My Semi-Genealogy Tuesday - 11 October 2016

Well, this day didn't turn out the way I planned.  The dentist visit was a disaster.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and we went to the store, and home by 9:40 a.m.  Noted that Treasure Chest Tuesday -- 1930 U.S. Census for the Dykkesten Household in Chelan County, Washington posted.

*  Tried to nap, but had to leave at 11 a.m. for the dentist office.  In the chair by 11:30, they were supposed to fix my loose crown on #18.  After an X-ray, they found decay and decided I needed the tooth pulled.  They suggested an implant or a bridge.  I decided on the bridge, so they took the crowns off #17 and #19 too.  Then they pulled #18 (it took almost an hour since the tooth was short and soft by that time).  Then they put a bone graft in the hole, sewed it up, and gave me a temporary bridge.  I left just after 3 p.m. with a prescription and a big bill.  Stopped at the pharmacy for my medicine, then home by 4.  I missed lunch, so had some apple sauce to tide me over.  My mouth was sore, and my lip where the tools rubbed on the corner.

*  Online to read email, and blogs, then wrote Tombstone Tuesday - Children of John Ellis and Leah (Bound) Seaver.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch baseball, we ate dinner, I watered the front plants, read the paper, and more baseball.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, write the Wordless Wednesday post, and resolved 55 Ancestry Hints adding content and sources to the database.  Checked Facebook.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was only 5.0 hours.

My Geneaholic Monday - 10 October 2016

I finally had a decent genealogy research day.  It was still warm today - around 90F.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up, and home to note that Amanuensis Monday - Elijah Champlin (1730-1779) of South Kingstown RI posted.

*  Edited the Saturday presentation one more time.  Copied it to Dropbox.  Even practiced it a bit.

*  Worked in the Spangler tree on Ancestry, adding content from Hints to the RootsMagic database.  Then worked some in the Family Tree for those folks.

*  Edited the CVGS Newsletter for the last time, and printed it off.  Had lunch, then took a short nap.

*  Online at 1:15 to continue the Family Tree stuff, then left at 2 for the UPS Store to publish the newsletter.  Had to take it to the post office to mail it.

*  Home by 3 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, note that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 2 to 8 October 2016 posted and wrote Family History Library Begins Construction of New Discovery Center.

*  Checked Facebook, then went in at 4:30 p.m. to watch the baseball games, read the paper, nap a bit and eat dinner.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, then resolved 51 Ancestry Hints that led to a big set of Find A Grave records for a Seaver family in NH.  Wrote the Treasure Chest post for Tuesday, then added some Dykkesten cousins to the database, with content and sources.  Sources now at 77,089.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Weekend - 8-9 October 2016

This was not a big genealogy weekend, mainly because of TV and being tired.  I pretty much took the weekend off.

1)  Saturday, 8 October:

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, came home to read email and blogs, picked her up, came home and left at 9:15 a.m. for the SDGS meeting.

*  Got to SDGS at 9:40, talked to folks, heard Ray and Simran do short presentations, and headed home by 11:30.  Home by noon to eat lunch and watch football and baseball.

*  Bored by TV, took a nap, then wrote the FS and Ancestry posts, then back to the TV.  Forgot to work on the CVGS newsletter.  Took Linda to get her nails done, and we ate at Lolita's.

*  Home by 6:15 p.m. and went back to the TV for the rest of the night.  My Aztecs won their game 26-7 so they're now 4-1 on the season.

*  Checked Facebook, read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post.  Didn't journal.  Genealogy this day was 4.5 hours.

2)  Sunday, 9 October 2016:

*  Read email and blogs while watching TV news, then off to church at 9:30 a.m.  Home by 11:15.

*  Worked on the CVGS newsletter and got it finished but it needed editing.  Went in at 12:30 p.m. to watch football, read the paper and eat lunch.  Chargers game on at 1:25.  At halftime, I edited the newsletter one more time.  Chargers lost to Raiders 34-31.

*  Online at 4:45 p.m .to note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 2 to 8 October 2016 posted and Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of 2 to 8 October 2016 too.  Wrote the Amanuensis Monday post.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner, read the paper and watch the debate.  Online at 8 p.m. to answer email, check Facebook and start the new Best Of post.  After the NBC game, watched Chargers highlights for 30 minutes.  Genealogy this day was 3.5 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 7 October 2016

This was an all genealogy day except for the driving, the nap and the baseball games.  It was warmer today with a Santa Ana starting.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, home to read email and blogs, picked her up at 9 as.m. and we went to the grocery store, then home.  Noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 145: #190 John Kenyon (1742-1831) posted and wrote New Records Available To Search Findmypast Friday, 7 October 2016 and set it for later.  Listened to ESM's webinar at the FHL too.

*  Took a short nap, then took Linda to Massage Envy, home to have lunch and then picked her up at 1 p.m.  Home to work on the CVGS newsletter - got it 80% finished.  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and tried to look at Findmypast collection of colonial passengers, but it's not indexed and very difficult to read the writing.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch the baseball games and eat dinner, then read the paper.  Online at 6:30 p.m. to write the Surname Saturday post, then worked in Ancestry Hints for awhile, and then wrote the SNGF post.

*  Went in to watch the end of the last game, and the highlights, then online to check Facebook and write this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 6 October 2016

Well, the days of 2016 are dwindling down to a precious few - I count 86 left.  It's almost time to turn the heater on here in Chula Vista.

*  Dropped Linda, read emails and blogs, picked her up, and home to note that 1710 Birth Record of Sylvester Kenyon -- Treasure Chest Thursday Post #334 posted.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 5 October 2016

My Genealogy Tuesday - 4 October 2016

This was not much of a genealogy day because of life and TV.  Still nice and cool and comfy in San Diego - high in the low 70s.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, came home to read email and blogs, picked her up and took her home, then off to my doctor's appointment - everything is fine.  Then to my dentist for routine cleaning.  That went OK, except they found a longtime crown was loose in one corner.  So I go again next week.  Drat.  They raised their prices too, by 50% for cleaning.

*  Home by 12:15 p.m. to eat lunch, noted that Tuesday's Tip: FREE BCG Presentations on Friday, 7 October 2016 posted, and downloaded the three NEHGR issues for 2016 to date, and read them.  Really sleepy at 2:30 so I had a nap.

*  Online at 3 p.m. to write Chipping Away at My End-of-Line Ancestors.  Read emails, added to the Best Of post, and checked Facebook,  Added content and sources from the NEHGR articles.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch the wild card game, eat dinner, read the paper, and watch the VP debate, then back to baseball afterwards.  Washed dishes.

*  Online at 9 p.m. to write the Wordless post for Wednesday, then checked Ancestry, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 5.0 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 3 October 2016

The weather has cooled down nicely after last week's heat wave.  Our high today was in the mid-70s and mid-60s overnight.  I may have to use a blanket tonight.

*  Dropped Linda at the Y, came hoem to read email and blogs, then pikcked her up and home by 9:03 to join Mondays With Myrt in progress.  Discussed the NARA Civil War pension file I received, plus discussion of how to attract our descendants to family stories.

*  Noted that Amanuensis Monday - Will of Jacques Poillon (1681-1733) of Richmond County, New York posted, as did Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 25 September to 1 October 2016.

*  Had lunch, answered emails, then wrote FREE "Little Family Tree" Mobile App is Available.  Took my nap.

*  Online at 3 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, then worked a bit in GEDMatch trying to find folks with specific chromosome matches.  Tough to do.  Answered more email.  Forgot to post to Twitter/Facebook.

*  We left at 5 p.m. for Marie Callenders for dinner, then to Ralphs to stock up after the kids were here over the weekend.

*  Home by 7 p.m. to watch the NFL game, then online to read blogs, worked on the bank statements a bit, then checked Facebook.  Wrote a post for Tuesday morning.   Wrote this post.  Where did the time go?  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Saturday and Sunday - 1 and 2 October 2016

This was a really busy weekend because the three grandchildren were here.  I got veryl ittle done in genealogy until Sunday night.  It was also a terrible San Diego sports weekend - everybody lost.

1)  Saturday, 1 October 2016:

*  Dropped Linda at the Y with Charlie, home to fix breakfast for the kids, then picked up Linda, and home by 9:15 a.m.  I didn't sleep well (Charlie was up 4 times, so I got maybe 5 hours in 5 segments...) so I napped from 10 to 11.  Played with the kids, and we all had lunch.

*  I left at 12:30 p.m. for Bonita library for the CVGS Workshop.  I put together a LOCKSS presentation about backing up files, and was the first one up at 1:15.

*  Had to come home by 2 so I could take Linda and the girls swimming at Barbaras.  Charlie and I watched football and I napped, and read some of Sandy's book.  Went to get the girls at 4 p.m, they changed and we left at 4:45 p.m. for Lolitas for dinner (Lauren had Subway, Audrey and Charlie had McDonalds).

*  Home by 6 p.m. to watch football (SDSU was playing) and Padres (at Arizona.  SDSU lost and Pads lost too.

*  After Charlie went to bed, I read Sandy's book, then checked email, blogs and Facebook but didn't journal.  Tired.  Genealogy this day was 1.5 hours.

2)  Sunday, 2 October 2016:

*  Only up 3 times in the night with Charlie.  He takes a bottle and goes back down - I was ready with backup bottles this time.  Got the kids fed in the morning, Linda went to church with Barbara, and we packed up and were ready to go at 10:45 a.m.

*  We left at 11:15 a.m. for Carlsbad to meet James, and got there right at noon.  Ate lunch at In n Out, then transferred the gear and the kids, and we were home by 1:30 p.m.

*  Watched the Chargers game, and switched briefly to the Padres.  Chargers lost 35-34 to New Orleans after leading 34-21 in the 4th quarter.  Another big fail on offense, defense and special teams.  Now 1-3.  Padres lost to Arizona 3-2, so ended the season at 68-94.

*  Online at 5 p.m. to note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 25 September to 1 October 2016 posted.  Wrote the Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of 25 September to 1 October 2016 post and the FamilySearch post for Monday.

*  Went in at 6:15 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner and read the paper.  Online at 7 p.m. to read email and blogs, then transcribed a will and wrote the Amanuensis Monday post.

*  Answered email and started the new Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 3.5 hours.
