Another month gone by, only two to go in 2017. Life goes on here in the Genea-Manor. Things have quieted down from Linda's brother's visit and the weekend and my busy Monday. This was a fairly boring day, actually, although I did watch Finding Your Roots instead of the end of World Series Game 6.
* Dropped Linda off at 7:30, home to read email and blogs, picked her up at 9 a.m. and we went to the grocery store, and home by 9:40 a.m.
* Online to read, add to the Best Of post, and noted that Treasure Chest Tuesday - Baptism Record of Alexander Whittle (1774-1855) in Chorley, Lancashire posted. Wrote RootsMagic TreeShare, Ancestry Member Trees, and Source Citations.
* Took a 30 minute nap, then had lunch, and online at 12:45 p.m. to read and answer email. Worked on Genealogy News Bytes -- 31 October 2017 off and on.
* Checked Twitter and Facebook, and worked in the database a bit accepting Ancestry WebHints for several ancestors. Checked my DNA matches - I lost an AncestryDNA circle and one Shared Hint somehow. Worked in the database tring to find birth dates for Seavers in the Public Records database with some success.
* Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch baseball, eat dinner, read the paper and read my book on the tablet. Online at 7 p.m. to write the Treasure Chest post and do more database work.
* Went in at 7:45 p.m. to watch baseball and then Finding Your Roots. Washed dishes, and online at 9:15 p.m. to write this post, check Facebook, and add to the Best Of post. Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.
Here are the numbers from my RootsMagic database as of 31 November (with increases in the numbers from 1 October in parentheses):
* 48,892 persons (+ 131)
* 19,640 families (+ 80)
* 158,275 events (+ 467)
* 4,187 Alternate Names (+ 146)

* 1,154 Multi-media Items (+ 1)
* 3,150 Multimedia links (+ 3)
* 19,358 matched to FSFT (+ 328)
I'm up to 56.50% (+0.40%) for citations/events and 182.91% (+1.36%) for citations/persons.
Genea-Musings statistics for October (compared to stats for September):
* 91,789 page views (2,961 per day, Blogger Stats, - 65)
* 30,708 page views ( 991 per day, Statcounter, - 25)
* 23,681 unique visitors (764 per day, Statcounter, - 61)
* >2,000 readers on Feedly (+??)
* 3,082 readers via email (Feedburner) (+ 137)
Genealogy and family research are an obsession for me. Yea, verily, I am a Geneaholic!

My Genealogy Monday - 30 October 2017
I'm back to my regular schedule, sorry to go missing for six days. My wife's brother and his wife came to visit last Wednesday and I had little time to research or write through Saturday. Sunday was typical October, football, baseball, the Amanuensis post. Today:
* Dropped Linda off, home to read emails and blogs, then picked her up, and home by 9 a.m.
* Got onto the Mondays With Myrt panel and contributed to the land records, scrapbook, and early Mass. land record discussions.
* Noted that Amanuensis Monday - Probate Records for Estate of John Plimpton (1708-1756) of Medfield, Mass. - Part 1 posted, and added to the Best Of post. Answered email.
* Took a nap, had lunch, and gathered my laptop bag and off to Serra Mesa Library in San Diego.
* Got there by 1 p.m., and got set up with staff help. Gave my Genealogy - Be an Ancestor Detective" talk and had excellent questions afterward. One lady needs Chinese research help.
* Got home by 3:45 p.m. and read, checked Twitter and Facebook, then wrote Monday Genea-pourri.
* Went in at 5:15 p.m. to eat dinner and watch TV news and read the paper, then did dishes.
* Online at 6:45 p.m. to read, talked to Lori on the phone, look at Linda's 23andMe results, and wrote the Treasure Chest post. Emails to brother-in-law Paul about DNA matches.
* Tried to find some of Linda's DNA cousins in records but failed completely. Answered more email. Added to the Best Of post.
* Wrote this post. Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

Well, 74 orbits around the sun are completed, and I've started on the 75th. Had a good time tonight with friends Gil and Lynda. Gil hired me at Rohr in 1967, 50 years ago tomorrow. Lots of good memories of work, travel, fun, challenge, success, and retiring after 35 years for full time work in genealogy.

Today was Tami's birthday, tomorrow is my 74th.
1) Saturday, 21 October 2017

* Home by 1 p.m. to eat lunch, took a nap watching football, then online to note that Surname Saturday -- LNU (Elizabeth married Samuel Ayers, England (?) to New England to New Jersey) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Top 10 (or 20) Surnames in Your Family Tree posted.
* Wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts. Added to the Best Of post, and answered email. Checked Facebook.
* We left at 4:30 to pick up Linda's swim bag at Martha's, then to Lolita's for dinner and home by 5:30 p.m. Watched TV news and football
* Online for a bit to read, but went in at 7:30 p.m. to watch the Aztecs game. They got romped by Fresno State, so now 6-2 on the season.
* didn't journal. Genealogy this day was 5.5 hours.
2) Sunday, 22 October 2017:
* Read email and blogs while watching Meet the Depressed, then off to church at 9:40 and afterwards to Ralphs for groceries and home by noon. Watched football, ate lunch, tried to nap, read the paper. Watched the Chargers game - they won 21-0 over Broncos, so now 3-4.
* Online to read at 4:30, noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 15 to 21 October 2017 posted, and started the Amanuensis transcription.

* Read, then wrote this post. Genealogy today was 4.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 19 October 2017
Only 4 more days until I start my 75th orbit around the sun. This was a stay-at-home day, and RootsMagic performed beautifully all day. No freezes, TreeShare worked, etc.
* Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and went to the grocery store. Her swimsuits came today from amazon, she was surprised! Cool.
* Online at 9:45 a.m. to read, noted that 1708 Birth Record of John Plimpton (1708-1756) of Medfield, Massachusetts posted, and wrote Thomas Richman's 1848 Birth Record is Here From GRO PDF Service.
* Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and worked on DNA matches on MyHeritage and Ancestry. Took my nap.
* Had lunch, and online at 12:30 p.m. to read, then researched and wrote Seavers in the News - Augusta Seaver Dies in 1936. Got wound up with this family - figured out who the second grandchild was and added him and his mother, and found the daughter;s husband and added him too. This is not my line, I think, but still a Seaver.
* Checked Twitter and Facebook. Answered email about Marshman DNA after doing some analysis.
* Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch the baseball game, eat dinner, and read the paper. Worked in the front yard a bit cutting rose bushes and other stuff.
* Online at 6:30 p.m. to work on the 52 Ancestors post. Got it done, but decided I had better look for land and probate records. No land, but found an administration in Suffolk County, downloaded the probate court documents, summarized the records and added it to the Notes and to the 52 Ancestors post. Whew!
* Added to the Best Of post, TreeShared, checked Facebook and wrote this post. Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 18 October 2017
This was not a fun day because of the problems I had with RootsMagic.
* Dropped Linda off, home to read, picked her up and home by 9:15 a.m. Noted that RootsTech 2013, Part 2 -- Post 486 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted and wrote 2017 International Genetic Genealogy Conference is December 9-10 in San Diego.
* Opened RootsMagic and the index kept flashing on one second intervals. I could add/edit/delete, but TreeShare didn't work - it wanted me to sign in with Ancestry. It worked fine yesterday. Gremlins. Posted on Facebook in the RM group, and Renee had suggestions. Tried several, and the Program Settings keystroke seemed to work (Ctrl-Shift-U). I also ran the Database Tools but that didn't change anything. After doing the Settings, it failed again and I was back to the flashing and no TreeShare. Couldn't get out of the Ancestry Signon screen. Rebooted the computer. Did the Program Settings again. Started a new tree just to test things. That worked. Opened my big tree and had to do the settings again. It still was using 25% of the CPU, which it never does, so I left it alone for awhile.
* Went off to the library to get a book and sit in on John's group. Home by 12:30. Took a nap, then had lunch.
* At 1:30 I tried RM again, and everything seemed to work fine. TreeShare worked, no flashing index, no CPU hog. Gremlins scared off? Who knows. Worked for an hour in FamilySearch Family Tree matching and adding/revising data both ways on the White cousins.
* Wrote RootsMagic WebHints for Henry Arnold White (1824-1885). Checked Twitter and Facebook.
* Went in at 5:15 p.m. to eat dinner, read the paper, and watch TV news and then baseball.
* Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, write the Treasure Chest post, and then TreeShared flawlessly. Whew. Back to the TV to watch the end of the NL game, and online at 9:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and write this post. Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

* Went in at 5 p.m. to watch baseball, eat dinner, and read the paper. Online at 7 p.m. to write the 52 Ancestor post, then worked on the CVGS Newsletter. got it 50% done - need to resize photos. Talked to Scott.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 4 October 2017
I didn't get much done today...tired a lot now. And now the black ink on the printer doesn't work with a new cartridge. Did the clean print head and it still doesn't work. Drat.
* Dropped Linda off, home to read, picked her up, and home by 9:15. Noted that Charlie Brown, Lucy and Snoopy in 2013 -- Post 484 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted and wrote San Diego Genealogy Day: Saturday, 21 October 2017 at San Diego History Center.
* Added to the Best Of post, answered email, tried to print off the CVGS board stuff and it failed. Frustrated, so I rested my eyes for 30 minutes.
* Left at 11:10 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds, then to the library to talk to John and then the CVGS Bored meeting. Home by 1:45 p.m.
* Read email and blogs, then took a 30 minute nap. Online at 3 p.m. to write Family History Day at the Chula Vista Public Library a Success!, then checked Twitter and Facebook.
* Went in at 5:30 p.m. for dinner, watched the Wild Card game, put out the trash and washed dishes.
* Online at 7 p.m. to read, then wrote the Treasure Chest post and answered email. Went back in to watch the end of the game. Dbacks will play the Dodgers.
* Online at 9:15 to add to the Best Of post, and write this post. Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 3 October 2017
I finally got another task finished, at least until I did more research! Thi was an all-genealogy day except for the usual interruptions.
* Dropped Linda off, home to read, picked her up, and we went to the grocery store. Home by 9:40 a.m. to read, note that Treasure Chest Tuesday -- 1916 Voter Registration for Paul and Edna Schaffner in San Francisco posted, and updated Added or Updated Record Collections on MyHeritage - August and September 2017 and set it for later. Added to the Best Of post too.
* Sleepy so took my nap early. Up at noon to eat lunch, then online to read, answer email, and then researched and wrote Genealogy News Bytes - 3 October 2017.
* Worked in AncestryDNA a bit, then revised the presentation and handout for the SDGS Genealogy Day on 21 October. Decided I'd better see if there have been any new records for the McKnew/Whittle/Morley folks and actually found a death record for Rachel (Morley) Whittle Spencer in 1861 through an Ancestry Photo Hint! I added the record to the database, and need to update the presentation again.
* Checked Twitter and Facebook, then worked some in FamilySearch Family Tree matching RootsMagic persons. Found some new data and added it to the database with sources.
* Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner, and we watched the Yankees/Twins game, I read the paper, and washed dishes.
* Came in at 7 p.m. to read email and blogs, then wrote the Wordless Wednesday post. Went back to the TV at 8 p.m. to watch Finding Your Roots. Interesting footage and stories, and a fantastic ending, although they didn't say what the magnitude of the DNA match was.
* Watched end of the baseball game, then online to write this post, add to the Best Of post, and I will TreeShare the database. Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 2 October 2017
It wasn't as much of a genealogy day as I hoped it would be. Life intervenes sometimes, and I was lazy too. Frustrated and dismayed by the Las Vegas shooter too - I still think it was an ISIS thing. We'll see.
* Dropped Linda off, home to read, picked her up at 8:50 a.m. and home by 9. I got onto Mondays With Myrt after 10 minutes of trying, and even had a brief discussion about the CVGS Family History Day on Saturday.
* Added to the Best Of post after the Hangout, then took Linda to get her hair done at 11 a.m. We had lunch at Costco, and home by 11:45 a.m. Read email, then took a nap.
* Online at 1 p.m. to read, noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 24 to 30 September 2017 and Amanuensis Monday - Probate Records for Estate of John Garnsey (1648-1722) of Rehoboth, Mass. - Part 3 posted.
* Worked in the Massachusetts Vital Records and added content and sources for 20 more entries. Wrote Mining the "Massachusetts State Vital Records, 1841-1920" Collection on FamilySearch.
* Checked Twitter and Facebook. Went in at 5:15 p.m. to eat dinner, watch TV and read the paper. Watched the football game, and walked up and down the block.
* Online at 7 p.m. to read, wrote the Treasure Chest post, added to the Best Of post, and answered email. Went in at 9 p.m. to watch TV news for an hour and read my book.
* Online at 10 p.m. to read, write this post, and I'm done. Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Weekend - 30 September - 1 October 2017
Not much genealogy search or research was done this weekend. But life goes on here in Genea-land.
1) Saturday, 30 September 2017
* Dropped Linda off, home to read, picked her up, and I messed around in AncestryDNA until 9:45.
* Grabbed the laptop and left at 9:45 a.m. for the library, where CVGS was doing a Family History Day. At 10:30, I did my Keynote talk with all of 10-15 folks in the auditorium. Embarrassing. Frustrating.
* Walked around the different stations visiting with the volunteers and taking photos. Back to the auditorium for the WDYTYA program and there were only about 40 folks there, including at least 12 from the family. Came home after 1:15 p.m.
* Watched football, napped for an hour, came online to read and noted that Surname Saturday - BRADT (Norway to colonial New York) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Good Genealogy Luck posted. Wrote the Ancestry and FS posts.
* Linda came home from ride with Barbara and we had dinner, watched TV news, and read the paper. Online at 6:30 to TreeShare and finish up the Best Of post.
* Went in at 7:30 p.m. to watch the Aztecs game. They won 34-28 but it was close. Now 5-0. Got to bed after 11:30 and couldn't sleep. Genealogy this day was 5.0 hours.
2) Sunday, 1 October 2017
* Slept in until 7:30, best night in awhile. Read email and blogs during Meet the Depressed, then off to church at 9:45 a.m. After church, we went to the 99 Cent Store. Got glue pad mouse traps.
* Home by 12:15 p.m. to read the paper, and watch football. Had lunch. Watched the first quarter of the Chargers game.
* We left at 1:45 p.m. for Ceasar's house for the CVGS After Party. Watched the rest of the game there. Had more lunch/dinner, and talked to folks. Home by 5:30 p.m.
* Had dessert, watched TV news, then online at 6 p.m. to read, answer email, noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 24 to 30 September 2017 and Added or Updated Ancestry.com Databases - Week of 24 to 30 September 2017 posted.
* Transcribed a probate record and wrote the Amanuensis post. Worked for over an hour in Ancestry Hints for the big tree - resolved about 140 Hints, adding content and sources. Checked Facebook.
