Genea-Journal - Saturday, 12 September 2020

Today was grandson Charlie's 6th birthday.  He went surfing, ate tacos, and received gifts, and his sister made a beautiful birthday cake for him.  I don't remember my 6th birthday, but I know I didn't go surfing, and probably was spoiled by my parents and grandparents.

Genea-Journal - Thursday, 10 September 2020

My grandson Lucas Randall is 17 years old today.  Time sure flies!  Forgot to post yesterday after the Padres game.  Oh well.  It was a medium day here - clouds/haze all day, a high of 77F, so pretty average.  The fire in the back country is contained for now.  Decided to use the new Blogger finally - wastes too much screen.  Probably great for tablets and smart phones.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post and noted that Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1771 Death Record of Mehitabel (Hartshorn) Guild of Dedham, Mass. posted.

*  Checked AncestryDNA matches, only 7 new matches, no new common ancestors or close matches.

*  Struggled to get my credit card statements - had to go through the new password stuff, it took an hour.  Crap.  Tried to nap but don't think I did.

*  Had lunch, added to the Best Of post, and wrote Seavers in The News - Fred M. Seaver Dies in 1941 in Lake Mills, Wisconsin.  Added content from other Seaver obituaries for 1939-1941 births.

Genea-Journal - Tuesday, 8 September 2020

It's been 8 days since my last post - the Padres have been winning but the games last late, so I rarely get to the computer until 10 p.m. and it's time for bed.  Lori and the boys and cats left last Saturday and we are gradually adjusting to normalcy again.  Laundry was an issue!

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, and noted that Tombstone Tuesday --John Paine (1661-1731) in Orleans Cemetery in Orleans, Mass. posted.  Added two new ThruLines to RootsMagic and notes for 5 matches on AncestryDNA.

*  Took a nap at 11 a.m.  Had lunch, added to the Best Of post, and wrote Genealogy News and Education Bytes - Tuesday, 8 September 2020.  Worked for awhile in FamilySearch Family Tree matching profiles to RootsMagic.

*  Checked Twitter and Facebook, then answered email and added to the Best Of post.   Wrote the Wordless Wednesday post.

*  Worked for awhile trying to recover all of my Downloads file folder without success.  Have about 50% of it now.  It got messed up yesterday when I clicked something and the Downloads folder was added to Dropbox on the desktop, then deleted.  Tried to recover it using the Recycle Bin but it wasn't all there.  Crap.  Who knows what I lost.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to cook dinner, watch TV news, and watched the Padres game.  Read the paper, read my book, and checked Dropbox on the laptop.  The Downloads folder was added to it on the laptop and now I was over the limit.  Padres beat the Rockies 14-5 so that was good.  Now 27-17 on the season.

*  Wrote this post, checked Facebook and done tonight.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

Ten days later -- Lori and her family (2 teen boys, 4 computers, 3 cats and a fish) are here evacuated from the Santa Cruz fire.  The highlight has been the 11 week old kitten named Mister Rex who is an athletic little guy - lots of running and jumping and chasing, then sit in a lap and purr.

Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday -- 1735 Bond and Order Distributing Estate of John Fisher (1677-1727) of Medfield, Mass. posted, and got into Mondays With Myrt.  Highlighted my 5 September webinar for OCCGS.

*  Finished reading blogs, had lunch, wrote Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 31 August 2020 and checked Twitter and Facebook.  Added to the Best Of post.  Wrote 35,230 AncestryDNA Matches Are Gone!  Reviewed AncestryDNA and MyHeritageDNA matches.

Genea-Journal - Thursday, 20 August 2020

Still no good news on the fire in Santa Cruz front - it is getting closer to Lori's neighborhood.  Been teary at times thinking about the 20 years in that house - she was married on the property by a redwood tree that is her special place.

*  Read email and blogs but it took awhile because Lori called and we talked for 30 minutes, then I checked on the fire progress.  Noted that Treasure Chest Thursday -- 1686 Birth of Abigail Smith in Medfield, Massachusetts posted.

*  Worked on the Probate Records talk that I'm giving on 5 September for Orange County via Zoom.  Got everything updated, and added a section.  Added to the Best Of post.  Checked the AncestryDNA matches (+29).

Genealogy took a back seat to fire coverage today.  Daughter Lori evacuated with her kids and pets last night from her home in the Santa Cruz mountains to a friend's house in Monterey.  The big fires in Santa Cruz County burned east up the mountains and threatens the San Lorenzo Valley where she lives.  The winds blew it southeast most of the day but shifted to the north tonight which slowed the progress.  There is no containment and no air support due to the smoke clouds.  Time will tell how this comes out - worst case is she loses her home and jobs and comes to live with us.  It is impossible to get up-to-date info anywhere for the location of active fires.

*  After an hour on the phone trying to get info on the fire to her, I quickly read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, and noted that Linda and Her Girls in About 1989 -- Post 631 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted.  Prepped for the CVGS Zoom meeting and had lunch.  Started the laundry.  Checked AncestryDNA (+9) and one new common ancestor match.

*  Opened the Zoom room for the CVGS DNA Interest Group meeting and we had 14 in attendance.  No one in the group is doing much with DNA matches.

*  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote Dear Randy: "How Can I Find Living Descendants with the Surname of a Historical Person?"  Checked Twitter and Facebook for fire news.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. for dinner, watched TV, put out the trash, finished the laundry, and watched the Padres game.  Read the paper, then my book, washed dishes,  then on the laptop for email, blogs, Facebook, and Twitter. Resolved 131 Ancestry Hints.   Padres won 6-3 over Rangers on a grand slam in the 10th inning, so now 14-12 and won 3 straight with grand slams.

*  Online at 9:45 p.m. to read, then wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

Genea-Journal - Tuesday, 18 August 2020

Much warmer today, about 90F here.  Fans going all day.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, and noted that Tombstone Tuesday -- Nathaniel Guild (1712-1796) in Guild Burial Ground, Walpole, Mass. posted.

*  Worked on the FamilySearch presentation for OCCGS on 5 September.  Need to do the Probate presentation too sometime soon.

*  Went to the grocery store at 10:20 and home by 11 a.m.  Added to the Best Of post and wrote   Genealogy News Bytes - Tuesday, 18 August 2020.  Had lunch.  Checked my AncestryDNA matches (+33) and made Note for a new ThruLine.

*  Went in at 1 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, doze in the recliner, and eventually read email, blogs, Facebook and Twitter on the laptop.  Padres won 6-4 over Rangers, so now 13-12 on the season.

*  Online to write the Wordless post, then went in for dinner at 5:30, watched TV, washed dishes, watered the yard, and took Linda for a walk.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to match profiles in Family Tree, then resolved 161 Ancestry Hints, adding content and sources to the RootsMagic tree.

*  Added to the best Of post, answered email, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

Genea-Journal - Monday, 17 August 2020

It seemed cooler today, but I didn't get out in it and forgot to go to the grocery store.  It was a better evening too with the Padres winning.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday -- 1703 Inventory of the Estate of Joseph Clark (1642-1702) of Medfield, Mass. posted, and got into Mondays With Myrt.  Contributed little.

*  Checked AncestryDNA matches (+10), then worked on WebHints in RootsMagic for awhile.  Had lunch, wrote Monday Genea-Pourri - Week Ending 17 August 2020, then took my nap.

*  Online to add to the Best Of post, checked Twitter and Facebook, then worked on more Web hints.  Should have worked on the two upcoming presentations.  Oh well - tomorrow?  Answered email, then wrote the Tombstone post.

*  Went in at 5:30 for dinner, watched news and then the Padres game.  Read the paper, my real book, checked email, blogs and Facebook on the laptop, washed dishes, watered the front plants, and then my ebook.  Padres beat Rangers 14-4 so now are 12-12 and need a winning streak.

*  Online to add to the Best Of post, answer email, check Facebook, and write this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.
