Genea-Journal - Monday, 31 August 2020

Ten days later -- Lori and her family (2 teen boys, 4 computers, 3 cats and a fish) are here evacuated from the Santa Cruz fire.  The highlight has been the 11 week old kitten named Mister Rex who is an athletic little guy - lots of running and jumping and chasing, then sit in a lap and purr.

Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday -- 1735 Bond and Order Distributing Estate of John Fisher (1677-1727) of Medfield, Mass. posted, and got into Mondays With Myrt.  Highlighted my 5 September webinar for OCCGS.

*  Finished reading blogs, had lunch, wrote Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 31 August 2020 and checked Twitter and Facebook.  Added to the Best Of post.  Wrote 35,230 AncestryDNA Matches Are Gone!  Reviewed AncestryDNA and MyHeritageDNA matches.

*  Went in and ran the vacuum while they were of to Barbara's pool to swim.  Linda, Lori and the boys have gone about every other day recently.  Watched TV news, then watched the Padres game, read the paper, finished my ebook, checked email, blogs and Facebook, and wrote Tombstone post during the game.  Padres won 6-0 over Rockies, so now 22-15 on the season.

*  Online at 9:45 p.m. to write this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

Genea-Journal - Friday, 21 August 2020

Another warm day, and muggy now due to the tropical storm offshore.  Only slept 5 hours last night so grumpy.  The fire in Santa Cruz did not threaten Lori's home today, we'll see what happens.  They are coming here on Saturday.  Life, and genealogy, will change some.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, checked the fire maps, and noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 344: #554 John Fisher (1677-1727) of Medfield, Massachusetts posted.

*  Went to the grocery store and home by 11 a.m.  Wrote New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 21 August 2020 and took a good nap.

*  Had lunch, and wrote Genealogy News Bytes - Friday, 21 August 2020.  Checked Twitter and Facebook.  Talked to Lori on the phone.  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts.  Checked AncestryDNA matches (+35).

*  Went in at 5:30 to get dinner ready, watched TV news, and then the Padres game.  Read the paper, checked email, blogs, Facebook and Twitter, then read my ebook until the laptop ran of juice.  Padres won 4-3 over Astros so now 16-12 on the season and won 5 in a row.  Back in 2nd place.

*  Checked email and blogs, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

Genea-Journal - Thursday, 20 August 2020

Still no good news on the fire in Santa Cruz front - it is getting closer to Lori's neighborhood.  Been teary at times thinking about the 20 years in that house - she was married on the property by a redwood tree that is her special place.

*  Read email and blogs but it took awhile because Lori called and we talked for 30 minutes, then I checked on the fire progress.  Noted that Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1686 Birth of Abigail Smith in Medfield, Massachusetts posted.

*  Worked on the Probate Records talk that I'm giving on 5 September for Orange County via Zoom.  Got everything updated, and added a section.  Added to the Best Of post.  Checked the AncestryDNA matches (+29).

*  Had lunch, checked on fires, and eventually wrote Seavers in The News - Dolores (Adams) Seaver (1862-1941) Dies in Massachusetts.

*  Checked Facebook and Twitter, checked on fires, and wrote the 52 Ancestors post.  Created a Zoom account for CVGS.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to fix dinner, then watched the Padres game.  Read the paper, watered the front plants, washed dishes, read my ebook, and checked email, blogs, Facebook and Twitter for fire info.  Padres won 8-7 over Rangers in 10 innings, so now won 4 straight, and 15-12 on the season.

*  Online at 9:30 p.m. to check email and blogs, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.

Genea-Journal - Wednesday, 19 August 2020

Genealogy took a back seat to fire coverage today.  Daughter Lori evacuated with her kids and pets last night from her home in the Santa Cruz mountains to a friend's house in Monterey.  The big fires in Santa Cruz County burned east up the mountains and threatens the San Lorenzo Valley where she lives.  The winds blew it southeast most of the day but shifted to the north tonight which slowed the progress.  There is no containment and no air support due to the smoke clouds.  Time will tell how this comes out - worst case is she loses her home and jobs and comes to live with us.  It is impossible to get up-to-date info anywhere for the location of active fires.

*  After an hour on the phone trying to get info on the fire to her, I quickly read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, and noted that Linda and Her Girls in About 1989 -- Post 631 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted.  Prepped for the CVGS Zoom meeting and had lunch.  Started the laundry.  Checked AncestryDNA (+9) and one new common ancestor match.

*  Opened the Zoom room for the CVGS DNA Interest Group meeting and we had 14 in attendance.  No one in the group is doing much with DNA matches.

*  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote Dear Randy: "How Can I Find Living Descendants with the Surname of a Historical Person?"  Checked Twitter and Facebook for fire news.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. for dinner, watched TV, put out the trash, finished the laundry, and watched the Padres game.  Read the paper, then my book, washed dishes,  then on the laptop for email, blogs, Facebook, and Twitter. Resolved 131 Ancestry Hints.   Padres won 6-3 over Rangers on a grand slam in the 10th inning, so now 14-12 and won 3 straight with grand slams.

*  Online at 9:45 p.m. to read, then wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday -- 1703 Inventory of the Estate of Joseph Clark (1642-1702) of Medfield, Mass. posted, and got into Mondays With Myrt.  Contributed little.

Genea-Journal - Sunday, 9 August 2020

We went to church today so that threw a wrench into my usual Sunday schedule.  And the Padres won, so it was a pretty good day.

*  Read email and blogs, but we left for church at 9:10 a.m. and the service was outside in the patio between the two buildings. Everyone wore masks and tried to stay 6 feet apart.  It was sunny but with shade trees above.  It was both modern and classical church music, and a good sermon by pastor Tracey.  She leaves after next Sunday.

*  Home by 10:45 to read, then transcribed the document and wrote the Amanuensis Monday post.

*  Went in at 12:30 for lunch, then watched the Padres game, read the paper, dozed in the recliner for awhile.  Padres got ahead 9-0 in the first 3 innings and coasted to a 9-5 win.  Now 9-7 on the season and off to LA for 4 games this next week.

Genea-Journal - Thursday, 6 August 2020

I feel like I managed my day poorly.  There was no Padres game tonight and I figured that I could write 3 blog posts today, plus do the Friday 52 Ancestors, resolve hundreds of Hints, and get about 50% of the CVGS Newsletter done.  I did 2 blog posts and the 52 Ancestors post, and now I'm behind schedule on CVGS.  OTOH, they don't pay me to do it so if it's a day late, so be it, I guess!

*  Went in at 5 p.m. for dinner, watched TV, read the paper, did the dishes.  Took Linda for a walk for the first time in two weeks.

*  Worked on the 52 Ancestors post, downloaded the father's probate file, and wrote up a summary.  Lori called and we did a Duo call too - she showed off my new grand-kitty.  Finished that, and checked blogs and Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

*  Went in at 5:15 to finish dinner, watched TV news, washed dishes, and trimmed the rose bushes.

*  Online at 6:50 p.m. to read, resolve 346 Ancestry Hints, and then TreeShared 91 profiles to the AMT.  Matched a bunch of FamilySearch Family Tree profiles.

Genea-Journal - Saturday, 1 August 2020

Only 5 months left in 2020, and I think they will all be spent in isolation.  Slept OK last night, but the nap helps.  A warmer day - maybe 85F here, but with some clouds.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post and noted that Added and Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 25 to 31 July 2020 posted.  Checked the AncestryDNA matches (+13) plus one new ThruLine.

*  Answered email, sent off stuff to societies, and noted that Added and Updated Ancestry.com Record Collections - Week of 25 to 31 July 2020 posted.  Wrote the SNGF post.  Had lunch.

*  Got into the SDGS webinar at noon, and watched until 2.  Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Did You or Your Children Know Their Great-Grandparents? posted.  Took my nap.

*  Online at 3 p.m. to add to the Best Of post, check Twitter and Facebook, and resolved some Ancestry Hints adding content and sources.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to fix dinner, watched the Padres game, read the paper, washed dishes, watered the front plants, and read another chapter of my book.  Padres lost 6-1 to Rockies, first "bad" game of the year, so now 6-3 on the season.

*  Online at 8 p.m. to add to the Best Of post, resolved more Ancestry Hints, and TreeShared 117 profiles.

*  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.
