My Genealogy Wednesday - 30 December 2015

Well, we survived the invasion of the grandchildren, but just barely.  We spent Christmas Day at Tami's and brought the three kids home with us on Saturday.  We stayed home all weekend except for church on Sunday.  We took the kids to Carlsbad on Tuesday to meet their mom.  Then it was home.  I got a two hour nap and now have my sniffles/sore throat/cough back.  But I did spend all day today on the computer.

*  Read email and blogs, and added to the Best Of post.  Wrote Visiting the Giraffes at the Safari Park -- Post 393 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday.  Worked on the My Best Ancestral Genea-Discoveries of 2015 post all morning.

*  Worked on the Benchmarks post in the afternoon and set it for Friday, wrote NEHGS Offers FREE Access to Important Databases on AmericanAncestors.org during the Month of January 2016, and then took a nap.  Online at 4:15 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and answer email.

*  Went in at 5:15 to watch TV, eat dinner, read the paper, and put the trash out.  Online at 6:30 p.m. to answer more email, read, then worked in the database seeking B surname persons that needed more information.

*  Went in at 8 p.m. to watch the SDSU basketball game, the Holiday Bowl, and read my book.  Online at 9 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and add to the Best Of post.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 23 December 2015

We wrapped the kids presents today...not too bad.  Inquired of the supplier for one of the gifts that I hadn't seen come - they wrote back immediately and said look in the package for the other gift we got from them - yep, it was there.  I'm glad that the girl won't be disappointed.  Now I still need to wrap Linda's gifts.  I don't know if I need stocking stuffers or not - I guess I could get stuff ut of the cabinet for her... Rainy and misty all day.

*  Read email and blogs, and noted that Randy Visits Santa Claus -- Post 392 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted, then wrote Ancestry.com Says Content is King - a 2015 Retrospective and forgot to set it for later.

*  Left at 10:30 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds, then the bank and the library for a book.  Home by 12 noon.  Read, then took a 90 minute nap. Needed it since I stayed up until midnight last night and was up after 6 this morning.  We wrapped gifts too.

*  Online at 3 p.m. to read, then wrote Some Recent Cousin Successes.  Checked Facebook, and wrote the Surname Saturday post.  Answered email.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch TV, eat dinner, read the paper, put out the trash, and wash dishes.

*  Online at 6:40 p.m. to read, wrote the SNGF post and BOGB post and set them for the weekend, then worked in RootsMagic and FamilySearch Family Tree matching folks and standardizing names, dates, places.  Added some distant cousins to the database on the Vaux side, and added some content to some of the families.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My Non-Genealogy Week to Date

Hello, Geneaholic readers, phase one of Christmas without writing is over.  Did you miss me?

Lori came in on Saturday night with her boys, and we went shopping on Sunday morning.  That worked out well - the boys got shoes, they got their mom a gift, and we got Linda some gifts.  Home so I could watch the Chargers game, while Lori took Lucas to disc golf in Balboa Park and then Logan to a jumping place which they liked.  We went to dinner at Black Angus.  The Chargers won 30-14 over the Dolphins so now 4-10.

On Monday we started out for Balboa Park but had a problem.  We went to lunch at Lolitas/Subway, the to Imperial Beach on a nice day.  The boys went in the water, we all played disc toss and tag.  I got tired.  Home to rest, then out to dinner at Marie Callenders.  The boys watched WWE all night long.

Today, I got them to the train station by 8:45 a.m. so they could go to Tami's.  It rained all day.  I was on the computer until my nap in the afternoon, then watched Aztecs lose to Kansas tonight.  Sort of caught up on things.  Even wrote a blog post this afternoon.  Resolved 50 Ancestry Hints too.

I may check in here tomorrow, or not.

My Genealogy Weekend - 13 - 15 December 2015

I know, I missed journaling for two days...I've been sick again - Monday was terrible, and I'm still under the weather today.

1)  Sunday, 13 December 2015:

*  Read email and blogs on my phone, and stayed home to watch the Chargers game.  We lost 10-3 to the Chiefs, so now 3-10 and sinking toward the first round draft choice.  Linda had to leave the car at church because she couldn't get it started.

*  Online to note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 6 to 12 December 2015 posted, then wrote the Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of December 6 to 12, 2015 pot and set it for later.

This was a pretty good day for genealogy.  I also shopped online and got everyone but Linda taken care of.  So I have only one challenge to work on.

1)  Saturday, 5 December:

*  Read email in a hurry, left at 7:45 a.m. to go to the men's breakfast at Marie Callenders.  Home by 9:45 a.m. to read blogs, noted that Surname Saturday - PIN (England to colonial Massachusetts)  posted.  Wrote the SNGF post.

*  Home by 3:15 p.m. to take a nap, then read and answered email, noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Best Visit With Relatives posted. .  Forgot to work on the CVGS newsletter.  Watched the Aztecs football game - they beat Air force to win the Mountain West championship, now 10-3.  We ate dinner, I read the paper and my book.

*  Worked on the MyHeritage handout for Saturday - just in time.  Experimented a bit in MyHeritage also - uploaded a new GEDCOM but don't want to delete the old one because I am not done with the Record Matches.

*  Answered email, added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote My Legacy Family Tree Colors..  Took a nap.

*  Up at 4 p.m. to read, then worked in MyHeritage some more - statistics helped me find a bunch of date errors in my database.  Fixed as many as I could in RootsMagic and in MyHeritage.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, and eat dinner.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to write the Surname Saturday post, participate in GenChat on Twitter, then work in FamilySearch Family Tree adding content and standardizing places.

*  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Thursday - 3 December 2015

This was Linda's birthday, so I took some time away from the computer.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 290: 1786 Marriage Record of Humphrey White and Sybil Kirby in Dartmouth, Mass.

*  Went off at 9:30 a.m. to Costco to get flowers and look for the kitchen faucet I need to buy.  They didn't have it.  Then to the card store for a birthday card.  Home by 11 a.m.

*  Answered email, added to the Best Of post, and worked in FamilySearch Family Tree.  Researched and wrote First Look at GigaTrees Family Tree Site.  Took my nap.

*  Online to read, check Facebook, and work on the 52 Ancestors profile.  Worked on the back screen a bit.  Got a start on the CVGS newsletter - about 50% done.  We left at 5 p.m. for Black Angus to celebrate Linda's birthday.

*  Home by 6:40 p.m. to read the paper and watch news and football, then online at 7:30 p.m. to work on Ancestry Hints, adding content and sources.  Lots of interruptions to help Linda with her messages on her phone and the lost discount card, which was found two hours later.

*  Checked Facebook, answered email, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

They Spelled Genealogists Wrong...

How could they misspell "genealogists" so badly?

"Genealogists" must be too long to fit on the shirt.

I'm not sure I know any "old retired genealogists" though - most the the old genealogists I know are not "retired" from doing genealogy.
