My Genealogy Wednesday - 30 November 2016

The last day of November.  Almost time for colder weather, Santa and the reindeer, and end-of-year blog posts.  Oh yeah, Linda's birthday is Saturday, and she is going to be surprised, I hope.  More on that later.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and home by 9:15 a.m.  Noted that Visiting the Natvig Farm Area in Cottage Grove, Wisconsin -- Post 441 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted, and wrote November 30th CVGS Program is "Heirloom Show and Tell."

*  Took a 30 minute nap, then answered email and added to the Best Of post.  Had lunch, and we left for the lbirary at 11:30 a.m.

*  At the library by 11:55, took my Union Case and the McKnew picture into the Auditorium at the Library for the CVGS program meeting - an heirloom show and tell.  Meeting started at 12:15 with elections for 2017-18, then into the program.  Linda presented her picture with comments from me, and then I presented the Union Case.  Photos of the heirlooms/treasures were shown on the screen.  We were home by 2 p.m.

*  Read, worked a bit in Ancestry in one of my trees, looked for blog fodder and found none.  Did find the Ontario marriage and captured it.  Checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 4:45 p.m. to eat dinner, read the paper, and watch TV news.  Put out the trash for pickup.

*  Online at 6 p.m. to read, then wrote Browsing the Ontario, Canada County Marriage Records and the Treasure Chest post for Thursday.

*  Tired, so thinking of signing off early.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Sunday and Monday - 27-28 November 2016

These were not wonderful genealogy day.  I was lazy on Sunday and had a problem on Monday.

1)  Sunday, 27 November 2016:

*  Read email and blogs during Meet the Depressed, then stayed home from church and watched the Chargers game.  We beat Houston 21-13.  That raised my spirits a bit.  Watched some of the next game, but came online to note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 20 to 26 November 2016 posted.

*  Dropped Linda off, home to read email and blogs, picked her up and home by 9:20 a.m.  Noted that Surname Saturday -- REDWAY (England to colonial New England) posted.

My Genealogy Thanksgiving Day - 24 November 2016

This was a blog-free day until this post.  I need one every once in awhile.  It was a quiet Thanksgiving here in the Cave.  I did a lot of Seaver hunting in Ancestry and other sites.  That's fun for me.

*  Linda didn't go to the Y, so I was lazy until like 9 a.m. when I read email and blogs on the tablet, then came in on the desktop and noted that My Mayflower Connections - Soule, White, Warren, Cooke, Brewster, Hopkins and Fuller and I Am So Thankful... posted.

*  Started hunting Seaver folks on Ancestry, and added several families based on a random search, adding content and sources as I went.  Also matched about 100 folks from one Seaver line in FamilySearch Family Tree, and exchanged info on some of them.

*  Had lunch, noted that 1721 Marriage Intentions Record of James Hildreth and Dorothy Prescott of Chelmsford, Mass. - Treasure Chest Thursday #341 posted.  Worked on Seavers some more, then took my nap.

*  Online at 2:30 to continue the Seaver hunt.  We left at 4:15 p.m. for dinner at Black Angus.  I had the traditional turkey and mashed and sweet potatoes, but Linda couldn't have that due to allergies and she had a steak, which is never hot enough and/or is too well done.  We were home after 6.

*  Watched a bit of football, read the paper, put out the trash cans, and then back to the computer to write the 52 Ancestors post, then talked to Lori for 45 minutes.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, checked Facebook, and I'm in a tryptophan haze, so I'm probably going to bed early.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner, watch TV news, read the paper, and put out the trash.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, make the event list for Jim, and wrote a Treasure Chest post.  Worked a bit in Family Tree matching family members.  Checked Facebook, and added to the Best Of list.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Sunday and Monday - 6-7 November 2016

These have not been big genealogy days.  The election is FINASLLY tomorrow.  I have no clue who will win.  I voted for The Donald because he is not a Clinton, but he acted like one.  A prediction?  I say Clinton 48%, Trump 45%, Clinton 290 EV, Trump 245 RV.  I could be wrong.

1)  Sunday, 6 November:

*  Read email and blogs on my tablet, then off to church at 9:30 a.m.  Home by 11:20 to read, then updated the Best Of post.  Transcribed the inventory for the Amanuensis post.  Edited and printed the CVGS newsletter.

*  Went in at 12:40 p.m. to have lunch, take a short nap, and then watched the Chargers game.  We won 43-35 over Tennessee.  So now we're 4-5 and only 3 games behind the AFC West leaders.  No hope.

*  We left for dinner at Lolita's at 5 p.m. ,then shopping at Ralphs.  Home by 6:30 p.m. to watch football, then online to write the amanuensis post.  Got the TV stand and cave desktop cleared off, access to plugs opened, etc. for the AT&T installation on Monday.

*  Did not journal.  Checked Facebook.  Genealogy this day was 3.5 hours at best.

2)  Monday, 7 November 2016:

*  Dropped Linda at 7:30, home to read email and blogs, picked her up at 8:45 and home to wait for the AT&T installation guy.  Looked in on Mondays with Myrt but the guy came at 9:15.  We went over installation, and I left at 9:30 a.m. for Mission Valley and my OASIS class.

*  Beat the traffic jam, and in at 10 a.m. to set up, had 9 students.  I talked too much.  Left in a hurry at 12:30, home before 1 just as the AT&T guy drove off for lunch.  He came back, and finished up the TV installation.  Had to wait on the phone and Internet because the wires on the street needed to be updated by another guy.  Our guy left 10 minutes before that happened, so he's coming back on Tuesday I hope.  My Internet works with the old provider still.  The phone works with AT&T on phone jack in the wall.

*  Took my CVGS newsletter stuff to the UPS Store and published the newsletter and mailed them off.  Home by 3:30 to talk to Tami, then took a nap.

*  Online at 4:30 and noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 30 October to 5 November 2016 and Amanuensis Monday - 1665 Inventory for Arthur Clarke (1620-1665) of Boston, Mass. posted.  Wrote MyHeritage Launches Global DNA Testing Service.

*  Linda managed to get the TV onto some setting that wouldn't allow us to change channels.  Finally got to a channel we wanted by cycling it off and on several times.  The remote is confusing, and there is no user guide provided by AT&T.  It seems to stop working randomly, or it's user error.

*  We had dinner, I read the paper, watched TV and was online at 7 p.m. to write the Treasure Chest Tuesday post.  Also got the presentation onto the laptop from Dropbox.  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy this day was 5 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Saturday - 5 November 2016

Not much of a genealogy day - some football, a nap, and some blogging.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to put the wash in the dryer, then off to Marie Callenders for the Men's group breakfast, picked up Linda at 9:30 a.m. and home.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Surname Saturday -- ELDRED (England to colonial New England) posted.  Finished up the draft of the CVGS newsletter.  Need to make corrections still.

*  Went in at 12 noon to eat lunch, Linda went off with Barbara, got an hour nap in the recliner while watching football.

*  Online at 2 p.m. to note that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Your First Presidential Election posted.  Added to the Best Of post.  Worked in the V and W surnames in the database, adding content and sources.

*  Went in at 10 p.m. to watch the SDSU-Hawaii game.  Linda came home at 5:20 and we had dinner, I read the paper, watered the frontp lants, and read a bit of my book.  Aztecs won 55-0.  Watched some of the Alabama game too.

*  Online at 8 p.m. to read, then wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts.  Checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.  Need to set the clocks back.  Genealogy today was 5.5 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 4 November 2016

Just a blogging fool today...but not much else.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up at 9 a.m., then to her massage at 10, and picked her up at 11.  Noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 149: #202 Johann Daniel Dunckel (1713-1755) posted and wrote New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 4 November 2016.  Wrote This Week's We're Related Cousins and set it for later.

*  Had lunch, then answered email and added to the Best Of post.  Took my nap.

*  Online at 2:30 p.m. to read, check Facebook, write two posts for Saturday and two posts for the Chula Vista blog.  So that's six blog posts today.  Talked to Tami and kids on Facetime.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV, eat dinner, and read the paper.  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, then worked on the CVGS Newsletter - got it 90% done.  Talked to Lori.  Started working in the V surnames and added a little, but got bogged down matching Dill folks in FamilySearch Family Tree.  Resolved a bunch of names, dates, places and relationships.  Cleaned that line up!

*  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post (blog #7 today).  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 3 November 2016

This was a full day, but it wasn't all genealogy.  Warmer today, maybe 80F, but it's 55F in the morning at sunrise.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, and made a table to fill in with websites, usernames, passwords and email addresses.  Had a real struggle with Ancestry - the site would not change the email for some reason.  30 minutes wasted.  Finally called them and they fixed it quickly.  Picked Linda up, and we went to Sprouts and Costco.

*  Home by 10:30 a.m. to read, note that Revolutionary War Pension Payment Ledger Entry for Thomas Dill -- Treasure Chest Thursday Post #338 posted, and worked for awhile on the tables - got over 80 sites listed with help from Dashlane.

*  Had lunch, took my nap, worked some more on the table and have maybe half of them filled in and email changed.  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and researched and wrote Seavers in the News - Who were Edward E. Seaver's Parents?  Checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV, eat dinner and read the paper.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to work on the CVGS newsletter and got it maybe 60% done in an hour.  Then worked on the 52 Ancestors post.  Added to the Best Of post, and checked Facebook, then wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 2 November 2016

This would have been my grandfather's 125th birthday.  He's been gone 40 years now.  I sure wish that I started doing genealogy research earlier.  I'm sure he would have had fantastic stories about his life in San Diego.

*  Dropped Linda off, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and home by 9:15 a.m.  Noted that Visiting the Beaver Dam (Wis.) Community Library - Post 437 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted.  Looked at Ancestry Hints and checked some out.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds, then to the library for John's group, a talk with Jane, and then the CVGS Bored meeting.  Was home by 2:30 p.m. to have a nap.

*  Online at 3 p.m. to read, posted JustaJoy.com - the World's Largest Source of Discovered Family Heirlooms, and searched for something else to write about.  Researched and wrote A Look at RootsMagic WebHints for Rebecca (Spangler) Carringer.  Checked Facebook and added to the Best Of post.

*  Went in at 5:15 to watch the World Series game, then the AT&T guys came and sold us on changing our Internet, TV and phone package to them.  It will save $90 per month.  Installation is Monday.  The big drawback is that we lose our Cox email addresses which we've had for 16 years.  The good news is that my spam email will go down significantly!

*  Ate dinner, read the paper, put out the trash and watched the Cubs win 8-7 in 10 innings.

*  Online at 10 p.m. to read, then wrote the Treasure Chest post for Thursday and this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 1 November 2016

The first day of the month, and all of my data is backed up on iDrive.  I will also copy selected folders to my external drive tonight.

*  Dropped Linda, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, went to the grocery store, and home by 945 a.m.  Noted that Treasure Chest Tuesday -- 1930 U.S. Census for the Severt Leland Household in San Francisco, California and wrote Free Access to the Native American Collection on Fold3 Until 15 November 2016 and set it for later.

*  Finished up my Digital Microfilm presentation - had to add Case 4 on the Italian record search.

*  Answered email, added to the Best Of post, and worked a bit in FamilySearch Family Tree matching persons with my RootsMagic file.  Had lunch, lay down for a really short nap.

*  Online at 1:15 p.m. to read, then worked in Ancestry Hints and wrote Which Ellen/Nellie Did George William Seaver Marry?  'Tis a mystery to me!  Checked Facebook and Twitter.  Worked on getting my Kindle for PC updated and started on my two new books.

*  Went in at 4:45 p.m. to watch TV and then the World Series, we ate dinner, and I read the paper, then one of the books on my Android tablet, and finally my John Milton mystery on the tablet.  Cubs won 9-3.
