Genealogy Journal - 04/04/08

Genealogy work today was hit and miss. I was on the computer at 8:30 a.m., and read my email and blogs. I posted "Genealogy Link Site Traffic" on Genea-Musings. Then I worked on writing posts for the next week while we're gone to Santa Cruz. At 10:30, I gathered the papers and went off to the copy shop to copy the handouts for the seminar, then took my income taxes to the post office, and had lunch at Costco before picking up my friend George for our weekly walk on the bayfront. I stopped by the library on the way home.

I checked my email and blogs again, and posted the "45th Carnival of Genealogy is Posted - Cars!" Then I worked on more blog posts for next week. I did a bit of research for the seminar research problems too. Linda came home with dinner at 5:15 p.m., so I ate and came back to the computer at about 6:15. I posted "Ranked Matches in the Ancestry.com New Search" on Genea-Musings. I watered the plants, then settled down to watch the Padres game with my laptop. I read the blogs, read my political news sites and reviewed/edited my presentation for the last time while watching the game (Pads lost to Dodgers, 7-1). I transferred the revised file to my flash drive, and then came to the desktop and copied it onto that computer too. I got all of my "stuff" for the seminar tomorrow either in the car or in my laptop case. I'm ready!

Genealogy today was 8.0 hours - 1.0 hour reading and writing emails, 1.0 hour reading blogs, 3.0 hours writing blog posts, 2.0 hours researching problems, and 1.0 hour working on my presentation. Enough!

I have a big day tomorrow - I have a breakfast at 8 a.m., and the seminar is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. I'll rush home and we leave on the 6:45 p.m. flight to San Jose, where we'll pick up my daughter's car and drive to Santa Cruz. We'll be there for over a week - I come home on Sunday, 4/13. This blog will probably be dormant until 4/14, although I'll be posting on Genea-Musings on a daily basis.

Randy, I'm a relative!

I am a descendant of Julia White and Thomas Richmond via Grace Richmond Shaw. She was my great grandmother and I was named after her. She had a son, Fred Shaw Jr. who married Edith Greenough and had my mother Sandra Shaw who married my father, Theodore Cole. I am Laura Grace Cole.(Grace after Grace Richmond, the sister to your grandmother Alma Bessie). I have several photos and letters from Grace. I LOVED the photo of the family you had on your website. So neat.

Grace married Fred Shaw Sr. from Hilperton England - the same town the Richmonds came from! I'm going there this summer to find info. on the Shaws as we know nothing.

Actually, we knew almost nothing other than names about the Richmond/Rich/Marsman/Hill lines until you posted. My family is very grateful. I have been searching for 2 years now and finally I found you!

I am wanting to verify the Mayflower lineage through Julia White. I see proof between Humphrey White and Sybil Kirby, but if you can help me prove Jonathan White to Miranda Wade as you have already provided me the link between Henry White and Amy Oatly, then I can do it for my family! I count 7 passengers, Richard Warren, two times through two daughters (Richard Warren through daughter Elizabeth and again through daughter Sarah; Wm. White, Sylvanus White, Sarah Basset; Francis Cooke, John cooke and George Soule). WOW!

Do you also know if the Abigail Wing line is worthwhile? She was married to Jonathan White, father to Humphrey white (not son of)? I'm told it is. Please reply.

I am so happy to have found you and SO GRATEFUL for your work as finding you has saved me 100's+ hours, I'm sure.

I live in Boulder CO, I'm 42, married and have 2 boys 10,7. My number is 303.358.9371 and my email is teamspice @comcast.net

Thank you for your work!
