My Genealogy Saturday - 30 June 2018

The first half of 2018 is history - what will the second half bring?  More rain for San Diego, I hope!  No fires, I hoe.  More wins for the Padres is too much to hope for.  Genealogy challenges galore would be nice.

*  Dropped Linda off, home to read, picked her up at 9 a.m. and we went to the grocery store, and home by 10 a.m.

*  Online to note that Surname Saturday -- COLE (England to colonial Massachusetts) posted, added to the Best Of post, and messed around in the Italian records from Ray.  Added one of the Italian families in San Francisco to my database, synced with Family Tree, laid down but didn't take a nap, had lunch.

*  Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - The Date Your Grandmother Was Born posted, wrote the Ancestry and FS posts, and worked some more on Italian families.  Found a birth record for one of the SF women.

*  Did some random searching and adding or updating records in the database.  Checked Facebook, answered email, added to the Best Of post.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to eat dinner, watch TV news, and water the front plants.  Got an hour more of random searching and adding data.

*  Went in at 7:10 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, read my Ted Bell book, and wash dishes.  Padres beat Pirates 4-3 after leading 4-1 after 8 innings.  Pirates had tying run on 3rd with no out and Hand closed them down.  So now 37-46 on the season, having lost 10 of 13 in the last two weeks.

*  Online at 10 p.m. to read, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

Here are the numbers from my RootsMagic database as of 30 June (with increases in the numbers from 30 April in parentheses):

*  50,299 persons (+ 416)
*  20,315  families  (+ 191)
*  162,873 events  (+ 1323)

*  5,120 Alternate Names (+ 195)
*  10,889  places  (+ 213)
*  1,716 sources (+ 47)
*  94,760  citations (+ 1232)
*  1,190 Multi-media Items (+ 7)
*  3,198 Multimedia links (- 4)
*  24,431 matched to FSFT (+ 1122)

Pretty good progress there, even though I have been working on my CVGS project, plus the Padre games take several hours almost every day.

 I'm up to 58.18% (+0.29%) for citations/events and 188.39% (+1.86%) for citations/persons.

My Genealogy Friday - 29 June 2018

This was not a big genealogy day here in the Genea-CaveTM - two trips to the dentist office, a nap, and a Padres game on TV limited the genealogy effort.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read, picked her up, and home by 9:15 a.m.  Added to the Best Of post, and noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 232: #357 Rachel (Allen) Kirby (1708-1801) of Dartmouth, Massachusetts posted.

*  Left at 10:15 a.m. for my tooth cleaning, and was home by 11:45.  Wrote New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 29 June 2018, and took my nap.

*  Ate lunch, then online at 1 p.m. to read, and wrote Genealogy News Bytes - 29 June 2018.  Checked Twitter and Facebook.

*  Linda's temporary crown came out, so we headed back to the dentist for reinstallation, and home by 3 p.m.

*  Wrote the Surname post, then answered email, including one with an Italian marriage for the grandsons' ancestors.  Cool!

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, and read the paper.

*  Online at 6 p.m. to answer the next email, then wrote the SNGF post.

*  Went in at 7:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, read my Ted Bell book, wash the dishes, and read Diane's book on my tablet.  Padres lost to Pirates 6-3, so now 36-48 on the season.

My Genealogy Thursday - 28 June 2018

My Genealogy Tuesday - 26 June 2018

This was a fairly typical summer 4th Saturday - the RootsMagic User Group, a Padre game, and some genealogy research.

*  Gathered my stuff, including the parish register information, and went off to the FamilySearch library in Mission Valley to have the SDGS RootsMagic User Group meeting.  We had only 7.  After the meeting, I worked an hour in English parish registers finding images for my CVGS project ancestors.  How fun was that!

My Genealogy Thursday - 21 June 2018

The days get shorter and the nights get longer for the next six months.  Funny how that happens.  This was not a big genealogy day because of real life and the Padres.  Oh well.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read, picked her up, and home by 9:15 a.m.

*  Noted that 1733 Marriage Record of Ichabod Kirby and Rachel Allen in Dartmouth, Mass. - Post 417 for Treasure Chest Thursday posted and reviewed the DNA matches again - added notes for about 5 on AncestryDNA.

*  We left at 10:20 a.m. for Linda's dentist appointment at 10:40.  I went to the library for an hour, then went back to the waiting room and ... waited another hour.  Had to feed the meter two more times.  She had a crown preparation done and came out saying "worst ever dental experience."  We went to Costco for lunch.

*  Home at 1:45 p.m. exhausted, but I had blog posts to do - wrote Seavers in the News - Roscoe Alan Seaver (1870-1937) of Ridgewood, N.J. and then worked on the 52 Ancestors post.  Checked Twitter and Facebook too.

*  Online to read, and write this post.  Genealogy today was 6.0 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday and Wednesday - 19-20 June 2018

Hello summer tomorrow morning.  I'm tired of the night and morning low clouds with sunshine peeking through and having to wear a jacket to the Padres night games.

1)  Tuesday, 19 June:

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read, picked her up and we went to the grocery store.  Home by 9:45 a.m.

*  Noted that Treasure Chest Tuesday -- Devier David Carringer's 1889 Birth Certificate in National City, California posted, and wrote Ancestry.com Suggests "Potential Ancestors" For your Ancestry Member Tree.  Tried to nap.

*  Wrote Searching the Mayflower Families Fifth Generation Descendants Collection on AmericanAncestors.

*  Had lunch, then watched the Padres game, read the paper, and dozed in the recliner.  Padres lost 12-4 to the As and it wasn't that close - 7-0 after 3 innings, and 10-1 after 8 innings.  So we've lost 4 straight, and slumped back to 34-42 on the season.

*  Online at 3:45 p.m. to read, checked Twitter and Facebook, and checked FSFT watchlist alerts.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to help with dinner, watched TV, put out the trash, and washed dishes.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read, picked her up and we went to her neurology appointment.  Home by 10 a.m.

*  Noted that Treasure Chest Tuesday -- Lyle L. Carringer's 1914 High School Yearbook Entry posted, added to the Best Of post and wrote How Many MyHeritage Record Matches Do I Have?

*  Took my nap, had lunch, and online at 12:45 to write Genealogy News Bytes - 12 June 2018.  Checked Twitter and Facebook.

*  Updated RootsMagic to 7.5.7, tested the updated features, and they work.  Matched a bunch of 16th century English folks and added content on both sides.

*  The Vivint guy came at 4:45 p.m., and we talked for 40 minutes.  Then watched the Padres game, ate dinner, read the paper and my book, watered the front plants, and washed dishes.  Padres beat Cardinals 4-2, so now 32-37 on the season.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to write the Wordless post, then added to the Best Of post, answered email, and TreeShared the big database - 130 or more changes.

*  Checked Facebook, and I'm done.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 11 June 2018

Drat, I missed WDYTYA? again.  I figured out at 9 p.m. that the new show is at 8 p.m. here for some reason.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read and find out that there was no Mondays with Myrt, picked her up and home by 9 a.m.

*  Added to the Best Of post, noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post #432: 1852 Deed of Paulina Mitchell to Henry A. White in Killingly, Conn. posted, and wrote Book Review: "The Wicked Trade, A Genealogical Crime Mystery" by Nathan Dylan Goodwin.

*  Sleepy, so took a nap.  Up at noon to eat lunch, then online to read email, add to the Best Of post, and then wrote Monday Genea-Pourri - 11 June 2018 and set it for later.

*  Worked on the project for awhile trying to find a death record or obituary in 1930 in Los Angeles newspapers without success.  Looked in GenealogyBank, Elephind and Newspapers.com.  Frustrating.

*  Checked Twitter and Facebook.  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game, eat dinner, do the dishes, and read the paper and then my book.  Padres lost 5-2 to Cardinals, so now 31-37 on the year.

*  Online at 8:15 to read, then wrote the Treasure Chest post, and checked Facebook again.

*  Went in at 9 p.m. to watch WDYTYA? and it was an earlier episode - Courtenay Cox, which I recall watching last year (?).  So I watched the summit and read more of my book.

*  Online at 10 p.m. to write this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Genealogy Weekend - 9-10 June 2018

I took Saturday off to visit the grandchildren, but made up for it on Sunday with a big genealogy day.

1)  Saturday, 9 June:

*  Dropped Linda off at the Y, home to read, noted that Surname Saturday -- KING (England to colonial Massachusetts) posted, then picked her up, and home by 9:15.  I took a short nap.

*  We left at 10:15 a.m. for the 102 mile trip to Huntington Beach, but stopped in Carlsbad for lunch at In 'n' Out.  Some traffic problems on I-5, and we got to Tami's at 1 p.m.  Tami took us to the play at 1:30 p.m.  Lauren was Miss Andrew and Audrey was a statue and a chimney sweep.  They did well.  Back to the house at 4 p.m.  Played a bit with Charlie, then we had dinner, and went to the park.  Back for dessert and we left at 6:40 p.m. for home, getting here at 8:15 p.m.  No traffic.

*  Checked email, added to the Best Of blog post, and noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Best Genealogy Research Find in May 2018 and Added or Updated Ancestry.com Record Collections - Week of 3 to 9 June 2018 posted.

*  Didn't journal, tired.  Genealogy on Saturday was maybe 2.5 hours.

2)  Sunday, 10 June:

*  Read email and blogs, but did n't go to church.  Took a nap at 8:30 a.m. because I didn't sleep well.

*  Noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 3 to 9 June 2018 posted, added to the Best Of post, and then worked on the CVGS project.  Had some luck finding English parish records for the new great-grandparents, and worked awhile on that.

*  The Padres played in Miami, and won 3-1, so now 31-36 on the season.  I watched last three innings, read the paper, and had lunch.

*  Online to work more on the parish records, then transcribed a will in the "To be filed" directory.  After I did that, I figured out that I did that three years ago.  Drat, I hate it when that happens.  Started transcribing a deed for the Amanuensis post.

*  Went in to help Linda with dinner.  We ate after 6 p.m., watched TV news, washed dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to write the Amanuensis post, noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 3 to 9 June 2018 posted.

*  Worked some more on the project, finding family members, baptism and marriage dates/places, etc. for several of the new families, plus adding sources.  TreeShared it so I can get Hints.  Added to the new Best Of post and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 8 June 2018

This was a busy genealogy day because we won't be home all day Saturday.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 229: #354 Benjamin Wing (1698-1782) of Dartmouth, Massachusetts posted, and picked her up.  Home by 9:15 a.m.

*  Wrote the New Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday, 8 June 2018 post and set it for later, then reviewed and updated the two July 14th presentations.  Almost done now - just need to work on the syllabi.

*  Had lunch, then wrote Genealogy News Bytes - 8 June 2018.  Sleepy, so I took a short nap.  Checked Twitter and Facebook. Wrote the two Saturday posts.

*  Went in at 4:15 to watch the Padres game, dozed a bit, talked to Lori, ate dinner, read the paper, and washed dishes.  Padres lost to Marlins 4-0.  Now 29-36 on the season.

*  Online at 7:15 p.m. to write the Ancestry and FS posts, then worked on the CVGS Newsletter, and have it 95% finished.

*  Added to the Best Of post and the Jamboree compendium post, and wrote this post.  7 blog posts today.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 7 June 2018

This was almost an all genealogy day with no nap or Padres game.  Yay!

*  Linda didn't go to the Y, so I read emails and blogs, noted that 1722 Marriage Record of Benjamin Wing and Content Tucker in Dartmouth, Mass. - Post 415 for Treasure Chest Thursday posted, and packed up and left for OASIS at 9:10 a.m.

*  Got to OASIS at 9:40 a.m. and got set up - the damn computer didn't have Adobe Reader so I had to use Powerpoint (which doesn't render my OpenOffice slides well) and they wouldn't let me use my own computer.  I used the PP and lived with it.  I gave my Genealogy - Be An Ancestry Detective talk to about 20 attendees who paid $12 to witness the revelations.

*  Home by 12:30 p.m. to read, note that Seavers in the News -- Llewellyn D. Seaver Dies in Cambridge, Mass. in 1936 posted, and then worked for awhile on my CVGS project.  Added a bunch of people to the tree and TreeShared then added events and sources.

*  Checked Twitter and Facebook, added to the Best Of post, then searched for something to blog about without success.  Started to work on the 52 Ancestors biography.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner, read the paper, wash dishes, water the front plants, and start the laundry.

*  Online at 6:20 p.m. to work on the 52 Ancestors post, wrote the i4GG Genetic Genealogy Conference Registration is Open post, and then started on the CVGS newsletter draft - got that about 50% done.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.0 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday and Wednesday - 5-6 June 2018

I didn't journal last night because we went to the Padres game.

1)  Tuesday, 5 June 2018:

*  Didn't sleep well on Monday night, and tried to take naps three times with no sleep noted.  Frustrating.

*  Checked Twitter and Facebook, and wrote the Wednesday morningp ost.

*  We left at 5 p.m. for the trolley, ate at Tin Fish, and in Petco Park by 6:40 to watch the Padres lose to the Braves 14-1.  A terrible game.  We left at 9:10 when it was 8-0 after 6 innings.  So we are now 5-5 when in attendance, and Pads are 28-35 on the season.  Home by 10, and watched election returns.  Genealogy this day was 4.0 hours.

*  Left at 10 a.m. for the library and two CVGS meetings - Family History Day and Bored meetings.  Home by 1:30 p.m.

*  Watched the Padres-Braves game, read the paper, took a recliner nap, and Pads won 3-1 over Braves, so a 7-3 home stand and 29-35 on the season.  Still 5th place but getting closer to .500.

*  Online at 4 p.m. to read, write Using the RootsMagic "Duplicate Search Merge" Tool and check Twitter and Facebook.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to eat dinner, watch TV news, wash dishes, and put out the trash.
