My genealogy day - 30 June 2011

It was another full genealogy day, and there was no Padres game.  good thing - I got some things done.

*  Read email and blogs, found that Blogger was working, and wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - My Grandparents Church Marriage Certificate.  Quickly wrote New Mocavo.com Major Features, made a GEDCOM file and tried out the tree upload.  Failed, so emailed Cliff and they had it fixed in an hour or so.

*  Started in researching my FGS FORUM column due today.  Got it pretty much done after lunch.  Went off to the store for my prescription, bananas and ribs.  Strange diet, eh?

*  Back by 2 p.m. to read, then wrote Uploading My Tree to Mocavo.com.  Worked sme more on the article.  Answered some email.  Added some Find-a-Grave burials with sources to my database for Seaver folks.

*  went in at 5 p.m. to read the paper, watch TV, and we ate dinner (ribs and peas, yum!).

*  Back online at 6:30 p.m. to read, then wrote CVGS Program Summary - "Migration Patterns" by Susi Pentico .  Wrote letter to my pastor.  Checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

June stats for Genea-Musings are 16,027 visits, 27,114 page views, 739 feeds via Feedburner, and 972 Google Reader feeds.

My genealogy day - 29 June 2011

It was a very full genealogy day, but I'm not sure that I made much progress on any project.

*  Read email and blogs, had trouble with Blogger uploading images, finally wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 159: Airplanes over Coronado and then found my 1940 census places and wrote  Using the 1940 Census ED Finding Tool and set it for later in the morning.

*  Gathered my stuff and off to the library for the CVGS meeting at 12 noon.  Susi presented Migration Patterns.

*  Home by 2:45 p.m. to read, corrected the 1940 Census post, checked Facebook, then wrote Adding Photographs to my MyHeritage Family Tree - Post 2.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, take a nap, eat dinner, and put out the trash.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, worked on updating the Newton data for the Maine family, checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Blogger went down in the middle of it and didn't post.  Arggh.

Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My genealogy days - 27 and 28 June 2011

Two more fairly full genealogy days, with some progress made on several projects.

1)  Monday, 27 June 2011

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Amanuensis Monday - Elisha Ward's Affidavit in Thomas Dill's Revolutionary War Pension File and then Answers to my Questions about MyHeritage Trees but set it for later.

*  Worked on the third OASIS class presentation and syllabus.  Decided to add the Remley data to my master database, since it was done for my aunt's husband's family and is part of my extended tree.  Big mistake - found out after doing it that the place names are really messed up and many sources are for a WFT database.  Arrgghhhhh.  Worked through lunch and into the afternoon to straighten that out by deleting the WFT source, deleting the WFT dates, and trying to standardize place names.  Had to combine many entries with different place spellings.  Not done - still have several families to do.

*  Wrote Pruning My Family Tree - Catherine Lewis after doing a bit more searching.  I need to look for the Jonathan Lewis will.  Added photos to MyHeritage using the multiple file upload.

*  We left at 5 p.m. for El Pollo Loco for dinner,  then to the trolley station to go to the Padres game.  Got to my seat at 6:05 p.m., and talked to the ushers.  Padres won 4-3 over the KC Royals.  We were home by 10:45 p.m.

*  Read email and blogs, checked Facebook and off to bed by 11:30.

Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

2)  Tuesday, 28 June 2011:

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Tuesday's Tip - Use the Google Site Search to Find Results on a Specific Website and then worked on tagging photos to MyHeritage.  Failed.  Uploaded photos one at a time from the Family Tree tab.  Wrote Adding Photographs to my MyHeritage Family Tree - Post 1.

*  Answered some email, then finished up the Remley data in the database.  I probably have some unresolved places, but I'll find them.

*  Wrote The Seasons of my Genealogy Research and then finished up the fourth OASIS class presentation and syllabus.

*  Checked Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org for new databases, and then added about 15 census source citations to my database.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, and eat dinner.  Back online at 6 p.m. to read, play with Google+ a bit, and write What Will the Google+ Project Mean for Genealogy?

*  Went in at 7 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read my book, and water the front plants.  Padres won 4-2 over KC Royals (now 36-45 at the halfway point in the season.  They seem to be improving, won 6 of the last 7, but still in last place the NL Worst.

*  Online at 9:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and write 1940 Census Searching Tools Announced.  Works great!!!  Wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My genealogy day - 26 June 2011

It turned into a major genealogy day in the afternoon.

*  Read email and blog, and got the Best Of post finished up before going off to church at 9:30 a.m.  After church, there was a picnic for the kids and parents from VBS - Linda worked on it so we went and had hamburgers and chips and cookies.  I talked genealogy with Dahlia.

*  Home by 12:40 p.m. and I immediately jumped into the Scanfest.  Got 35 images scanned from the Pentecost photo album, including all of the Auble pictures of my families.  Didn't chat a whole lot.  Noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 19 to 25 June 2011 posted.

*  Went in to watch the Padres game, read the paper and take my nap.  Padres won 4-1 with 4 runs in the 8th over Atlanta.  Watered the back yard too.

*  Back online to write CVGS Program Meeting on 29 June - Susi Pentico on "Migration Patterns" and then answered some emails.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to have dinner, then watched TV news.

*  Back online at 6:15 p.m., read everything, and corrected data errors in my database found through Family Tree Builder's error finder (provided by MyHeritage).  Got about 200 looked at and some corrected, plus added some source citations to data found while doing that.  Linda called several cousins tonight and I listened to some of it - even got some family data from one of them.

*  Started the next Best Of post, checked Facebook and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

My genealogy days - 24 and 25 June 2011

Real life intervened these days to a great extent, as did the Padres!

Friday, 24 June 2011:

*  Read email and blogs, and noticed that 1940 U.S. Census RFI Q&A posted the night before I intended.  Operator error!

*  We left at 9:15 a.m. for Mimi's memorial service at Glen Abbey.  It was quite nice out on the lawn for the graveside memorial.  Some friends from church, and lots of Lynda's family.  Then to Spring Valley for a nice reception.  Got to meet Brooks, Mimi's grandson, who plays for the Atlanta Braves.  What a beautiful family all together to celebrate Mimi's 93 years.

*  Home by 2 p.m. to recuperate - read everything, and noted that Genealogy Database Statistics Galore in MyHeritage posted.  Went in to read the paper and napped a bit.

*  We left at 4:45 p.m. for the trolley to go to the Padres game with Lynda and family.  She had 50 tickets.  Ate dinner at the Tin Fish and were to our seats in 317 by 6:15 p.m.  Visited with friends and Lynda's family all through the game - the Pads won 11-2, and Brooks was up once and lined out to first base.

*  Home by 19:45 p.m. on the bus and trolley, read some and went to bed.

Genealogy on Friday was 3.0 hours at most.

Saturday, 25 June 2011:

*  Up early to go to the Dolphin breakfast at the Denny's on E Street.  I liked it (heck, I like almost every place to eat breakfast).

*  Home by 8:45 a.m. to read email and blogs, wrote Surname Saturday - LEWIS (England > RI > NY > Canada) and in the process discovered the will that nearly proves the Catherine Lewis relationship.  Cool when that happens!

*  Wrote Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Number #1 Songs for SNGF, and set it for after noon.  Wrote one more blog post for next week if I need one.

*  Went in at 1:30 p.m. to watch tennis and baseball, read the paper, and took a nap.  Up at 3p.m. to read online, do some research for elusives and orphans.

*  We left at 4 p.m. for the trolley station to go to the Padres game.  stopped at Panera for dinner and took it with us.  Got to :Petco just as game started due to trolley repairs.  Pads lost 10-1 to the Braves.  Brooks struck out in pinch-hitting appearance.

*  Home on bus and trolley by 9:30 p.m., read everything, updated the Best Of post, checked Facebook and wrote this post.

Genealogy on Saturday was 5.0 hours.

Thursday, June 23, 2011

My genealogy day - 23 June 2011

Another full genealogy day, this time without a Padres game.  I'll make up for it on the weekend.

*  Read email and blogs, transcribed and posted Treasure Chest Thursday - Georgianna (Kemp) Auble's Death Certificate.

*  Made reservations for airline, rental car, and hotel for FGS Conference.  Registered for FGS Conference too, but need to go reserve dinner tickets.  Now need to work out the rest of the trip to IL, IN, MI, and WI.  Had lunch at home.

*  Researched and wrote Connecting to Other Researchers through MyHeritage.com.  Edited the first two OASIS Class presentations and syllabus material to reflect changes over last five months.  Not many!

*  Wrote Remember to Register for FGS 2011 before 1 July and tried to get AncestorSync to work again.  downloaded new version, but didn't work.

*  Went in at 4:30 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, take a nap, talk to my daughter, and eat dinner.

*  Back online at 6 p.m. to read, answered some emails, checked Facebook, and wrote a MyHeritage post for Friday.  Email from Joel about 1940, and wrote another post and it posted accidentally...oh well.  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Just a blogging fool today!

Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

My genealogy day - 22 June 2011

It was a pretty full genealogy day...I got quite a bit done.

*  Read email and blogs, and posted (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 158: Rockwell Field Aircraft Shops in 1932.  Wrote Dear Randy: How Best to Download Ancestry.com Images to RootsMagic? and set it for later.  Got cleaned up.

*  Worked in the database a bit adding census sources.  Answered several emails.  Left at 11:30 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds then to the library for new books to read.  Home by 12:45 p.m.

*  Wrote More Thoughts on "Scientific" and "Traditional" Genealogy and then worked in MyHeritage for awhile and posted Finding Common Ancestors in the MyHeritage Family Tree.

*  My Padres beat the Red Sox 5-1 in a 7.5 inning game with four rain delays.  Went out and cut the front lawn to celebrate.  Fertilized and watered it too.  Had dinner watching TV news.

*  Back online at 6:30 p.m. to read, upload pictures to the computer, and send cemetery pix to Marna.  Answered several Seaver emails that were aging.  Checked Facebook too.

*  Back into the database to add census sources, and played with GenealogyBank looking for Auble and Carringer articles for the database.  Found quite a few Carringer articles in Idaho newspapers.

*  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

My genealogy day - 21 June 2011

It was another full day of genealogy excitement here at the Genealogy Cave...and my Padres finally won another game!

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tamura Jones Guest Post: Scientific and Traditional Genealogy and Tuesday's Tip - Use the Google News Archive Search (and set it for before noon).  Added data to database from email.  Got cleaned up.

*  Edited the Wikis for Genealogy presentation some more, and made a two page syllabus.  Had lunch.

*  Decided to work in MyHeritage smart matches since I was getting so many emails.  Yikes!  over 198,000 of them.  Deleted my two old trees on MyHeritage so that my desktop database will sync with the MyHeritage database.  Captured some screens from the Smart Matches, and wrote Smart Matching in MyHeritage.   Finished off the requested matches (only about 300 total) - sure gets boring!

*  Answered some emails, added some data to the RootsMagic database, then went in to watch the Padres game at 4:10 p.m.  Read the paper, then Family Tree Magazine, ate dinner, and the Pads won 5-4 over the RedSox in Boston (broke 6 game losing streak...now 31-44).

*  Back online at 8 p.m. to read, answer some email, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, and write this post.

Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My genealogy day - 20 June 2011

Stayed home for a genealogy day today - a pretty good one!

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Amanuensis Monday - True Mortimer Seaver's Funeral Difficulties.  Wrote SNGF Most Recent Unknown Ancestor Compendium too, and set it for late morning.  Got cleaned up.

*  Added WikiTree charts to my Wikis for Genealogy presentation, and edited the works.  Need critical review and syllabus, but getting close to finished.  Had lunch.

*  Read everything, then wrote Thoughts on Classical and Scientific Genealogy.

*  Checked Facebook, set AncestorSync off again (it failed to save after 10 hours...) and added the Bloetgoet info from the New Netherland connections articles to the database.

*  Went in at 4:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, water the front plants, and eat dinner.  Pads lost 14-5 but it was 3-3 in the 7th.  Meltdown.

*  Back online at 8 p.m. to read, add some census sources to the database (and fix notes too), add to the Best Of post, and write this post.

Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My genealogy day - 19 June 2011

Not too much of a genealogy day - a little blogging, some searching, some database work, some email.

*  Read email and blogs, got the Best Of post ready to go before going off to church at 9:30.

*  We had a meeting at church, then shopping and lunch at Costco, so home by 1:15 p.m. just in time to see my Padres lose in the 9th to the Twins.  5 straight losses, now 30-43.

*  Got the Best of the Genea-blogs posted, and tweeted, and went in to watch golf and take a nap.  My daughter called, and then watched TV for awhile.

*  Came online at 3:30 p.m. to post Jamboree Geneabloggers - MyHeritage Free PremiumPlus Membership is Valid until 20 June.   Checked Facebook, answered some emails, and worked a bit more in MyHeritage and Family Tree Builder.

*  Called for dinner at 5:30 p.m., then watched TV and read the paper until 6:30 p.m.

*  Back online to read, and worked in the database adding marriage data with sources from Montana and Idaho from FamilySearch.  Looked for some of Maggie's ancestors too.  Finally, worked in the Google News Archive Search for Seaver articles.  Found quite a few new ones and transcribed and sourced them.

*  Added to the Best Of post for next week, and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.

My genealogy days - 17 and 18 June 2011

I missed journaling last night because of time constraints.  And two little girls that came to visit on Friday and left tonight.  They are so cute and fun.

Friday, 17 June:

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Dear Randy: Can you explain this Genealogical Paradox?  Got cleaned up, and found the cemetery query, looked in the Glen Abbey file, found the lot number, and printed the map.

*  Stopped to get gas, at the library, then to Glen Abbey Memorial Park and found the site and took some pictures.  Even took more for the SSDCGraveyard Rabbit blog sometime soon.  Then to Costco for a Polish dog and drink for lunch.

*  Got home at noon, read, then wrote Genealogy Radio Shows and Webinars this weekend.   Tami and the girls came, and two down for naps, and Lolo went with Linda to the Y to practice swimming.  Wrote CVGS Research Group Summary - 8 June 2011  and  CVGS Computer Group Highlights - 15 June 2011 on Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog.

*  Went in to watch TV and nap, Audrey woke me up at 3:15 and we played.  Went to dinner at Rubio's and to Cold Stone for ice cream (Audrey shared mine) and were home by 7 p.m.

*  Listened to Geneabloggers Radio while giving girls a shower, got them dressed and ready for bed.  Audrey stayed awake until after 10.  Lolo passed out with Linda before 9.

*  Wrote the Surname Saturday post and SNGF post.  Added to the Best Of post.  Checked Facebook.

Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

Saturday, 18 June:

*  Up with the girls at 6:30 a.m., got them fed, dressed and played outside for awhile.  Tami up at 8:30 so that I could go off to CGSSD meeting.  Noted that Surname Saturday - PICKLE/BEUCHEL - Germany > NJ) posted.

*  Left at 8:30 for UCSD in La Jolla, got there by 9 a.m., sat in FTM class and offered wisdom.  Then welcomed Gini and Elyse, and Elyse did an excellent job on Google: More than Genealogy to the assembled throng.  Tweeted through the whole thing.

*  Home by 12:40 p.m. to eat lunch, then watched FGS Webinar with Josh Taylor of NEHGS.  Girls came home at 2 p.m., and went down for naps.  Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Who is Your Most Recent Unknown Ancestor? posted.

*  Wrote My daughter's Facebook photo.  Audrey up by 3:30, and Tami packed up and left after by 4.  Watched Padres game then we left at 4:45 for dinner at Oggi's.  Home by 6 p.m. to watch rest of the game.  Watered the back yard.  Padres lost 1-0 (now 30-42...doesn't look good for the boys).

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, worked in RootsMagic a bit adding census sources from notes.  Installed Family Tree Builder and uploaded GEDCOM to MyHeritage on one-year subscription - thanks, MyHeritage!

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post and started a SNGF compendium post, then wrote this blog post.

Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My genealogy day - 16 June 2011

I was a blogging fool today...and not much else productive, it seems.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Lyle Carringer's High School Diploma, then SCGS Jamboree 2011 Pictures - Post 3: Geneabloggers Pajama Party and Getting Started Videos on FamilySearch.org.  Had lunch.

*  Wrote Geni.com's Happy Father's Day Graphic and started in on the Wiki presentation again.  Got the WeRelate material finished - it's changed quite a bit in the last year.

*  Wrote A Neat Genealogy DNA Story: Distant Cousins Meet at Jamboree and Check Out my Wikid at WikiTree!  Worked in WikiTree a bit sorting out Notes.

*  Went in to watch TV, read the paper, take a nap, and eat dinner.

*  Back online at 7 p.m. to read, then work on Richman and Marshman lines - looking for clues in records and trees.  Pretty sparse!  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, looked in census records for more Richmond folks (without a lot of success), and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

Wednesday, June 15, 2011

My genealogy day - 15 June 2011

It was a fairly full genealogy day - blogging in the morning, the CVGS computer group meeting, more blogging in the afternoon, and searching in the evening.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 157: Kimball's Mill hands in 1888 and CGSSD Meeting on Saturday, 18 June Features Elyse Doerflinger.  Sorted out some of the photos on the extra bed - trying to isolate the ones to be scanned.  Got cleaned up.

*  Wrote SCGS Jamboree 2011 Pictures - Post 2 before going off to lunch at McDonald's and then to the library for CVGS Computer Group.

*  Help setup the projector at CVGS Computer Group, then played a bit on Ancestry during the meeting.  Showed Gary the Jambo-pix too, and the syllabus.  Checked out a book, stopped at the bank, and home at 2 p.m.

*  Worked some more in Ancestry.com trying to find unindexed databases.  Found quite a few census records that are not indexed but are OCR searchable, and put them in an Evernote document.  Wrote Some Sparsely Indexed Census Databases on Ancestry.com.  Wrote Archives.com Subscription Offer - for Father's Day!

*   Looked for Military records with unindexed and sparsely indexed records - added some to an Evernote list.  Answered some emails.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to eat dinner, then put out the trash, watched TV news, and washed the dishes.

*  Decided to check WorldConnect and Ancestry Member Trees for my 16 great-greats - what would I find if I was just starting my research?  Unfortunately, too many people have copied my stuff into databases for the project to be useful.  Was searching in Richmans in Hilperton on Ancestry Member Trees, and found some names, dates, places my database is lacking.  Added some detail data from other AMTs.  Then edited some Richman data in my database - had capital surnames, and some duplicate persons.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook and wrote this post.

Genealogy today was about 11 hours.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

My genealogy day - 14 June 2011

I think I've recovered from the weekend...now need to catch up on the talks for July!

*  Read email and blogs, worked in Genealogy In Time searches for awhile, then wrote Tuesday's Tip - the Genealogy In Time Search Engine.  Organized Jambo-pix and  wrote SCGS Jamboree 2011 Pictures - Post 1.  Got cleaned up!

*  Found my Genealogy Wiki presentation, and copied it to a new folder for the NSDCGS meeting in four weeks.  Got about 35% modified and edited.  Will work all week on this!  Had lunch at the desk.

*  Tried to duplicate the frequent error message in RootsMagic when accessing nFS, and wrote New FamilySearch Family Tree - Post 11: A Mysterious Error Message in RootsMagic 4.

*  Added lots more people to nFS using RootsMagic.  I've finally figured out a logical way to do this - one complete family at a time.  Finish one before moving on to the next.  Was able to add some parents of ancestral sibling spouses to the database for several persons.  Did some census search in Ancestry to flesh out some of the Richmond families too.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to read the paper, watch the Padres game and we ate dinner watching the game.  Almost done with my book too.  Padres lost 6-3 to Rockies.  Drat.

*  Back online at 9:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check in on Facebook and Twitter, and write this post.

Monday, June 13, 2011

My genealogy day - 13 June 2011

We're back from the SCGS Genealogy Jamboree - a good time was had by all, but the reading and blogging really suffered over the weekend.  The fun didn't stop, though.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote SNGF Pajama Party Recap, then researched and wrote Amanuensis Monday - Thomas Dill's Revolutionary War Pension Property Statement.  Got cleaned up.

*  Checked Facebook and Twitter for Jamboree pictures and notes, and wrote SCGS Jamboree - Post 4: Partings are such sweet sorrow.    Tried to get the pictures off the camera.  Installed the software, but the camera wouldn't show up on the file folders.  Finally figured out that the USB cable had slipped out of the camera receptacle.  Got all of our pictures transferred to the computer.  Lots of fuzzy ones - I need to practice with the flash timing.

*  Had lunch, then listened to the Friday night Geneabloggers Radio show.  Funny...I missed most of it at Jamboree.  Found the goodie bags and sorted out the swag.  Loaded the Jamboree syllabus onto the computer, and printed out several summaries.  Got my Geni.com Pro account set up too.

*  Wrote Internet Genealogy magazine - July 2011 Table of Contents, then checked Facebook and Twitter again.

*  Went in at 4:45 p.m. to watch the GOP debate, then the Padres game at 5:40 p.m.  We had dinner, and I watered the front plants.  Game was delayed by rain at 7:15, so I read everything, and started the next Best Of post.  Game back on at 8:45, so watched to the end - Pads won 3-1 over Rockies (now 30-38 on season, 16-12 on road, 14-26 at home).

*  Online at 10 p.m. to read, then wrote this post.

Thursday, June 9, 2011

My genealogy day - 9 June 2011

A day of blogging, and getting ready for Jamboree.  No research.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - My College Diploma and then researched and wrote First Look at GenDetective - Post 2: Navigating in GenDetective Reporter.

*  Went off to Costco to buy a camera and printer ink, took all of 30 minutes door-to-door.  No lines there.

*  Set up laptop and downloaded GenDetective to it.  Got camera out of the box and got it set up.  Had lunch.

*  Finally got GenDetective running on laptop, and learned all of the camera details.  Copied files to the flash and then to the laptop.

*  Researched and wrote Navigating Ancestry.com - Post 5: Using the Card Catalog.  Read everything, checked Facebook.  Got the laptop case squared away - emptied then filled.  Wrote a GenDetective post for friday morning.

*  Went in at 5:30 to watch TV news, eat dinner, and water the front plants.  Checked email and blogs, went in to watch the Padres game and water the back yard.

*  Took time during the game to read, add to the Best Of post and write this post.  Padres won 7-3 over Nationals.  Rizzo's first game - had a triple and two walks, got a shaving cream pie in the face afterwards.

I'm not sure if I;ll write on this blog during the weekend - will be busy at Jamboree and may write daily posts on Genea-Musings.  If you're reading this, you're probably reading there too!

Wednesday, June 8, 2011

My genealogy day - 8 June 2011

Two more days until Jamboree - yippee!  I really should go at least one day early, and maybe two just to enjoy the geneabloggers party animals.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote GenDetective is Available for Download and (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 156: Sherman Heights School Class Picture in 1903.  That's three years worth of family pictures!

*  Got cleaned up, came back to download GenDetective and try it out.  Wrote GenDetective 10-Day Trial to describe problem.

*  Made and printed handout for Cemetery Records - looked for my cemetery "stuff".  Added files to laptop.  Left at 11 a.m. for McDonald's for lunch, then to the library by 11:30 a.m.

*  Got set up for Research Group - we had 15, mix of newbies and experienced, good sharing.

*  Home by 2:15 p.m. to read, noted that SDGS Program Meeting on Saturday, 11 June features Franklin Chocco posted.  Uninstalled it, then installed it again, and it ran.  It read my 40,000 person GEDCOM (took awhile!) and then there was an error at the end of the Analyzer work, made screens, and wrote First Look at GenDetective - Post 1: GenDetective Analyzer.  Error message - perhaps too many people in the GEDCOM.

*  Answered some email, did some searches for collateral line data, entered some information into the database.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. for dinner, then watched TV news, did the dishes, and put the trash out.

*  Back online - made smaller GEDCOM file, and it loaded into GenDetective fine.  Everything worked.  Lots of Reporter reports - did a lot of reports, figured out how to navigate the program to see all potential reports, and how to create them.  Tried a 37,000 person report, and it bombed like before.  Need to find something at the 10,000, 20,000 and 30,000 person level to see how they do.

*  Added to the Best Of post, did some Facebooking, and wrote this post.

My genealogy days - 6 and 7 June 2011

Seems like all I did was blog and prepare for the Research Group the last two days.

1)  Monday, 6 June:

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Amanuensis Monday - Thomas Dill's Revolutionary War Pension Declaration and then wrote Navigating Ancestry.com - Post 4: Old Search, Advanced Form.

*  Got cleaned up, gathered the CVGS Newsletter pages and labels and off to the UPS Store to publish the June issue.  Took about 30 minutes.

*  Home by 11:15 a.m. to read, eat lunch, and write Genealogy Days in Chula Vista - June 2011 and June 2011 issue of CVGS Newsletter is online on the CV Genealogy Cafe blog.  Emailed CVGS list with newsletter.

*  Wrote Getting Ready for the SCGS Genealogy Jamboree and went in to read the paper, watch TV News and take a nap.

*  Back online at 4, answered some email, sent Wiki talk off to Pauline for NSDCGS talk in July.

*  Packed up and left at 5 p.m. for Panera Bread for dinner, the trolley station to go to Petco Park.  Got there at 6:30 p.m., Padres lost 3-0 to Rockies.

*  Home by 10:45 p.m. to read, but didn't post.

2)  Tuesday, 7 June:

*  Read email and blogs, wrote SCGS Jamboree Live Streaming Some Saturday Sessions and Tuesday's Tip - Find Historical County Boundaries with Randy Majors' Map Tool and set it for later in the morning.

*  Checked for cemetery resource articles, and found several.  worked on the presentation for CVGS Research Group, ate lunch, and back to it.  Fixed the bathroom sink again...drat.

*  Researched and wrote FamilySearch has New Research Courses and then Family Tree Magazine's Best 101 Genealogy Websites for 2011.

*  Transferred cemetery talk to flash drive, then to laptop, and ready for Research Group on Wednesday.  Telephone call about Mexican research lasted 30 minutes - interesting!

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV, eat dinner.  Back online at 6:15 p.m. to read everything, then get photos off Linda's camera.  My camera is still hosed.  Checked Facebook and Twitter.

*  Watched the Padres game, read the paper, then finished my Joe Pike book.  Pads won 2-0 over Rockies (now 28-34 on the season).  Washed the dishes.

*  Read everything, added to Best Of post, and wrote this post.

My genealogy day - 5 May 2011

A fairly typical genea-Sunday - not much blogging, and some deadlines met.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote These are Faces in my Genealogy and then finished up the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 29 May to 4 June 2011 post.

*  Off to church at 9:30 a.m., and home by 11:30 a.m.  Read everything, then started in on the CVGS Newsletter final edit.  Had lunch.  Back to work on the newsletter. Got it finished.

*  Wrote Heather Rojo has a "Face of Genealogy" Compendium and then went in to read the paper, watch baseball, take a nap, and eat dinner.

*  Online at 6 p.m. to check the newsletter one more time, save it as a PDF, and ready to print it out to take to The UPS Store on Monday.

*  Answered some email, checked Facebook, and worked in RootsMagic with New FamilySearch for awhile.  Added several more families with limited previous coverage in nFS.

My genealogy day - 4 June 2011

No genealogy research today - just meeting commitments.  And a camera problem.  Some blogging.

*  Read email and blogs before going off to the men's Bible study breakfast.  Was home by 9:30.  Noted that Surname Saturday - VAN VORST (Holland > New York) posted.

*  Wrote Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - If I Knew Then... and set it for after noon.

*  Wrestled with my Nikon Coolpix camera - got a Lens Error and can't take pictures.  Searched online for brute force fixes and found some, but they didn't work.  Now I need a new camera.  Downloaded pix on the camera to the computer.

*  Listened to the Mysociety Radio show, and chatted too, until 11:45 a.m. when I grabbed an apple and my laptop and went off to do my presentation at Bonita Library.

*  Got there at 12 noon, and waited for doors to open.  Gary got the room opened at 12:10 and we arranged the tables and chairs, then got my computer set up.  The library's projector settings were messed up, so Gary went to get the CVGS projector.  I started my talk by discussing the books I had brought, and the others on my bibliography list.  The talk had six segments, one for each New England state.  After each segment I gave a little pop quiz and encouraged a little exercise to keep the brains engaged.  Seemed to work.

*  Over at 2:40, and home by 3 p.m.  Read everything, checked in on Facebook, answered some email, and went in for a nap, watch TV and read the paper.  Back online at 4:30 p.m. to read, then took Linda to Oggi's for dinner, and Cold Stone for ice cream.

*  Home by 6:30 p.m. to watch the second half of the Padres game - we won 6-3 over Astros (now 26-33, 12-21 at home now).

*  Online at 8:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, work on the CVGS Newsletter, and write this post.

My genealogy days - 2 and 3 June 2011

Thursday - 2 June:

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Inflaming Source Citation Passions.  Got cleaned up.

*  Finished up the syllabus for the New England presentation, edited the presentation slides again, and now am ready to do it.  Two days ahead of time... pretty typical!

*  Had lunch, researched and wrote New and Updated FamilySearch Historical Collections - May 2011.

*  Worked a bit in RootsMagic and newFamilySearch trying to figure out why I'm getting errors.  Should go check the nFS Forums, I guess.

*  Went in at 3 p.m. to read the paper, take a nap and watch TV news.  We left at 4:45 p.m. for the trolley station.  Had dinner at the Tin Fish, and were in Petco Park by 6:15.  Padres lost 7-4 to Astros.

*  Home by 11 p.m. to read email, then to bed.

Friday - 3 June:

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Navigating Ancestry.com - Post 3: Old Search, Basic Form.

*  Made one more pass at the syllabus - added more detail and moved things around.  Printed off a black and white for the copy shop.  Edited the presentation again, too.  Copied all files to flash drive.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for Costco for lunch, browsed the toys and books, then picked up George at noon for our walk on the bayfront.  Last one for awhile - he's off to Greece in a week.  Stopped at library for book sale, then to UPS Store to copy the syllabus.

*  Home at 1:30 p.m. to read, then researched and wrote Trying out the TreeSeek Charts.  Checked Facebook, fired up the laptop, transferred the presentation material to the laptop and tested it out.

*  Went in at 4 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, take a nap, and eat dinner.  Watered front plants.  Gathered New England books for workshop on Saturday.

*  Tuned into GeneaBloggers Radio at 7 p.m. and chatted away until 8:30 p.m.  Went in and watched end of Padres game - won 3-1 over Astros (now 25-33, 10-21 at home).

*  Online to read, add to the Best Of post, and write this post.  Done!!
