Genealogy Journal - 08/28/08

Almost a purely genealogy day...so close to a perfect day!

I was up early, but didn't read email or blogs until 8:30, and had the windows guy come at 8:45 a.m. I posted Using FamilyTreeMaker 2008 - Post 20: Adding Media I and then worked for an hour or so on FTM 2008 Web Searches in preparation for the next Using post. Some FTM folks called at 10 a.m. for a conversation about FTM 2009 and they promised to let me know when I could talk about what they told me. I checked Facebook, did some more work in FTM 2008 on Web Searches, checked TGN traffic stats, and had lunch. I posted Traffic Statistics for TGN domains and Family Tree Magazine Launches New Website, then decided I'd better study the TGSG article for tonight's chat.

I worked at least two hours on the article, reading it, answering my stock questions about it, and printing the summary. At 5 p.m., I went in to watch the news, eat dinner, and water the plants. I came back at 6 p.m. and posted FamilyTreeMaker 2009 Improvements. The chat started at 7 p.m. and I lead the discussion because Christy had a car problem, and we five TGSGers chatted on IM for over an hour. I went in to hear the wrapup of Obama's speech, and came back determined to burn down some more email. I chose an older email from Nancy who has a Bresee connection. I went on Rootsweb WorldConnect and found a possible connection between she and I, if the data there is correct. I emailed her. Then I wrote this post.

Genealogy today was 10.0 hours - 0.5 hour doing email, 0.5 hour reading blogs, 0.5 hour on Facebook, 2.0 hours preparing and writing blog posts, 2.5 hours on FTM 2008/2009, 3.0 hours on the TGSG article and chat, and 1.0 hour doing research on Bresee.
