Genealogy Journal - 04/18/09

This was a typical Saturday in spring and summer at the Genea-Manor. Genealogy in the morning, a Padre game and genealogy in the evening. Some poetry thrown in for good luck!

I was up early and read my email and blogs while downloading and installing RootsMagic 4 on the laptop. I scheduled posting of Finding the Devier Lamphear ==> Smith Name Change Record for this morning. I got cleaned up and left at 8:20 a.m. for the CGSSD meeting at UCSD in La Jolla (a 22 mile trip), taking the laptop. I attended the RootsMagic class led by Pam Journey. Of the 11 in attendance, 10 had downloaded RM 4. Pam demonstrated some changes from RM 3 and some of the new features. At 10:15, the entire group of about 60 heard announcements (I got to make an announcement about the CVGS seminar next Saturday) and then enjoyed Dorothy Miller's talk on "Spring Cleaning for Genealogists." I will write a summary soon!

I was home by 12:45, and after reading email, blogs, Twitter and Facebook I wrote and posted Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Poetry and Genealogy. This was fun! I know that there's a Padres game on Sunday morning, so I wrote another RootsMagic post and scheduled it for the morning so that my readers have something new to ponder. At 3:30, I went in to watch the news, read the paper, take a nap, and watch the Padres game. We went to dinner at Oggi's Pizza at 5 p.m. and were home by 6.30 to watch the end of the game (the Pads won it with 4 in the 9th inning, 8-5. Go Padres!!).

After the game, I came in at 7:30 p.m. and read everything, then worked on my presentation for awhile, searched for the Dodge County court records and newspapers, then wrote the Best of the Genea-blogs post and scheduled it for early afternoon on Sunday.

Genealogy today was 8.0 hours - 0.5 hour doing email, 0.5 hour reading blogs, 2.5 hours writing blog posts, 3.0 hours at the CGSSD meeting, 1.0 hour on the presentation, and 0.5 hour working in RootsMagic 4.
