My Genealogy Monday - 31 July 2017

212 days, seven months down, only 4 months until Christmas.  Time marches on with or without us.  My day:

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and home by 9:15 a.m.

*  Noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 23 to 29 July 2017 posted, and wrote three posts on the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog.

*  Took my nap, had lunch, and online at 12:30 p.m. to note that Amanuensis Monday - 1791 Deed of Deborah Gates to Isaac Whitman for Land in Stow, Massachusetts posted and wrote In-Depth Genealogist Introduces their Newest Venture: IDG ACADEMY and Gina Comments on my Ancestry .com Quirk Post.

*  Answered email, added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook and Twitter.  TreeShared my RoortsMagic file, then worked on content and sources from Hints.  It was slow, so rebooted, and it was still slow probably due to AT&T system problems in the late afternoon.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to pull back yard weeds, and then watched TV news, ate dinner, did the dishes and watered the front plants.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to write the Treasure Chest post, talked to Lori, and then worked in Ancestry Hints adding content and sources for 90 minutes.  Did about 150 of them.  Lots to do.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.0 hours,

My Genealogy Weekend - 29-30 July 2017

This was not a typical July genealogy weekend.

1)  Saturday, 29 July:

*  Dropped Linda off, home to read, picked her up at 9:10 and we visited Costco for the necessaries.  No chicken though.

*  Home by 10 a.m. to read, note that Surname Saturday -- BOLLES (England to colonial New England) posted and write the SNGF post.

*  Rested my eyes for 30 minutes, then had lunch and we left for the CVGS program at 12:15 p.m. at the library.  Got there, enjoyed the presentation, and home by 3:30 p.m.

*  Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your Genea-Bucket List posted.

*  We left before 4 p.m. to eat at El Pollo Loco, on the trolley at 4:50 and in Petco Park by 5:20 p.m.  Padres game started at 5:40 against the Pirates.   Pads won 4-2 to go to 47-57, and we are now 6-7 when in attendance.  Watched the Fireworks show.

*  Home by 10 p.m. to read, check Facebook, add to the Best Of post and answer email.    Genealogy this day was maybe 4.5 hours.

2)  Sunday, 30 July:

*  Read email and blogs while watching Meet the Depressed, then off to church at 9:30.  Home by 11:15 to read, and wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts.  Ate lunch, added to the new Best Of post.  Noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 23 to 29 July 2017 posted.

*  Went in at 1:30 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, take a nap in the recliner.  Pads lost 7-1 to Pirates, so now 47-58 on the season.  Better than I had hoped for at this point, actually.

*  Game over at 4, took Linda to swim at Barbara's, home to transcribe the deed, ate dinner, picked Linda up, and home after 6 p.m.

*  Noted that Added or Updated Ancestry.com Databases - Week of 23 to 29 July 2017 posted, and wrote the Amanuensis post.

*  Started in on the Hints from the Big Tree on Ancestry, adding content and sources to RootsMagic for the recently added Hildreth persons.  Got through about 150 Hints.  Lots more to do.  Need to do this in smaller segments - add 40 people, then get their Hints.  Gotta keep up with the progress on all fronts.

*  Checked Facebook, answered email, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.

Three Genealogy Days in July

I haven't journaled the last two nights because the Padres games with the Giants have gone long and I went to bed instead.  But they were decent genealogy days before the evening.

*  Went in at 7:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper and read my book. Padres won 12-9 in 11 innings over the Giants.  I went to bed in the 10th inning.  The game was over after midnight.  Pads now 42-54 on the season.  Did not journal.  Genealogy this day was 8.0 hours.

3)  Saturday, 22 July:

*  Dropped Linda, home to read, picked her up and home by 9:10 a.m.  Got the wash out of the dryer.

*  Gathered my flash drive and laptop and left for the San Diego FSL to teach my SDGS RootsMagic User Group.  I concentrated on RootsMagic TreeShare and WebHints.  We had 13 in the class, including two of my OASIS students.  The new features were challenging for most of them.  I hope I clarified things...we had to move to another room because the projector wasn't working.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 19 July 2017

Readers have probably been wondering where I've been and why I haven't been journaling.  Here's why:

*  We left Friday for Monte Rio and Deb's birthday party on Saturday.  The motel in Monte Rio had no internet connection or wireless service.  Dead in the room - had to watch TV and read a book.

*  Home on Sunday on time on Southwest.  Got on the computer and the Internet was wonky.  Signal lights on the modem fluctuated.  There were some steady periods, but really frustrating!  Was able to get the blog posts published.

*  Called AT&T on Monday and they sent out a technician in the afternoon.  He said problem was between my house and the phone box down the road.  Said he would put a maintenance tag on it.  Able to get posts done but no research.

*  On Tuesday, there was no progress.  I got the laptop out and used the tablet for a hot spot and was able to blog and read, but no research.

*  On Wednesday, it was still wonky but being on the laptop let me work.  Called AT&T again and a guy showed up in the afternoon and went hunting for the problem.  He may have found it - got a phone call from him, and it's been steady since 5 p.m.

*  Downloaded FTM 2017 to both computers, and started checking it out a bit.

*  On the laptop, worked a bit on the Lanphear problem - gathered data from FSFT and added to the working database.  I will use that for my RootsMagic Users Group meeting on Saturday as the example.

*  Actually did some search work tonight - resolved 218 Ancestry Hints and started resolving the RM to AMT data.

*  Other than the above, the Padres won 2 of 3 from the Giants and lost 3 of 3 to the Rockies, so now 40-54 on the season.

That's my report...

My Genealogy Saturday - 8 July 2017

This was the day of my SDGS presentations.  And my Padres won.  Win-win.

*  Dropped Linda off, home to read email and blogs and practice my Citation talk (yes, lastm inute!), picked her up and home by 9 a.m.

*  I left at 9:10 a.m. for the SDGS meeting - got there at 9:35 and got set up.  Easy.  Talked to folks.

*  Meeting started at 10 a.m. with announcements, then I started at about 10:15.  Near the end of the first talk, the screen on the laptop acted funny, then went dark, then the Windows Update screen came on and Windows updated on me while everybody watched.  I continued from the handout.  After about ten minutes it logged on again and I finished the talk.  Then it was  ice cream social time, so I went out and got my three scoops with lots of stuff (missed the whipped cream somehow) and gobbled it down while talking to friends.  Then at 11:30 it was back inside for the raffle and then I did my second talk.  The audience seemed to like it, who knows.

*  Sat down for awhile and talked to friends, then left at 12:45 and got home just in time to watch the Padres game.  I dozed through the first four innings, then read the paper.  Padres beat Phillies 2-1 so now 38-49 on the season, and 20-15 in the last 35 games.

*  Online at 4 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, noted that Surname Saturday - LNU (married to Charles Morgan in colonial New York) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- What Ancestor Had the Most Children? posted, and checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to eat dinner, then out front to water the plants and trim the rose bush back.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts, and worked on the CVGS Newsletter.  It's 90% done now, just need photos from Diane and she sent them.

*  Checked Facebook, wrote July 8th Family Tree Maker 2017 Update, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

*  Answered email, and followed an Auble rabbit trail and added several new families.  Got the laptop out and put the two SDGS talks on it for Saturday.  Took my nap.

*  Up at 12:30 to eat lunch, then worked on the Genealogy News Bytes - 7 July 2017 post.

*  Started in on the CVGS Newsletter - got it about 60% done.  I need time on it on Saturday.  Had to reboot for some reason - everything stopped.

*  Checked Twitter and Facebook.  Went in at 4:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game.  We won 4-3 over Phillies in a good game with a 90 minute rain delay.  Now 36-49 on the season, and 19-15 in the last 34 games.  Had dinner, read the paper, started my Patterson book, took my walk, and washed dishes.

This was not a big genealogy research day again, thanks to my OASIS class and the Padres game.  Warmer today, probably around 85F this afternoon.

*  Dropped Linda off, home to read email and blogs, picked her up at 8:45 and home by 9 p.m.

*  Read, noted that 1706 Marriage of William Whitney and Martha Peirce in Weston, Mass. - Post #372 of Treasure Chest Thursday posted, packed up the laptop and my flash drive.

*  Left at 9:15 for Grossmont Center and the new OASIS office.  Google Maps had them in the wrong place.  Found it, got set up (new computer, new big screen TV, nice setup, worked well, but had to download Adobe Reader).  Have 7 in the class, and it went fairly well.  They all seem enthusiastic and interested.

*  Home by 1 p.m., had lunch, read email and blogs, and dozed at the desk for awhile.  Wrote Dear Randy: How Best to Save Your Genealogy Work? and checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 4:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game, eat dinner, read the paper, put out the trash, read my book, and wash dishes.  Padres lost to Indians 11-2, so now 35-49 on the season.

*  Online at 7:15 p.m. to read, send handout to the class members, and wrote the 52 Ancestors post.  Checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.  genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 5 July 2017

This wasn't a big genealogy day for me - too many other things to do.  Tomorrow is going to be the same, I think.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y at 7:30, home to read email and blogs and talked to Tami, picked Linda up at 9 a.m. and home by 9:15.

*  Noted that Mount San Jacinto in January 2013, Part 3 -- Post 471 for (Not So) Wordless Wednesday posted and added to the Best Of post.  Took a 40 minute nap.

*  Awake at 11 a.m. to read, then gathered my stuff and left for lunch at McDonalds and then  the library for the CVGS Board meeting.  Only an hour!  Home by 1:15 p.m.

*  Online to read, then noted that San Diego Genealogical Society Ice Cream Social on Saturday, 8 July posted, and wrote Using RootsMagic/Ancestry WebHints - Part 2.

*  Checked Twitter and Facebook, answered email, added to the Best Of post.

*  Went in at 4:05 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, eat dinner, read my book and wash dishes.  Padres beat the Indians 6-2.  Another good game.  Now 35-48 on the season.

*  Online at 7:45 p.m. to read, then wrote the Treasure Chest post and checked Facebook.  Answered email and added to the Best Of post.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 4 July 2017

It was Independence Day, and it was a pretty good genealogy day for me.  No frustrations, but then I didn't work with FTM.

*  We slept in until 7 a.m., so read email and blogs, and noted that 241 Years and Counting - Happy Birthday, U.S.A. and Treasure Chest Tuesday -- 1879 Death Notice for John C. Paul (1824-1879) in San Francisco, Calif. posted.  Wrote My Twile Family Tree Infographic - American Style.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y at 9:30 a.m., home to work a bit, picked her up at 11 and home by 11:15 a.m.  Added to the Best Of post and took my nap.

*  Had lunch at 12:30, then worked on the Genealogy News Bytes - 4 July 2017 post.

*  TreeShared my changed persons, and worked a bit in Ancestry searching for data on RootsMagic persons.  Wrote two posts for Wednesday.  Checked Twitter and Facebook.

*  Went in at 4:10 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, eat dinner, read books and wash dishes.  Padres won 1-0 over Indians in probably the best game of the year.  Now 35-48 on the season.

*  Online at 7:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and answer email.

*  We left at 8:15 p.m. for church to see the San Diego Country Club fireworks.  They started at 8:40 and lasted 20 minutes.  When we got home, we went out in the backyard and saw fireworks afar from five different sites.

*  Online at 9;#0 to read, check Facebook and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.0 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 3 July 2017

This was an almost all-day genealogy day, but I was frustrated by the computer.

*  Dropped Linda off, home to read email and blogs, picked her up and we went to Ralph's for meat.  Home by 9:40 a.m.

*  Noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 25 June to 1 July 2017 posted, and added to the Best Of post.

*  Computer froze up while in FTM so rebooted.  Worked a bit in RootsMagic - synced the changed people with the AMT, and worked a bit more in WebHints.

*  Noted that Amanuensis Monday - Deed Records for Joseph Seaver (1672-1754) in Roxbury, Massachusetts - Part 2 posted and wrote Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) Now Accepting Applications for APG Young Professional Scholarship.

*  Decided to go get the smog check done on the Lincoln - drove right in and out and home in 45 minutes door to door.  Had to have the Test only option this time.  Took my nap.

*  Up at 12:45 p.m., ate lunch and online at 1 p.m.  Wrote Using RootsMagic/Ancestry WebHints - Part 1.

*  Figured out I could accept the Ancestry Hints without incorporating them into RootsMagic.  Did some of the Carringers.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and tried FTM sync again.  It finished and said to wait for media to upload.  I waited an hour with no progress.  Canceled it.  Checked Twitter and Facebook. worked a bit in RootsMagic with folks without birth dates, but had to shut it down twice because it hung up.  Frustrating.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner, watched TV news, read the paper, and washed dishes.

*  Online at 6:45 p.m. to read, wrote two posts for Tuesday, and then worked more in RootsMagic people searching on Ancestry but again RM froze up.  Started it again, worked for awhile in FSFT and it froze up again.  More frustrating.

*  Checkedc Facebook and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Weekend - 1-2 July 2017

July is off to a relatively cool start - it probably will heat up soon here in Chula Vista by the bay.

1)  Saturday, 1 July 2017

*  Dropped Linda off, went to my breakfast at Marie Callenders, picked her up and we went grocery shopping at Ralphs.  Home by 10 a.m.

*  Noted that Surname Saturday -- JANS (Holland to colonial New York) posted and wrote The Canada 150 Challenge - My Ancestors Living in Canada in 1867.  Added to the Best Of post.

*  Worked a bit more in RootsMagic/Ancestry WebHints, then dozed at my desk.

*  Went in to grab lunch, then online to work more on WebHints and TreeShare.  Noted that  Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Fourth of July Memories posted.  Wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts.

*  Worked a bit in Ancestry making more Hints, then worked on finding records for RootsMagic folks, adding content and sources to the database.

*  Worked in RootsMagic matching with FamilySearch Family Tree and finding FS records.  Checked my AncestryDNA matches and added more notes to the Shared Matches.

*  We left at 4 p.m. to go to Dollar Tree for stuff, then to In 'n' Out for dinner, and the trolley to go to the Padres game.  40,000 at Petco for the Dodger game, we lost 8-0.  Seemed like 3/4 of the fans rooted for the Dodgers.  Hate when that happens.  We left after 8 innings and were home by 11 p.m.

*  I didn't journal.  Genealogy this day was 4.5 hours.

2)  Sunday, 2 July:

*  Read email while watching Meet the Depressed.  Off to church at 9:30 a.m. and home by 11:30.

*  Read blogs, updated the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 25 June to 1 July 2017 post.  Transcribed the deed for amanuensis Monday.

*  Went in at 1:15 p.m. to eat lunch, read the paper, dozed a bit, and watched the Padres beat the Dodgers 5-3 in a 3.5 hour game.  So we're 2-7 against the Dodgers and 34-48 overall.

*  We went to Lolita's for dinner, and home by 6:15 p.m.  Noted that Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of 25 June to 1 July 2017 posted.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email, and wrote the Amanuensis post.  Worked with FTM.  Took my walk up and down the block.

*  Searched through RootsMagic for people to search for, and found several Seaver families to add content and sources for.  Also did some TreeShare uploads to Ancestry.

*  Checked Facebook and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 4.5 hours.
