My Genealogy Saturday - 31 December 2016

Well, this is it - the last post of the year.  Number 266.  Genea-Musings is at #979.

Happy New Year to geneaholics everywhere - the only holicism where folks are encouraged to take part in whatever it is we do all day long and all year long.

It was a rainy day, so we stayed home until tonight when we went to Barbara's for dinner and discussion.  Talked a lot about genealogy and DNA.

*  Linda didn't go to the Y, so I read email and blogs and added to the Best Of post.  Noted that  Surname Saturday -- LNU (England to Colonial New England) posted.

*  Checked Facebook, and saw that Family Tree Maker updates were available, so I posted Family Tree Maker Newsletter - dated 24 December 2016.  Then I found my email in Spam with the link to get Version 2014.1 for Windows, so I did and installed it easily.  Had trouble with one of the FTM trees wouldn't sync with the AMT, but I had that problem before.  A second FTM tree did sync.  I didn't notice any features added.

*  Had lunch, then noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun (SNGF) - What did Genea-Santa Bring You? posted.  Went in to watch football, and dozed a bit.

*  Online at 2 p.m. to read, then checked Facebook, and added to the Best Of post.  Went back in to watch football.

*  We left at 4:30 p.m. for Barbara's for the dinner party, only 8 there.  Had a nice conversation with the others, and had a nice dinner and yummy desserts.  I'm full.  We left at 9:15 p.m.

*  Online at 9:30 to read, then wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.0 hours.

One more day left in the long year of 2016.  A Saturday.  We're going to a New Year's Eve party so don't look for a post tomorrow night.

*  It was raining, so Linda didn't go to the Y.  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, answered email, and noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 157: #222 Burgess Metcalf (1741-1816) of New Hampshire posted.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper and eat dinner.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, then wrote the two Saturday posts and also the Industry post for Sunday.  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 29 December 2016

Did you miss me?  It's been Christmas week, and I usually disappear on this blog due to family events.

We went to Tami's on Christmas morning and stayed one night.  Had a lot of fun helping Charlie play with the new Paw Patrol train set we gave him.  A big WIN.  We brought all three kids home with us on Monday, and Monday and Tuesday were hectic.  We took them back to Tami in Carlsbad on Wednesday at noon.  I came home and crashed.

I did monitor my email and blogs, and even posted a few articles, but didn't do any research until today.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, came home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and home by 9:10 a.m.  Noted that 1775 Muster Roll for Burgess Medcalf in New Hampshire Revolutionary War Records - Treasure Chest Thursday Post #346 posted.  Wrote SDGS Seminar on 14 January 2017 Features Thomas MacEntee and set it for later.

*  Updated my Presentation Schedule and Amanuensis Monday post pages.  Need to update the Biographies page sometime soon.

*  Researched and wrote Randy's Best Genea-Musings Posts for 2016 and set it for afternoon.  Had lunch, took my nap, and looked at the 52 Ancestors biography.  Lots of work to do!  Checked Facebook.

*  Searched for records, added sources and notes for the events.  Took the rough notes into Notepad and created the biography there - much easier than doing it within RootsMagic!  Learned a new trick!

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to do the laundry, then helped Linda with the gift that came today.  We had dinner, read the paper and watched TV.  Got the laundry done and washed dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to add to the Best Of post, do more research and then wrote the 52 Ancestors post - the start of Year 4.  Who knew it would take so long.

*  Checked Facebook, answered email, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 23 December 2016

I got all of the wrapping done today after the package with the three main gifts for Angel Linda came via UPS.  I cut that too close.  Memo to self:  Order stuff by 1 December.

It drizzled off and on today, but a big storm tonight.  We have delayed our trip to HB until Sunday morning.  We will miss all the rain and the Christmas Eve day traffic.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, got gas, home to read email and blogs, got the wash done, picked her up, we went grocery shopping and home at 9:30 a.m. to find the house cleaner working hard.

*  Noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 156: #221 Hannah (Colby) Underhill (1745-????) of New Hampshire posted, and wrote New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 23 December 2016.

*  Answered email, added to the Best Of post, and went in at 11:15 to take my nap.

*  Up at noon, had lunch, online at 12:15 to read, then wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts, and then the This Week's We're Related Relationships, 23 December 2016 post.  Wrapped presents.

*  Checked Facebook, worked in the database a bit, then discarded cookies and the cache.  That screwed up GenealogyBank so that I can't use it now.  Crap.  But it made AncestryDNA right.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to read the paper, eat dinner, watch TV news, and wash dishes.  Linda went Christmas light looking with Barbara.

*  Online at 6:45 p.m. to note that Twelve Days of a Genealogy Christmas - Randy's Version posted, wrote the Surname Saturday post, and worked in FamilySearch Family Tree on the Dill families, matching persons, standardizing places, and adding content when warranted.

*  Checked Facebook, answered email, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 22 December 2016

This was a stay at home genealogy day for me, and I had some blogging fun too.  It rained most of the day so Linda did not go to the Y.  She did go out shopping with a friend.  More rain is coming on Saturday.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that 1745 Birth Record for Hannah Colby of Amesbury, Mass. -- Treasure Chest Thursday #345 posted.

*  Wrote five blog posts for the rest of the week and the weekend.

*  Got the second bank account entered into MS Money so all I need are the December statements.  Glad to have this almost done!

*  Had lunch, then worked in Findmypast for awhile chasing Vaux folks in the 1939 Register.  Added to the Best Of post, and answered email.  Noted that Historical Records of an American Santa Claus posted.  Took my nap.

*  Online at 3:15 p.m. to read, then worked on names in the database, adding content and sources.

*  Went in at 4:30 p.m. to watch the Aztecs basketball game (they won so now 6-4), read the paper, cooked dinner, and washed dishes.  We wrapped presents too.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, then worked in the database some more.  Wrote the 52 Ancestors post but messed up and forgot to post it for Friday.  Noted that Christmas Names in the Ancestry.com Records posted.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 21 December 2016

10 more days in December, only 3 more shopping days until Christmas.  Linda still hasn't found my Christmas gift - the pants she bought a month ago.  I think I've been wearing them this week.  It rained a bit this morning, and quite a bit tonight.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read emails and blogs, picked her up and home by 9:15 a.m.  Noted that Visiting Old World Wisconsin - Post 1-- Post 444 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted.  Also did laundry today.

*  The tree cutter started on the hillside, and was done by 5 p.m.  It looks better.  He also got the garage door to open.  Cool.  A twofer.

*  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote Recent New Databases Added to AmericanAncestors.org and set it for later.  Resolved place names in Jay's tree.  Went in and took my nap.

*  Had lunch, then online at 12:30 p.m. to read, answer email, and worked in MyHeritage Record Matches for awhile, adding content and sources to my RootsMagic database.  Checked out the hillside.

*  Checked Facebook, looked for Seaver newspaper articles, and wrote Blog Caroling - "Angels We Have Heard On High."

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, read the paper, put out the trash and wash dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, write the Treasure Chest post for Thursday, and got to the Z surnames in my database, adding content and sources.  I need to go through the list one more time.  also resolved a bunch of place names.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Tuesday - 20 December 2016

This was another beautiful day in Chula Vista, warm, sunny, no wind, high around 75F, low around 45F.

*  Dropped Linda off, read emails and blogs, picked her up, and home by 9:15 a.m.  Noted that Treasure Chest Tuesday - 1870 U.S. Census Record for Frederick Schaffner Family in San Francisco County, California posted.  Added to the Best Of post.

*  Decided I'd better balance the bank accounts, haven't done it since February.  Found the bank statements, and finished one of them, then had to find the deposit slips for what I deposited, and the credit card statements for what we spent on the card.  The latter is the hardest thing since there are like 20 to 40 entries each month.  Wrote AncestryDNA Update - December 2016 at noon, then had my nap and had lunch afterwards.

*  Back to the balancing act, and finished around 4 p.m. for the first account.  Still have to do the second bank account.  The tree trimmer guy came and did the front cypress trees and the two big bushes in the side yard.  Yay!  He's coming back to do the hillside tomorrow.

*  Checked Facebook, and worked in the FamilySearch Family Tree for awhile, then got into Jay's tree and checked it out.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. and finished cooking dinner, we ate watching TV news, I read the paper, then did the dishes.  Linda went to bed.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to add more to Jay's tree, then made a PDF of a narrative report for him.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.0 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 19 December 2016

I keep pecking away at the gift list - got another stocking thing today.  Now Linda can't find a gift she bought for me two weeks ago.  For all I know, I may be wearing it!  Clear and sunny today, low around 40F and high around 70F.

*  Dropped Linda off, home to read email and blogs and log into Mondays with Myrt, picked her up and able to join MwM at 8:55 a.m.  Worked this week...yay!   Lots of discussion items - it went fast.

*  Finished reading blogs, noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 11 to 17 December 2016 posted, added to the Best Of post, and took my nap.  Up at 12:30 to have lunch, then read blogs and email, and noted that  Amanuensis Monday - 1773 Division of Land in Court Records for Estate of Samuel Brown (1686-1749) of Eastham, Mass. posted.

*  Went off at 1:30 p.m. to the post office then to CVS for the stocking stuffer.  Home by 2:15 to read, answer email, wrote RootsTech 2017 Innovator Summit Semi-Finalists Announced, and work on some FamilySearch Family Tree matches.

*  Decided to work in the Wil surnames adding content and sources, using Ancestry and FSFT to help.  Didn't advance the ball much.  Checked Facebook but forgot to tweet the blog posts.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to read the paper, watch TV news, and eat dinner.  Online at 7:15 p.m. to read, write the Treasure chest post for Tuesday, then added notes and sources for some of Linda's ancestral families.

My Semi-Genealogy Weekend - 17-18 December 2016

Only 6 more shopping days before Christmas.  I think I'm done.  The biggest problem is making sure Linda doesn't hide stuff where she can't find it.  Beautiful days this weekend - sunny but cool - highs in the 60s lows in the 40s, clear blue skies overhead.

1)  Saturday, 17 December:

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up at 8:45 and we had breakfast with the church men's Bible study and spouses at Marie Callenders.  After breakfast, we went to 99 Cent Store for stuff.  Home by 11:30 a.m.

*  Had a headache, briefly online to note that Surname Saturday -- WEAVER (England to colonial New England) posted.  Went in to watch football, dozed in the recliner which made the headache worse, then watched the SDSU/Houston bowl game.  Aztecs were behind 10-0 in the first quarter, then won 34-10 with opportunity defense and enough offense.  Aztecs end up 11-3.

*  Online briefly to note that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Pauleen's Christmas Meme posted.  We left at 4 p.m. for Costco for more shopping, then to dinner at Black Angus.  Home by 6:30 p.m.  Watched TV news, read the paper.

*  Read emails and blogs during Meet the Depressed, then off to church at 9:30, and home by 12 noon after shopping at Ralphs.  Watched football and read the paper.  Chargers on at 1:25 and they led most of the game until the 4th period against the Raiders.  We lost 19-16.  Now 5-9.

*  Online at 4:30 p.m. to note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - Week of 11 to 17 December 2016 posted.  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to fix dinner, eat and watch TV news.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to note that Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of 11 to 17 December 2016 posted.  Transcribed the document and wrote the Amanuensis post.

*  Checked Facebook, checked Ancestry Hints, signed up for MwM, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 4.0 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 16 December 2016

The case of the missing Christmas Cards continues.  I mailed all of the 72 cards we finished last night, then checked them off the mailing label list.  We're missing 15!  Where did they go?  Where are they hiding?  Did Linda send them without a Christmas letter?  I don't know.  I can always send them again.

The shopping saga continues.  I recalled that Blair had pretty good clothes for Linda, so I checked and bought 3 items.  I hope they come before Christmas.  So I'm done except for stocking stuffer stuff.

It rained most of the day here - we got about an inch which should help the drought situation.  Ten more days like this and we'll be good.

*  Didn't take Linda to the Y because of the rain.  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of list, and noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 155: #220 John Underhill (1745-1816) of New Hampshire posted.  Wrote New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday. 16 December 2016.

*  Left at 10:30 a.m. for the bank and the post office for the cards, then stopped at Walgreens - nothing I want there!  No Ding Dongs.  Crap.  Was craving DDs.

*  Home by 11:30 a.m. to read, then took my nap.  Had lunch.

*  Online at 1 p.m. to read, did the Blair order, then wrote This Week's We're Related Relationships, 16 December 2016.  Worked a bit in FamilySearch Family Tree.  Did about 100 record matches in MyHeritage.  Checked Facebook and answered email.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner, watch TV and read the paper.  Online at 7 p.m. to read, write the two Saturday posts, then made an email list for the Christmas letter and sent it out.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and done I think.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 8 December 2016

Well, this day didn't go as planned!  But I got a few things accomplished.

*  Only half of the newspaper came, not the main news or sports!  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, on the phone waiting to talk to the newspaper, gave up after awhile, sent an email to them that bounced, and wrote something on their Facebook Page that never posted publicly.  Turns out there was an accident and only half the paper was deliverable.  Picked up Linda and home by 9:15 a.m.

*  Noted that 1698 Birth Record of James Hildreth (1698-1761) -- Treasure Chest Thursday #343 posted.  Answered email and added to the Best Of post.

*  Printed off the Christmas card list, and gave it to Linda to review and correct.  Edited the letter only partially.  Need to add photos.

*  Took my nap, had lunch, online to read and write Seavers in the News - Walter H. Seaver's Probate Notice.

*  Tried to order Lori's family gift on Amazon and spent an hour sorting out the shipping address problem.  Finally spoke on the phone to the help folks, who entered the address for me to click on.  Talked to Lori on the phone and got her paragraph in the letter sorted out.  Decided we wouldn't go north for Christmas.

*  Wrote 2017 Legacy Family Tree Webinar Series Announced and checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, ate dinner, and online at 6:15 p.m. to read, write the 52 Ancestors post, and worked on the CVGS Newsletter, got it done and sent to the proofers.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered more email, and checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday and Wednesday - 6-7 December 2016

I need to do some shopping.  I need to figure out what we're doing for Christmas week.  I need to start on the letter and Christmas cards.  Life interferes with genealogy.

1)  Tuesday, 6 December:

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, came home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and we went grocery shopping.  Home by 9:45 a.m.

My Long Genealogy Weekend - Friday to Monday, 2-5 December 2016

This was Linda's birthday weekend, and we had big plans that went off without a hitch, thanks to my daughters ingenuity and energy and love.

Thursday -- I picked Lori and the boys up at 9:45 p.m. for the weekend.

Friday -- Lori and the boys went out in the morning and back in the afternoon.  They went to Little Italy for dinner.  We went to dinner with Jim and Diane from Kansas, Linda's childhood friend from San Francisco.  They surprised her!

Saturday -- Jim and Diane came over to see the house and yard, we had lunch, and left us in the afternoon for a nap.  Tami and her family came.  Lori and the boys did errands, and went to the restaurant to decorate and organize the party.  We got to the restaurant at 5:30 and there were 30 people there and they sang Happy Birthday to Linda.  We took lots of photos and had good food and great fellowship.  Nice Costco cake, another round of HB, hugs and kisses all around.  At home, she opened cards and gifts.  Tami and family went home after the dinner.

Sunday -- Took Lori and the boys to the airport at 9:45, then home to watch football and Jim and Diane came at 10:30, and after Linda got home we went to Imperial Beach for lunch and a walk on the beach.  Jim and Diane left for their next stop at 2 p.m. and we watched the Chargers game.  Chargers lost 28-21.  Drat.

The blog was on automatic from Friday through Sunday.  I did write the Amanuensis post on Sunday night for Monday morning.

Monday - 5 December:

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to eat and read blogs and email, picked her up and home at 9 a.m. to join Mondays With Myrt.  Noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 27 November to 3 December 2016 posted.

*  Left at 11:40 a.m. for the dentist, got a tooth repaired, and home by 1 p.m.  Noted that Amanuensis Monday - 1751 Inventory and Account of the Estate of Nathaniel Harwood (1669-1751) of Chelmsford, Mass.  Took a nap.

*  Online at 2 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and write Book Notice: "A Genealogist's Guide to Boston, Massachusetts" Released and Table of Contents for New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Volume 170, Number 4 (Fall 2016).   Read some of the NEHGR issue.

*  Checked Facebook, answered email, sorted photos, sent a Dropbox link to Tami, and finished reading blogs.

*  Went in at 5:30 to watch news, read the paper, and eat dinner, then watched football.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, then wrote the Treasure Chest Tuesday post and found a photo for Findmypast to use.  Added to the Best Of post and wrote this post.  I'm done.  Exhausted.  sleepy.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 30 November 2016

The last day of November.  Almost time for colder weather, Santa and the reindeer, and end-of-year blog posts.  Oh yeah, Linda's birthday is Saturday, and she is going to be surprised, I hope.  More on that later.

*  Took a 30 minute nap, then answered email and added to the Best Of post.  Had lunch, and we left for the lbirary at 11:30 a.m.

*  At the library by 11:55, took my Union Case and the McKnew picture into the Auditorium at the Library for the CVGS program meeting - an heirloom show and tell.  Meeting started at 12:15 with elections for 2017-18, then into the program.  Linda presented her picture with comments from me, and then I presented the Union Case.  Photos of the heirlooms/treasures were shown on the screen.  We were home by 2 p.m.

*  Read, worked a bit in Ancestry in one of my trees, looked for blog fodder and found none.  Did find the Ontario marriage and captured it.  Checked Facebook.

These were not wonderful genealogy day.  I was lazy on Sunday and had a problem on Monday.

1)  Sunday, 27 November 2016:

*  Read email and blogs during Meet the Depressed, then stayed home from church and watched the Chargers game.  We beat Houston 21-13.  That raised my spirits a bit.  Watched some of the next game, but came online to note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 20 to 26 November 2016 posted.

My Genealogy Thanksgiving Day - 24 November 2016

This was a blog-free day until this post.  I need one every once in awhile.  It was a quiet Thanksgiving here in the Cave.  I did a lot of Seaver hunting in Ancestry and other sites.  That's fun for me.

*  Linda didn't go to the Y, so I was lazy until like 9 a.m. when I read email and blogs on the tablet, then came in on the desktop and noted that My Mayflower Connections - Soule, White, Warren, Cooke, Brewster, Hopkins and Fuller and I Am So Thankful... posted.

*  Started hunting Seaver folks on Ancestry, and added several families based on a random search, adding content and sources as I went.  Also matched about 100 folks from one Seaver line in FamilySearch Family Tree, and exchanged info on some of them.

*  Watched a bit of football, read the paper, put out the trash cans, and then back to the computer to write the 52 Ancestors post, then talked to Lori for 45 minutes.

*  Got to SDGS meeting at 8:45 a.m., got set up in the classroom and did the RootsMagic class, reviewing capabilities and answering questions, then downstairs for the 10 a.m. and 11:30 classes by Kitty Cooper.

*  Home by 12:50 p.m. to eat lunch, add to the Best Of post, answer email, note that Surname Saturday - THURSTON (England to colonial New England) and  Saturday Day Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Best Genealogy Day Ever posted.  Took my nap.

*  Online at 2:30 p.m. to read, then checked Facebook, and wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts.

*  Went in at 4:30 p.m. to watch football on TV, and news, read the paper, we had dinner, and I spent an hour online before the SDSU football game.

*  Went in at 7:30 p.m. to watch the Aztecs game, and read the new FTM magazine and then my book.  Aztecs were ahead 26-7 at halftime over Nevada.  Came in at halftime to read and write this post.  Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.
