My Geneaholic Monday - 16 February 2015

We got home on Sunday afternoon, and I spent the evening moving the photos to the desktop and organizing them into research and RootsTech files.  Need to back them up too.   Monday was a very busy day because of all of the RootsTech leftovers, although I did some research in the evening.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Blog Compendium post.

*  Joined Mondays With Myrt with my usual banter, this time about RootsTech conference.  Noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 256: 1812 Deed of Nathan Gates to John Peirce Jr. posted.

*  Found the article by Amy, and copied it and posted "She's my seventh cousin!" - I was quoted in the Daily Herald newspaper.  Wrote New or Updated FamilySearch Record Collections - February 9-15, 2015.

*  Answered email, and updated the blog compendium again.  Figured out how to upload a photo archive, so created an Event, invited folks, and populated it with 80 RootsTech photos.  Pretty good response - took about 90 minutes to do it.  Posted on Facebook about it too.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to read the paper, eat dinner, watch TV news, and wash dishes.

*  Online at 6:45 p.m. to read email, update the blog compendium again, etc.  Went down a rabbit trail and added some Seaver folks to the database from a BillionGraves memorial.

*  worked in FamilySearch Family Tree in the Seaver folks, resolved several large Seaver families.  Still more to do!

*  Checked Facebook and Google+ and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 12.0 hours.

My Geneaholic Monday - 9 February 2015

One more getup and off we go to RootsTech.  I didn't get a lot done today, but I had some genea-fun.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 255: 1803 Quitclaim Deed of Nathan Gates to Heirs of Simon Gates posted.

*  Joined the Mondays With Myrt, broadcasting from the FHL.  didn't contribute much.

*  Printed off the CVGS newsletter and the mailing list.  Noted that New or Updated FamilySearch Record Collections - February 2-8, 2015 posted.  Wrote a post for Tuesday noontime.

*  Went off at 1 p.m. to publish and mail the newsletter.  Got stuck at the bank behind a money truck, wasted 30 minutes.

*  Home by 2:15 p.m. to read, then wrote Outside the Box in the RootsTech 2015 Expo Hall.  Checked Facebook, wrote another post for later in the week.  Answered email. Printed some syllabus items.   Sleepy.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, take a nap, and we ate dinner.  I packed.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to write a post for Tuesday, then read blogs, and searched in Ancestry and FamilyTreeNow for living people in my database.  Added some content and sources to the database.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.5 hours.

My Semi-Geneaholic Sunday - 8 February 2015

Every Sunday seems to be semi-geneaholic, life intervenes sometimes.  Two more getups to RootsTech.  At least the weather in SLC looks dry and relatively warm (highs in the 50s, lows in the 30s), really can't complain.

*  Read email and blogs and finished up the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 1 to 7 February 2015 post.

*  Off to church at 9:30 a.m., stopped at the store on the way home, and watched TV while eating lunch.  Watched the golf tournament until about 1:30 with the laptop on and tryng to make the iCloud pictures show up on the laptop.  Still haven't made that work.  Which causes a big problem in SLC, I'll have to mail the pix to myself to put them on the blog.  Drat.

*  Online at 1:30 for awhile, finished up the CVGS newsletter and emailed it to the members.  Will publish the paper copies on Monday.

*  Went in at 3:30 to watch golf, and then the Aztecs game.  They lost to Boise State.  Drat.  We went to dinner at Outback at 5:10 p.m., and home by 7 p.m.

*  Read, answered email, and then did about 20 World War I Draft Registrations entries from Ancestry Hints.  Looked at last year's RootsTech posts for context.

*  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 5.0 hours.

*  Home by 9:45 a.m. to read, note that Surname Saturday - BARTLETT (England to colonial Massachusetts) posted, and answer email and check Facebook.

*  We left at 11 a.m. for Carlsbad.  Met Tami and kids and ate at Miguel's, then went to the garden shop which has cool stuff.  Lots of pictures with girls and Charlie.

*  Checked Facebook, wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.0 hours.

My Geneaholic Friday - 6 February 2015

Not much research today, lots of writing and preparing for next week at RootsTech.  somehow it will all get done.

*  Read email and blogs, then noted that 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks - Week 58: #65, Martha (Whitney) Seaver (1764-1832) posted.  Wrote Added or Updated Databases on Ancestry.com - Week of 31 January to 6 February 2015 and set it for late morning.

*  Added the rest of the Nathan Gates deeds to the database, adding sources and notes also.  Also added notes for his census records.  His 52 Ancestors post is scheduled for next Friday, right in the middle of RootsTech.  I will try to write it this weekend.

*  Played with the Genealogy Pie program, had to update several FamilySearch Family Tree ancestors to make it look better, and wrote Checking Out Grandma's Pie - a Nice Treat! and set it for mid-afternoon.

*  Answered email, added to the Best Of post, and added some wordless Wednesday stories/photos to my Grandpa's Family Stories community on Google+.  Invited Linda, Lori and Tami.  Added my RootsTech talk selections to the mobile app.

*  Went to the grocery store and pharmacy - took 40 minutes.

*  Online to read, check Facebook and Google+, then worked a bit more in FamilySearch Family Tree.  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV, eat dinner, read the paper and wash dishes.

My Geneaholic Thursday - 5 February 2015

Only five more getups before we go to Salt Lake City.  The big interest today was they tore up our cul de sac today and paved it again.  Fascinating to see the machines working, the precision, all with few guys doing the work.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 249: 1798 Direct Tax List Record for Benjamin Sever and Sarah Sever.

*  spent some time correcting families in FamilySearch Family Tree in hopes they will be found by MyHeritage search.  Finally figured out how to add and disconnect and delete a person in the MyHeritage tree. (Hint - it's in the "More" section of the profile card).

*  After lunch, wrote Dear Randy: Where did You Get That 1798 Massachusetts Tax List? and found several more in the process and added them to the database.  Cool!

*  Looked at the Innovator Challenge contestants again, did some HistoryLines profiles.  Checked Facebook, then worked on Martha Whitney and Abigail Knowlton profiles, including FamilySearch Family Tree work.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch TV, read the paper, eat dinner, and wash dishes.

*  Online at 6:45 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and work on the CVGS Newsletter.  About 90% done, just need small filler articles now.  Then wrote the 52 Ancestors post, and then added 20 more World War I Draft Registration entries to the database, and in the process found some Find A Grave entries too.  sources at 59485.

*  Checked Facebook, answered email, wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.0 hours.

My Geneaholic Wednesday - 4 February 2015

Well, this was a full day.  I didn't advance the FHL or RootsTech balls today, unfortunately.

*  After posting last night, I received an email from Ancestry about the Beta, so wrote the Ancestry Introduces Beta "Improved Website" - And A First Look post and set it for 5 a.m. today.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Randy at 16 - Party! Birthday Cake! -- Post 345 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and Ancestry Home and Search Pages - New Beta Views and set it for later.

*  Went off at 11 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds, then to the library, sat in on John's group awhile, then the CVGS Bored meeting.  Hightailed it out after 2.5 hours.

*  Home by 3 p.m. to watch the WMGS meeting on YouTube, and read email and blogs during the talk.  After the talk, worked in MyHeritage and FSFT and RootsMagic to figure out why I get the message.  Fixed some FSFT profiles to try to avoid the problems.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV news, ate dinner, read the paper, put out the trash, and washed dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to write 2015 Season of Who Do You Think You Are? Starts 8 March, then to work on the CVGS Newsletter, then worked more in FSFT and RootsMagic trying to eliminate duplicates and extraneous spouses.  Did 4 or 5 families, it's a hard slog.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.5 hours.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:15 p.m., watched TV news, watered the front yard, and washed dishes.

My Super Bowl Sunday - 1 February 2015

This was Super Bowl Sunday, and it was an excellent game, although the ending was pretty lucky for the Patriots, 28-24.

*  Read email and blogs, and finished up the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 25 to 31 January 2015 post.

*  We left for church at 9:30 a.m., and were home by 11:30 a.m.  Read and answered email, transcribe two of Nathan Gates deeds and write two Amanuensis Monday posts, then worked for several hours on the Nathan Gates deeds, adding sources and abstracts to the database.  Got 6 out of 14 done.  Takes awhile!

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, then wrote the FamilySearch post for Monday, and worked through the first 75 entries of Seaver in Indiana Marriages on FamilySearch, adding content and sources.  Lots of Seaver folks I don't have in the database.
