* Read email and blogs, and noted that 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - Week 45: #52 Ranslow Smith (1805-1873) posted.
* Matched and resolved some Seaver folks in FamilySearch Family Tree. Watched the FGS HOA from Thursday night. Checked Facebook.
* Found the Ranslow Smith gravestone photo on Find A Grave. Duh...shoulda found it before. Also Amos Vaux's graveston photo. Added source and media to the database. Wrote New or Updated Ancestry.com Databases - November 1-7, 2014.
* Resolved about 40 1930 US Census entries in Ancestry Hints, adding events, sources and people. Wrote Episode 473 of "I'd Rather Be Lucky Than Good!" Checked email and blogs, added to the Best Of post.
* Sharon and John called from Chicago area about her Seaver ancestry. Had a great talk. Will do some searching and send a report.
* Went in at 5:20 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, eat dinner, and water the front yard.
* Online at 7 p.m. to find RevWar Pension File of Robert W. Seaver for Sharon. Success! Wrote the Surname Saturday and SNGF posts. Searched for Sharon's Seaver folks and added content and sources to the database for her line.
* Wrote this post. Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Geneaholic Monday - 20 October 2014
I didn't journal on Saturday or Sunday, mainly because I did little of interest in genealogy.
1) Saturday, 18 October:
* Quickly read email and blogs, then off to the Men's breakfast at Marie Callenders. Home at 9:30 to note that Surname Saturday - LNU (England to colonial Massachusetts) posted.
* We left at 11:45 a.m. for Carlsbad to meet Tami and the girls at 12:30 for lunch. Got my Charlie fix, and the girls too...we went to the mall after lunch, Tami shopped, and I used Charlie as a chick magnet. We left at 3:45 p.m., home by 4:30.
* Took a nap, ate dinner, watched football, online at 7 p.m. and noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - What Is Your All-Time Favorite Song? posted.
* Watched the Aztecs game - they won 20-10 over Hawaii. Read and quit for the night. Genealgoy this day was about 3.0 hours.
2) Sunday, 19 October:
* Read email and blogs, finished up the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 12 to 18 October 2014 post. Then off to church.
* Homer by 11:15 a.m. to read, then watched football on TV. Charger game was at 1 p.m. Chiefs waxed us 23-20, but it wasn't that close.
* Went out and cut the front lawn to reduce my frustration. Watered the front yard. Came in to eat dinner, watch TV news, and online at 7 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and clear 54 of the 1940 US Census matches. Added a bunch of source citations.
* Started the new Best Of post, answered some email. Genealogy this day was 4.5 hours.
3) Monday, 20 October 2014:
* Finally, a clear genealogy day, and DearMYRTLE cancels the Mondays With Myrt. Drat. Oh well. Read email and blogs, then wrote Amanuensis Monday - Post 240: 1872 Deed of Land in Taylor County, Iowa from Devier J. and Abbie A. Smith to Alexander John.
* Research in Billion Graves and wrote Billion Graves Cemetery Maps and Gravesite Transcriptions and set it for later.
* Updated Legacy Family Tree. Fixed the lost Auble surname file - where and when did that go away? Retrieved it from Copy.com. Figured out I needed iTunes open to sync the iCloud. Duh - worked fine then! Spent 30 minutes getting a hotel room at the Hilton in SLC, Drat. Wanted the Radisson.
* Found the Kemp papers, and photoed them, then wrote My Top Genea-Discoveries -- Kemp Family Records and set it for later.
* Got back into the 1940 U.S. Census and cleared 47 more, adding sources and some content when necessary. Need to get the Seaver folks in there...
* Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, dozed a bit, and had dinner.
* Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, and then worked in the Hi surnames - got down to Hilton adding sources and content. Sources now 55,644 (up 158 from Friday). Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 23 August 2013
It was a little different day - more baseball, less genealogy on a Friday.
* Read email and blogs, updated the FGS and Best Of posts, and wrote Follow-up Friday - Helpful and Interesting Reader Comments, 23 August 2013.
* Worked in the 1861 Canadian Census on LAC for awhile, captured three records and saved them, along with the source information. Now I need to source them and add them to the database. I may do the same for the other census years too so that my sources are all to LAC (since it's free), but I'll try to add a link also.
* Gathered my cemetery stuff and went off to Mount Hope at 11 a.m. to find the gravestone for the Stephen-Hassard couple. Got a map at the office, found the gravesite relatively easily (5 minutes walking around trying to find names from the map), and took a bunch of pictures of the site, and then other graves in the Masonic section (the oldest section) of the cemetery. I may add them to Find A Grave if I feel up to it and the pictures are good enough.
* Home by 12:15 p.m. to watch the Little League game - the elimination game between Sammamish WA and Westport CT. These two teams fought their guts out - I have tremendous respect for the players, coaches and fans - excellent play, very few mistakes, good pitching. CT went ahead 5-2, then WA was up 12-5, then 13-6, 13-13 in the 6th inning, and CT won it 14-13 in the 7th. But WA almost pulled off a tremendous double-play - runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, ball hit to shortstop area, player tried to trap runner off third, runner from 2nd ran into the fielder (interference called), runner on 3rd went home, fielder threw to catcher for an out. Would have been out of the inning. But obstruction had been called, runner from 2nd out, runner from 3rd back to 3rd, still tied. Then CT got the winning hit. CT plays Chula Vista on Saturday for the US Championship, and winner of that goes to World Championship game on Sunday. I rooted for both teams today...I'll root for Chula on Saturday, and hope that Chula and Tijuana make the World game.
* The game lasted until 3:15 p.m., so online to write A Visit to Mount Hope Cemetery in San Diego. Also updated the FGS and Best posts.
* We left at 4:15 for shopping for clothes for Randy - I hate shopping for me, and it's worse with Linda along. We waste too much time. Due to my weight loss (25 pounds this year), my pants don't fit and I need a shorter belt. So three pairs of pants, two Hawaiian shirts, a belt - all on sale - later we went off to Lolita's for dinner, then to ColdStone for ice cream. I fear I added a pound or two tonight.
* Home by 6:45 p.m. to write the Surname Saturday post, then went in to watch the Padres game, read the paper, and then my book. Pads were behind 6-0 to Cubs before the firsto ut was made...looked like a give-up night for me. But the Pads scrambled pack, with a 3-run homer in the 4th, a 2-run triple in the 5th, a run in the 6th to tie, a homer in the 7th and another in the 8th, and we had an 8-6 win. Best comeback of the year. Great relief pitching and timely hitting. Pads now 58-70 on the season.
* Game over at 10:30 p.m., came in to write this post, check Facebook, and add to the DFS post. Bed time!

My genealogy day - 15 October 2012
Today was my father's 101st birthday. I was going to repost my biography of him which I couldn't find on Genea-Musings. I wonder where it went? Drat.
* Read email and blogs, then wrote Amanuensis Monday - Probate Records for Daniel Spangler (1781-1851) of Mercer County, Pennsylvania, Ancestry.com Death Records Contest - Research, Enter and Win and Finding Daniel Spangler's Probate Records on FamilySearch - the Russell Index System and set it for early afternoon.
* Printed off the CVGS Bylaw material. Gathered up my Glen Abbey photo lists and left at 1:15 p.m. for the cemetery. Found 3 of the 5 graves. Took pictures. Went to the office to see about the other two. They had one, and not the other. Went looking for the one and couldn't find it.
* Got to Olive's house at 2:30 p.m. for the CVGS Bylaws meeting. Went OK...
* Home by 5 p.m. to read, then went in at 5:20 p.m. to watch the Chargers game on ESPN. Great first half (24-0), terrible second half (0-35) - lost to Broncos 35-24. Very strange game! Frustrating.
* Online at 9 p.m. to read, check Facebook, add to the Best Of post, and write this post.

I got several tasks completed today...and my Padres lost again.
* Read email and blogs, wrote Tuesday's Tip - Find New York Records on FamilySearch.
* Wrote my Graveyard Rabbit article and sent it to Robin. Done!
* Accuracy in FamilySearch Indexing - My Results To Date posted and received many comments.
* Double checked the income tax file, finished it, e-filed it, printed off the forms, and wrote checks to pay it off. Done!
* Answered some emails. Researched and wrote Feeding my Family Tree - Massachusetts Folks and continued working in the database, adding content and sources for several more families.
* Went in for dinner at 5:15 p.m. and watched TV afterwards until 6 p.m.
* Online at 6 p.m. to check Facebook, then did an Indexing batch from Humboldt County CA. Looks like the indexing is progressing alphabetically by county. Added to the Best Of post.
* Went in at 7 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, read my book, play Angry birds and check email and blogs on the iPhone. Pads lost 4-2 to Zonies in 11 innings. Drat.
* Online at 10:40 p.m. to read, and write this post.

My genealogy day - 10 January 2012
This was a fun day because I found the historic San Diego newspapers on GenealogyBank. I wonder when they were added? I should pay closer attention to the GenealogyBank announcements that come by email.
* Read email and blogs, then saw Denise's mention of the SD newspapers and quickly wrote Tuesday's Tip - San Diego Newspapers on GenealogyBank. Wrote FREE Webinar Series from APG and set it for later.
* Answered some email, and added some correspondent data to my database. Worked some more in FamilyTreeDNA and wrote My Family Finder Autosomal Test Results - Post 2.
* Dug out my Genealogy is Fun talk that had 69 slides. Modified the handout first by checking links, and then adding some to it. Then went through the talk and now have 100 slides since I have so much new material. Will winnow it down a bit I think - the goal is 80 now. I can do that in an hour, I think.
* Succumbed to temptation and went back into GenealogyBank to find more Carringer/Auble data in San Diego newspapers. Started in on the San Diego Union and saved some screen shots. Wrote The Carringer Gardens in 1935.
* Went in for dinner, watched the news and read the paper. Online at 7 p.m. to do more GenealogyBank mining, and ended up with 24 screen shots. There were lots of land transactions.
* Finally decided that I'd better write my GYR Journal article due on Wednesday. Did that and sent it off.
* Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook and Google Plus, and wrote this post.

My genealogy days - 17 and 18 June 2011
I missed journaling last night because of time constraints. And two little girls that came to visit on Friday and left tonight. They are so cute and fun.
Friday, 17 June:
* Read email and blogs, wrote Dear Randy: Can you explain this Genealogical Paradox? Got cleaned up, and found the cemetery query, looked in the Glen Abbey file, found the lot number, and printed the map.
* Stopped to get gas, at the library, then to Glen Abbey Memorial Park and found the site and took some pictures. Even took more for the SSDCGraveyard Rabbit blog sometime soon. Then to Costco for a Polish dog and drink for lunch.
* Got home at noon, read, then wrote Genealogy Radio Shows and Webinars this weekend. Tami and the girls came, and two down for naps, and Lolo went with Linda to the Y to practice swimming. Wrote CVGS Research Group Summary - 8 June 2011 and CVGS Computer Group Highlights - 15 June 2011 on Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog.
* Went in to watch TV and nap, Audrey woke me up at 3:15 and we played. Went to dinner at Rubio's and to Cold Stone for ice cream (Audrey shared mine) and were home by 7 p.m.
* Listened to Geneabloggers Radio while giving girls a shower, got them dressed and ready for bed. Audrey stayed awake until after 10. Lolo passed out with Linda before 9.
* Wrote the Surname Saturday post and SNGF post. Added to the Best Of post. Checked Facebook.
Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.
Saturday, 18 June:
* Up with the girls at 6:30 a.m., got them fed, dressed and played outside for awhile. Tami up at 8:30 so that I could go off to CGSSD meeting. Noted that Surname Saturday - PICKLE/BEUCHEL - Germany > NJ) posted.
* Left at 8:30 for UCSD in La Jolla, got there by 9 a.m., sat in FTM class and offered wisdom. Then welcomed Gini and Elyse, and Elyse did an excellent job on Google: More than Genealogy to the assembled throng. Tweeted through the whole thing.
* Home by 12:40 p.m. to eat lunch, then watched FGS Webinar with Josh Taylor of NEHGS. Girls came home at 2 p.m., and went down for naps. Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Who is Your Most Recent Unknown Ancestor? posted.
* Wrote My daughter's Facebook photo. Audrey up by 3:30, and Tami packed up and left after by 4. Watched Padres game then we left at 4:45 for dinner at Oggi's. Home by 6 p.m. to watch rest of the game. Watered the back yard. Padres lost 1-0 (now 30-42...doesn't look good for the boys).
* Online at 7 p.m. to read, worked in RootsMagic a bit adding census sources from notes. Installed Family Tree Builder and uploaded GEDCOM to MyHeritage on one-year subscription - thanks, MyHeritage!
* Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post and started a SNGF compendium post, then wrote this blog post.

Friday, 17 June:

Randy's Genealogy Days - 12-13 July 2010
We were back this morning from our one day trip to Corona. Fun and interesting, our thanks to Jean for the opportunity and hospitality.
On Monday, 12 July:
* Read email, blogs and Twitter, and posted Amanuensis Monday - Sarah Putman's RevWar Pension Affidavit and wrote Copyright Fundamentals for Genealogists.
* Got cleaned up, checked Facebook, wrote two posts for later on Monday and Tuesday morning, had lunch, and closed down computer.
* We left for Corona at 1 PM, stopped in Elsinore for the Outlet stores (Book Warehouse had really poor selection of biography and history books!), and got to Temescal Valley Rd in time to stop at Trader Joe's then find the Miguel's restaurant.
* Met Jean and Gena for dinner, then off to Corona Public Library by 6 PM to get set up for talk there. My talk started at 7 PM on Using Ancestry.com Effectively - 90 minutes of screen shots and demonstrations and summaries. Had over 50 in attendance - hope they got something out of it.
* Followed Jean to her home afterwards, and spent the night there. Good conversation before everybody started yawning! The NGS Quarterly - June 2010 Issue Table of Contents posted while we were driving up.
Tuesday, 13 July:
* Up early at Jean's, left at 8 AM, stopped for breakfast in Elsinore, were home by 10:45 AM. I watched TV and took a nap, then ate lunch.
* Finally online at 12:15 PM, read email and blogs, and noted that Tombstone Tuesday - Deadman and NGS Magazine - April-June 2010 Issue posted while we were on the road.
* Answered some email, then wrote my GYR Journal column and sent it to Gale. Found SDU-T article from 2004 and posted link in "Personal Plots" at La Vista Memorial Park.
* Watched the Dot-Con video, and posted it in The Dot-Con Video - Genealogy Scam Revealed?.
* Went in at 5:15 PM to watch the All-Star game, eat dinner, read the paper, water the back dirt, wash the dishes and finish my book.
* Back online at 9 PM, read everything, checked Facebook, then worked on improving my Elusive Ancestor presentation. Wrote this post!

Randy's Genealogy Day - 6 April 2010
A stay-at-home day...lots to do, and all of it didn't get done because priorities changed.
* Read email and blogs, then Twitter, and wrote GeneaBlogger Meetup in Sydney and FREE Census Records on Footnote.com through April.
* Worked on Graveyard Rabbit article and sent it to the editor. Checked Facebook. Got cleaned up and had lunch.
* Linda wanted vacation pictures in hard copy, so added photos from her camera, renamed all photos from both cameras, then created sheets of wallet photos for Cairns, Sydney, Christchurch, Queenstown, Auckland and Fiji. 8 pages in all. Took awhile.
* Captured screens and wrote Finding Wiltshire Historical Records then went out to mow the front lawn. Got it done, ate dinner and dessert while Linda at Girl's Night Out, and read everything ahead of Padres game.
* Watched Padres' game, read paper, finished NGS Mag, read book. Pads won 6-3 (1-1 on season). Over at 10 p.m.
* Read everything, wrote this post. Done.

Randy's Genealogy Day - 7 November 2009
This was a different genealogy day for me - actually got out of the Genealogy Cave and did something fun and useful in the outdoor world.
* Read email, blogs and Twitter before going off to the Men's Bible Study breakfast at 8 a.m. Surname Saturday - RICHMAN/RICHMOND posted while I was cleaning up.
* After breakfast, headed to San Diego Public Library downtown to finish off a CVGS query about tattoo parlors in San Diego. Found it, copied it, then talked to genealogy librarian Susan for awhile - she knows so much San Diego area history!
* Took off for Mission Hills and Pioneer Park where they dug up all of the gravestones, threw them in a gully at Mount Hope, and then replanted some of them in an area of Pioneer Park. Took pictures of quite a few for SSDCGYRabbit blog. Then went by the 30th Street neighborhood and took pictures of the Carringer houses.
* Home by 12 noon, read everything, and saw the Public Profiler site on Al's blog, so used it for Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Surname Distributions! Yep, on a whim. That's how I usually choose - I believe in Just-in-Time SNGF!
* Went in to watch SDSU/TCU game, read the paper, took a short nap, and came back after halftime (SDSU down 31-6) to mess around online in Twitter and Facebook. Aztecs lost 55-12.
* Linda left after 4 p.m. to help our neighbors in the rest home, so read new FORUM mag online, then ate dinner, watched more football, and then the news.
* Back online at 6:30 p.m. - decided I'd better finish up the CVGS Newsletter. Got it done, printed off for copying, saved as a PDF for emailing, and printed off the address list. Ready to publish tomorrow!
* Wrote most of the Best of the Genea-blogs post tonight because tomorrow is church, CVGS publishing at 12 noon, and the Chargers Game. Then wrote this post.

Genealogy Journal - 04/02/09
It was a strange day - I stayed home, blogged a bit, read a lot, had the ProGen chat and said goodbye to an old friend.
After reading email and blogs, and checking on Twitter, wrote We're Related - what value is it? - a rant about the Facebook app that still sucks. Sorry, that's how it really is, at least for genealogists. Changed my colors, and the blog name, back to semi-normal after leaving the Genea-Fool up for a day. Finally decided to write a What If... for the Carnival, so did that in There are things that happen in a moment... and backdated it to pretend that it made the Carnival deadline. Facebooked, Tweeted, emailed, read blogs, and wrote my article for the next GYR OJ (Online Journal). Along the way, I wrote Genealogy Days in Chula Vista - April 2009 on the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog.
Had lunch around noon, then back at it working on my ProGen homework some more. Wrote Working in RootsMagic 4 - Post 6: Creating a Narrative Ancestors Report and then searched for society newsletters available on the Internet - found some nice ones - they give me ideas for spicing up the CVGS newsletter. Dinner time, and Linda was tired from the zoo and the park with her friend, so I fixed split pea soup out of the can for her and I nuked a pork rib and canned corn for me for dinner.
Came back to the computer after 6 p.m., checked email, blogs, Twitter, Facebook and looked for more newsletters. Sent email to the CVGS Board asking for newsletter stuff, and at 8 p.m. the ProGen chat started. Windows Live Messenger shut us down twice for some reason, but we were done by 9. That was good - I went in and enjoyed watching two hours of ER and saying goodbye to the series and the actors - bittersweet - it's been part of my Thursday nights for 15 years. Some surprises tonight - Dr. Greene's daughter came back as a med student, Carter's former wife came back to see the opening of the Joshua Carter center, and Benton, Lizzie, Susan and Carrie showed up in the final hour. Life - and death - went on in the ER. I felt sad and really enjoyed the show.

Genealogy Journal - 02/24/09
Life intervenes sometimes when you least expect it. We were all set for Tami, Lolo and Audrey to come on Wednesday. However, Linda had to go get Lolo this afternoon because of schedule problems, so she was here from nap time on.
I was on the computer by 8 a.m., read my email and blogs, checked Facebook, and wrote Tombstone Tuesday - Alpheus Smith in Medfield MA. I added some updates to the Who's #21 post too. I got cleaned up and ready to go out, and was at the FHC by 10:45. I found the deeds on the two films, and was headed home by 11:45. I stopped at Glen Abbey Cemetery to take a picture for a query, but the sun was too bright and I couldn't get the picture my correspondent wants (this is the third time I've tried) - I need a morning or a cloudy afternoon, I guess. I was home by 12:30, had lunch and was reading email and blogs when Linda brought Lolo home. I came back and read some of Evidence Explained for the ProGen homework, then worked on Genealogy Search Engines: Footnote.com - Post 2: Simple Search for an hour. When Lolo got up at 3, my blogging time was over. We went out to ride her bike, played in the family room, watched Diego on TV, and I even got a short nap before dinner.
After dinner, she watched TV and played while I researched and wrote Use Google Language Tools to aid Hispanic Research, then she had a bath and I read a book to her, rocked and sang my song to her, and tried to put her down at 8:30. At 10:15, she's still awake! During all of the up-and-down, I wrote two posts for Wednesday because I figure my morning will be taken by feeding and caring for Lolo before I go off to the CVGS Program.

Genealogy Journal - 02/19/09
This was an interesting genealogy day - blogging, cemetery walking, TGF chat, downloading, testing, etc. Different than most!
I was on the computer early by 7:20 a.m., read my email and blogs, and didn't know what to post until I saw James Tanner's post about FamilySearch Record Search's new interface, so I wrote LDS Record Search Changes and added some screen shots. I got cleaned up and went off to the dentist to have my new molar installed. I was done by 9:45 - it feels really tight, not sure it won't have to be adjusted.
Rather than head home for a dreary morning of blogging about something, I went to Glen Abbey Cemetery to take some pictures for a CVGS query. Then I went off to La Vista to see if David d. smith are buried there - nope! I took the opportunity to take more pictures of interesting graves, but the camera batteries were exhausted, so I headed home, stopped at McDonald's for lunch, and was home by 11:30 a.m. I read email, blogs and Facebook, then installed new batteries in the camera, uploaded my photos to the computer, and sorted them into file folders. I posted Mormon Battalion Memorial at Fort Rosecrans and Civil War Soldiers buried at La Vista Cemetery in National City CA on the South San Diego County Graveyard Rabbit blog.
Then it was time for some Ancestry Search blogging, so I wrote and posted Genealogy Search Engines: Ancestry.com - Post 3: New Search, Exact Matches on Genea-Musings. That took awhile, and in the meantime Linda came home. I went and uploaded some photos from Disneyland to Facebook, and added the Friends Wheel application to Facebook. At 4:30, I came in to read the paper, watch TV and take a nap, then had dinner and Linda went out to her church group. I posted about Lots of Facebook Friends and Twitter Tweeters and got ready for the TGF Chat on Windows Live Messenger.
We had five chatting tonight, but Lori called at the start and I talked to her for 15 minutes while trying to type on the chat. The chat was over at 8 p.m., and I read email and blogs, answered some emails, checked Facebook, then captured some RevWar Pension File pages for Pam and emailed them to her, and explored World Vital Records databases for awhile. You can't print out complete book pages, apparently. That's frustrating! Then I wrote this post and I'm going to go watch ER at 10 p.m.

Genealogy Journal - 02/06/09
It started out as a rainy day in San Diego. I was up early, fed and dressed, read my email and posted about the Family History Expo in St. George before I went off for an 8:30 a.m. dentist appointment to fix my broken tooth. I was home after 10 a.m. with a numb cheek and a temporary crown on #14. I read my blogs, checked in on Facebook and Twitter, and looked at Legacy for source citation helps. I posted about the San Pasqual Battle (1846) Memorial at Fort Rosecrans on the SSDC Graveyard Rabbit blog.
After lunch, I posted about Teeth and Dentistry over time. I worked on the Legacy 7 source citations for awhile - did a Bible record and put the screen shots in an OpenOffice presentation, then made JPG files of all the screen shots. I wrote Legacy 7 Source Citations - First Look with 12 screen shots to document the step-by-step of the process. Legacy's templates seem easier to use than FTM 2009. I touted it on Twitter and Facebook, then answered notes on Facebook for awhile. I answered several emails from the library about our request for better wi-fi signals in the Conference Room and Library. It was dinner time, so I watched the news, read the paper and we ate at home.
After dinner, I did some homework on my Westmoreland County PA deeds - I listed the early ones I want to see for the Houk/Hoke/Hawk/Hough names. I wrote a post for Saturday morning, then wrote five posts about the CVGS program survey and member survey taken last month - some will appear on future days on the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog. And finally, this post and I'll check email, blogs and Facebook and be done for the night.

I wrote Legacy 7 Source Citations - First Look with 12 screen shots to document the step-by-step of the process. Legacy's templates seem easier to use than FTM 2009. I touted it on Twitter and Facebook, then answered notes on Facebook for awhile. I answered several emails from the library about our request for better wi-fi signals in the Conference Room and Library. It was dinner time, so I watched the news, read the paper and we ate at home.
After dinner, I did some homework on my Westmoreland County PA deeds - I listed the early ones I want to see for the Houk/Hoke/Hawk/Hough names. I wrote a post for Saturday morning, then wrote five posts about the CVGS program survey and member survey taken last month - some will appear on future days on the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog. And finally, this post and I'll check email, blogs and Facebook and be done for the night.
Genealogy today was 8.0 hours - 0.5 hour doing email, 0.5 hour reading blogs, 0.5 hour on Facebook, 3.5 hours writing blog posts, 0.5 hour working on CVGS issues, 1.0 hour working in Legacy source citations, and 1.5 hours working on the deed index.

Genealogy Journal - 01/20/09
It was a big day for the country, but a quiet day for me. I really didn't do much worthwhile to advance the genealogy ball today.
I was on the computer by 7:30, read my email, blogs and Facebook, even tweeted once. I got to thinking about the moment, and posted Is this a day that will live in history? I think it probably will, especially if BHO is successful. At 8:30, I went in to watch the inauguration, and stayed with it until about after 11, when I had lunch at home. I came back to the computer, uploaded my photographs from Saturday, rotated the ones that were portrait, and wrote Tombstone Tuesday - Fred and Betty (Carringer) Seaver. Now I'm fresh out of tombstone pictures of my ancestors - at least in my digital files. I need to find the ones I know I have and scan them during Scanfest on Sunday.
I wrote the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery post on the SSDC Graveyard Rabbit blog. I checked email, blogs and Facebook again, and answered several emails, and posted the NEHGS Press Release - 2008 Databases. At around 3 p.m., I got into my database and made several genealogy reports to use to find the unchanged sources in my database, and also to identify what sources to add to my database. I uploaded some San Diego pictures to Facebook, then worked a little on the Unclaimed Persons case #66 also, and looked for Richard Nixon in the 1930 census on Ancestry without success. I worked on my Genealogy is Fun! presentation for Saturday, and have it pretty much done. I need to work some more on the handout. It was dinner time, so I came back after we ate at 6:30.
One of my correspondents had suggested looking for Ray Thompson instead of Roy/Leroy Thompson, so I worked with that for awhile. I tweeted about my Thompson problem, and right away Christopher on Facebook opened a chat window with me and we discussed the case for at least an hour. Linda needed to use the computer, so I read my book and watched TV, finally coming back at 10:45 to write this post and be done for the night.

Genealogy Journal - 01/17/09
This was not the typical Saturday genealogy day for me. I really didn't do much. Or so I thought!
I was up real early - 6 a.m. for some reason, and was on the computer by 6:30. I read email and blogs, then posted Papers, Images, Indexes and Searches (written the night before). After cleaning up, I gathered my laptop and took off for the Men's Bible Study at 8 a.m. in National City and then went to the CGSSD meeting at UCSD in La Jolla, getting there late at 9:15 a.m. That lasted until 12 noon, and I drove through McDonald's for lunch, then up to Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery to visit and photograph the graves of my parents, then many other graves there, some San Diego scenes too, then drove back through Point Loma to Shelter Island and Harbor Island for more scenery pictures and was home by 2:15 p.m.
Once home, I read email, blogs and Facebook, then posted CGSSD Meeting Highlights - DNA and DVDs about the CGSSD events. I posted seven jokes from my email to Randy's Busy Life, played with Ancestry searches a bit, then went in to take a nap, read the paper and watch TV. At 6 p.m., we went out to dinner to Daphne's, then to Coldstone for ice cream, and we were home by 7:15 p.m.
I did email, blogs and Facebook, then read some of the Ancestry.com blog comments about searches and indexing. Wow. I posted Saturday Night Fun - When, Where and What is Randy Doing? I figured that I had better do something useful, so I worked on my Project M data - putting it in the database for Ed and his brothers. Then this post and I'm done - I'm sleepy and need my rest before the football games tomorrow.

Genealogy Journal - 12/02/08
It was a frustrating day in many ways - no real research done, some computer related problems, some file reorganization, some blogging, and some ProGen/TGSG homework done.
After reading email and blogs, NGS 2009 in Raleigh - Registration is now open was posted. I thought that the program listing was very useful in helping someone determine if they want to attend, and no other blogger has posted it yet (well, besides Diane Richard, who runs the NGS 2009 blog). I decided to link to the 2007 Advent Calendar posts on a weekly basis in case someone wants to read my memories from last year - hence This Week's Advent Calendar of Genea-Musings Posts (I probably could have worded that better!). After washing up and dressing, I forgot that I had planned to go to the FHC, and checked in on Facebook instead. Linda's birthday is tomorrow, and I have a small keychain photo viewer that needed photos uploaded, so I did that until I made it work.
I ate lunch at my desk, and worked on my Elusive Ancestor forms and posted a note on the TGSG Google Group about the forms, with links to my web page. I had to update my web page a bit too. I worked on organizing my New England cemetery and house photographs. Time sure flies ... I posted Tombstone Tuesday - the Seaver/Hildreth Stone at 3:30 p.m. and wondered where the time went. Back to Facebook, blogs and email. I had a correspondent write about one of my friend's families, so I created a genealogy report for him and sent it off. At 5 p.m., I went in to watch news, read the paper, and eat dinner.
After dinner, I was back on the computer at 7 p.m. I spent some time updating my Locality Research form for Hempfield, Westmoreland County, PA to include Hempfield resource information. Then I worked on the new cemetery photographs, and posted Cypress View Mausoleum on the SSDC Graveyard Rabbit blog. That left this post to finish off the night.

Genealogy Journal - 12/01/08
What a full genealogy day. It was fun. I even did a little shopping (um, er, well, walking around the mall looking in stores like Penneys, Macy's and Borders).
I was on the computer by 8 a.m. and reading my email and blogs. I posted SCGS Writing Contest Entries due by 31 December, checked Facebook and then got dressed to go out. I left before 120 and went to Greenwood Cemetery in San Diego in search of my elusive David and Amy Smith, plus Mary Ann Morrill (Davey and Mary are siblings of Della Carringer). I know they died in SD, but I haven't found their graves yet. I'm thinking now that they're still in an urn on somebody's fireplace mantle. I had a nice tour there, and then went to Cypress View and struck out there too - no tour. I took pictures at both places for the SSDCGYR blog. From there, I went to Plaza Bonita to shop for Linda's birthday (Wednesday) but had no luck finding clothes - I did get a card! Maybe the mail order stuff will come in time. I had lunch at the Food Court (Johnny Rockets - good bacon cheeseburger!) and checked out the Ancestry/FTM display at Borders - yep, still there.
From there, I went to the library for Table Talk with Dearl, John and Julie, but got tired and came home. I was home by 2 p.m., and read email and blogs, then read the latest Internet Genealogy magazine, and printed off the Table of contents for all of them so that I can find articles of interest. I noticed that Janice Nickerson had listed 10 favorite genealogy blogs, so I posted Another Top 10 Genealogy Blogs list. I checked in on Facebook, then read my politics blogs before going in at 5 to read the paper, watch the news and have dinner.
After dinner, I dozed a bit, then came in at 6:30 and posted Photos from Georgie Stillman's "Heirloom Discovery Day" Program and Genealogy Days in Chula Vista - December 2008 on the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe. I posted the link to the Heirloom Day on Genea-Musings too. I have a ProGen chat on Thursday, so I read Chapter 16 and created a Locality Research Survey form and started filling it in for Westmoreland County, PA. I was nearly finished by 10 p.m. when I quit, read email and blogs, and wrote this post.
