My Genealogy Tuesday - 29 September 2015

One more day and the year 2015 is three quarters done.  It was a busy day, with some frustration (Sears customer support) and a leaking and warming refrigerator.  We solved that problem by buying a new one tonight.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Tuesday's Tip - Check Out Missouri Digital Heritage Collections and then Ancestry Adds All "Events" to the LifeStory Page and set it for later.

*  Answered email, and finalized the syllabus for the Social Media presentation.

*  Worked on a blog post but found I had already written about it.  Wasted an hour.  Researched on MyHeritage, randomly picked a relative and searched in the Newspapers, and wrote Found Death Record of a Cousin on MyHeritage, transcribing the article and adding a source.  Added more Find A Grave info too for this family.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and took a nap.  Tried to call Sears for a service appointment but got a run-around.  Went in for dinner at 5:15 p.m., then tried Sears again at 5:40 and never got an appointment because they close at 6 p.m.  Arrgggghhh.

*  Went to 7-11 for a bag of ice, we got the frig stuff into coolers and iced them.  Watched the Padres game for awhile, then we went to Sears and bought a new frig, 25% off.  Home by 9 p.m.

*  Watched the Padres game, we lost 4-3 to Brewers, so now 73-84.  Online at 10:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook and write this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 28 September 2015

I finally had a fairly full genealogy day.  No Padres game.  It was hot again today, about 85F in CV.

*  Read email and blogs and noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post #287: 1702 Will of Ezekiel Bloomfield (1653-1703) of Woodbridge, N.J. posted.

*  Joined the Mondays with Myrt Hangout on Air, and discussed Linda's church work award, the New Jersey probates going missing on Ancestry, and merging two family tree databases.

*  We left at 11 a.m. for Don's to get the Lincoln assessed, then to International Transmissions to get a quote, and were home by 12:15 p.m.  They called with a quote - not outrageous.  We said go for it.

*  Online to read, note that New or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - September 21 to 27, 2015 posted, and wrote Here Yesterday, Gone Today: the New Jersey Wills and Probates 1656-1801 Records.  Went in and took a 30 minute nap.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and checked Facebook.  Worked in Deb's tree to standardize facts, then matched to or added persons in FamilySearch Family Tree.

My Semi-Genealogy Weekend - 26 and 27 September 2015

Well, I didn't get any real genealogy research work done this weekend.  It was warm - in the high 80s both days here, only 85F in the cave right now.

1)  Saturday - 26 September 2015

*  Read email on my phone, left at 7:45 a.m. for church and the Men's breakfast for dads.  Had 24 signed up, only 16 showed, of whom 8 were the organizers.

*  Home by 12 noon to read, note that Surname Saturday -- LARKIN (England to colonial New England) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- How Many Surnames in Your Family Tree Database? posted.

*  Watched the Aztecs game, then took a short nap, and we left at 4 p.m. for dinner at El Pollo Loco.  Had car trouble, probably transmission.  Limped to the trolley station, went to the Padres game, Pads beat Snakes 3-0, and home by 9:40 p.m.with the car jerking every once in awhile.  We need to get it diagnosed on Monday.

*  Read, finished up the Best Of post, and checked Facebook.  Genealogy this day was only 2.0 hours.

2)  Sunday, 27 September 2015:

*  Read email and blogs on the phone, then went off to church at 9:40 a.m.  Linda was honored for her prayer chain work with prayer quilt, plaque and nice cake.  She was surprised.

*  Home by 11:45 a.m. to watch the rest of the Chargers game.  Lost 31-14 to the Vikings and it wasn't that close.  Looks like a long season.  Watched some of the Padres game, took a nap in the recliner, and came in at 2:45 p.m. to read, add to the new Best Of post, and note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 20 to 26 September 2015 posted.  Padres lost 4-2 to Snakes, so now 73-83 on the season.

*  Wrote Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of September 20-26, 2015, then we ate dinner, and I took Linda to Barbara's to swim.   Back home, wrote the FamilySearch post, then wrote the SDGS review.

*  Watched some football, then transcribed a will and wrote the Amanuensis post for Monday, and wrote Chula Vista Genealogical Society Program on Wednesday, 30 September on "The Civil War" and copied it to the CVGS blog.

*  Looked at the lunar eclipse, Linda came home, and I answered email and checked Facebook.  Checked Ancestry too.  Went in at 9 p.m. to watch the Charger highlights.  Waste of time.

*  Online at 9:45 p.m. to read, then wrote this post.  Genealogy today was about 5.0 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 25 September 2015

We left last Friday for the Bay area to attend my brother-in-law's 70th birthday party and then spend two days with daughter Lori in Santa Cruz.  There was a surprise at the birthday party - Paul married his longtime girlfriend (I called her my love-in-law) of 23 years.  S it became a memorable event for the family and his friends.  We had fun with three cousins of Linda's too.

We got home on Wednesday afternoon, and went to the Padres game on Thursday night after a full day of reading and blogging, so I didn't journal.  It's been warm here - a high of about 90F today.  So for Friday:

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - Week 91: #111 Mary (Metcalf) Underhill (1780-1855).

*  Edited the Social Media talk and made the syllabus.  After lunch, went to the bank and the library.

*  Home at 1 p.m. to research and write How Complete Is the Ancestry.com Wills and Probates Collection for One County?  Took a nap.

*  Wrote What Happened to the 1656-1785 New Jersey Probate Records on Ancestry.com?

*  Wrote the two Saturday posts before dinner.  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV news, ate dinner, watered the front plants, and went online to read blogs and email, and answer email, then worked in the Newby database to resolve all place names.

*  Went in at 7:20 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, and then my Grisham paperback book.  Padres lost to Arizona 6-3, so now 72-82 on the season.

*  Online at 10:15 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and then write this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

*  Worked in FamilySearch and Ancestry probates trying to find more ancestors, without success.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for McDonalds for lunch, then to the bank, then the library for a book, and John's group, and then the CVGS Computer Group.  I left early and was home by 1 p.m.

*  Read, added to the Best Of post, and wrote More on New York County Probate Records on Ancestry and FamilySearch.  Took a 30 minute nap.

* Watched an hour of the first debate, then online to read and check Facebook while listening to the first debate.

*  Went in at 5:10 p.m. to watch the second debate, and ate dinner.  Watched the Padres game, read the paper and washed dishes and read my Thor book.  Padres won 4-3 over the Dbacks, so now 69-78.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 15 September 2015

This was another stay at home day.  It was cooler, and rained pretty hard between noon and 2 p.m. and was wet outside the rest of the day.  Better in the genea-cave tonight, only 82F.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote Tuesday's Tip - Search for New York Ancestors in the New York State Historical Literature Collection and then RootsTech 2016 (February 3-6, 2016) Registration is Now Open and set it for later.

*  Read about transcriptions thinking it might be blog fodder but it got complicated.  I don't have time now.

*  Looked for more information about Thomas Bloomfield's family and found some, but it had essentially what I had.  I did add sources for the births of his children in Newbury.

*  Answered email, registered for RootsTech and checked Facebook.  Ate lunch, then wrote CeCe Moore Wins 3 of the 2015 Rockstar Genealogists Poll Categories.

*  Took a 30 minute nap, then up to write several CVGS blog posts and one for next week.

My Genealogy Sunday and Monday - 13-14 September 2015

Finally, our sports teams are on a roll.  It was about 90F in Chula Vista on Sunday, but only about 85F on Monday so we're cooling off, and may have some rain on Tuesday.

My Genealogy Friday - 11 September 2015

This was pretty much an all genealogy day until the evening when the Padres stunk.  Arggghhh.  Another warm day - 93F in the back yard this afternoon, still 87 F in the geneacave at 10 p.m. tonight.  Should cool off soon...

*  Read email and blogs, wrote 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - Week 89: #109 Mary (Palmer) Vaux (1790-ca 1845) and then 5th Grade Class Project - Postcards from Afar and set it for later and also Good News from everyStory - FREE Mobile App for iOS Devices and set it for later.

*  Checked several more states for probates and wills, but didn't find any of much value.  Searched for Natvig in Wisconsin in the census and marriage records and didn't find much.  They hid pretty well for at least 20 years.

*  Searched for Palmer records in Somerset baptisms and marriages, and didn't find anything new.  No real clue as to Mary's parents.  Perhaps they are in parish registers not yet indexed or digitized.

*  Researched Amos Underhill a bit and wrote his 52 Ancestors post for next week.

*  Researched and wrote Big Winner!!! Will of Matthias Trimmer (1722-1793) of Roxbury, New Jersey and set it for later.  Checked Facebook - got some responses for Lauren's postcards and answered email.  Went in at 4:30 p.m. for a 30 minute nap.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday and Friday - 3 and 4 September 2015

These were stay-at-home days, except for the Padres game on Thursday night.

1)  Thursday - 3 September:

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 278: 1741 Birth Record of Burgess Metcalf (1741-1816) in Medway, Mass.

*  Started my Social Media presentation - got through Facebook.  Lots more to do!

*  Add to the Best Of post, answered email, and checked Facebook.  Wrote HistoryLines Adds New Features and Content and then took a nap.

*  Online to read, worked a bit in Ancestry and the County Marriages, then added notes and osurces to the FamilySearch Family Tree.  I need to catch up with the 52 Ancestors posts for my folks in the FSFT.

*  We left at 5 p.m. for the trolley, ate at the Tin Fish, and into Petco Park by 6:40 p.m.  he game went late, Padres lead 4-0, got behind 7-4 in the 6th, and rallied to win 10-7 in the 8th.  Best game of the year.  Downside was it was a 3.5 hour game, so we got the 11 p.m. trolley home, and arrived after 11:30.

*  Read email and blogs, and off to bed at midnight.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

2)  Friday, 4 September (brother Stan's 69th birthday):

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - Week 88: #108 James Vaux (1787-1839).  Had to add quite a bit to the RootsMagic database for him.

*  Wrote ISFHWE Excellence in Writing Competition Winners Announced and set it for later, then worked for an hour on the CVGS Newsletter.  About 60% done.

*  Wrote Nominate Your Favorite Rockstar Genealogist, and then Vote! and set it for later.  Took a 90 minute nap - still feel tired.

*  Online to read, add to the Best Of post, and answer email.  Worked in Ancestry Probates for Seaver folks in California, McKnew and Pickrell folks in DC and Maryland.  Didn't find much.  My guess is that they have less than 10% of available probate records.

*  Added more notes and sources to FSFT, and checked Facebook.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:45 p.m., watched TV, and online at 6:30 p.m. to work through the recent Ancestry Hints.  Got through 38, didn't add much to the database.

*  Went in at 7:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, and then my book.  Dodgers were ahead in the 8th when I came in to read, and write this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday and Wednesday, 1 and 2 September 2015

It's been a busy two days.  I took the girls back on Tuesday morning, and then the Ancestry probate collection launched on Wednesday, and my Padres lost both games.

1)  Tuesday, 1 September:

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Post Number 9000 on Genea-Musings and then got the girls ready to go home.  Fed, dressed, packed, but we forgot the xylophone.  Drat.

*  Left at 10 a.m. for Carlsbad for lunch and to meet Tami.  Ate at the pizza place.  Charlie was there too so I got a bit of Chaz-time.  Was home by 12:20 p.m.

*  Tried to take a nap, but had a reflux...and a headache.  Checked email, added to the Best Of post, and worked in California County Marriages.  Added some folks to the tree and connected a family to an existing family.

*  Wrote Mining the California, County Marriages, 1850-1952 Collection on FamilySearch and went in at 5 p.m. for dinner and watched TV.  Watered the front yard, picked up a bit around the house too.  The girls are messy.

*  Online for a bit at 6:20 to read email and blogs.  Went in at 7:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper and then finished my Clark book.  Game went long, Rangers won 8-6 as the bullpen faltered again.  Drat.

*  Online at 10:50 p.m. to read, check Facebook and done.  Genealogy this day was 7.0 hours.

2)  Wednesday, 2 September:

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Sweethearts at the Padres Game -- Post 376 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and then worked in the Ancestry probates for awhile.  Wrote Ancestry.com Adds 170 Million Indexed U.S. Probate Record Images and set it for later.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for McDonalds for lunch, the bank, and the library for John's group, get some books, and the CVGS Bored meeting.  Yawn.  Home by 2:30 p.m. to take a nap.

*  Up at 3 p.m. to read, then worked more in the probates, and wrote NEHGS Salutes Labor Day with FREE Access to Databases on AmericanAncestors.org.  Captured three wills of New Jersey ancestors, many with wills were not there for some reason.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to eat dinner and watch TV, put the trash out.  Online at 6:30 p.m. for awhile to read and add to the Best Of post.

*  Back in at 7:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper and start my Coonts book.  Padres lost 4-3 in 10 innings to Rangers, so now 64-69 on the season.

*  Online at 10:50 to write this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.
