails and blogs, noted that Follow-up Friday -- Helpful and Interesting Reader Comments posted, and researched and wrote Free GenealogyBank eBook on "How to Search Obituaries to Find Ancestors and Trace Your Family Tree" and set it for later in the morning.

*  We left at 11 a.m. for Carlsbad to meet Tami and the grandgirls, ate lunch at Ruby's at the outlet mall, and were home by 2 p.m.  Got the girls situated watching TV, and Lauren on the laptop, and managed to get a 20 minute nap.  I read email and blogs, and added to the Best Of post, but not much else.

*  We went to dinner at El Pollo Loco in National City, and home by 7 p.m.  The girls read books, watched TV, Lolo read on the computer about Terraria (but I couldn't get it to work), and they went to their rooms after 9 p.m. to read.

*  Managed to find time to write the two Saturday posts through all of this, and check Facebook, ...and I'm sleepy.  We may go to the Wild Animal Park on Saturday.

Genealogy today was 5.0 hours.
