My Semi-Genealogy Tuesday - 31 May 2016

I was away from Thursday, 26 May until today at my daughter's home in Santa Cruz having fun with my oldest grandson while his mother and brother went camping.  I did stay up-to-date over the long weekend with my genealogy work, news and sports.  Quite a bit of the effort was to prepare for this coming weekend when we go to Burbank for the Jamboree.  Today's log:

*  Up at 7 p.m. at Lori's to read email and blogs on the tablet, then had breakfast and worked for two hours on blog posts.  Packed up.

*  We left for the airport at 10:20 a.m., got there by 11:20 a.m., and I had lunch and waited for my 1:40 p.m. flight which was right on time.  We arrived in San Diego at 3 p.m. right on schedule.  Read my book.

*  I got home at 4 p.m. from the airport today, and read the latest email and blogs, adding content to the Best Of post.  Noted that Treasure Chest Tuesday - 1890 Death Record for Sarah (Auble) SchoonoverJesse Montgomery Seaver Genealogies  and  SCGS Jamboree is Almost Here - Starts Thursday! posted.

*  Had dinner, watched TV, and then at 7 p.m. transcribed another part of Henry smith's probate file.

*  Went in at 8 p.m. to watch Genealogy Roadshow, and then back to write next week's Amanuensis Monday post.

*  Wrote this post, and I'm done.  Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 25 May 2016

This seemed like an all genealogy day, and I got some things worked on but not finished.  I leave on Thursday for Santa Cruz for the weekend so I may not blog here until Tuesday next week.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Visiting Queenstown NZ #3 -- Post 414 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and Virtual Institute of Genealogical Research (VIGR) Announces Summer and Fall 2016 Courses and set it for later.

*  Uploaded another GEDCOM to Findmypast and it failed again.  Drat.

*  Packed up and left at 11 a.m. for McDonalds for lunch, then the bank and the library for John's group and then the CVGS program meeting.  Left at 2:30, home by 2:45 p.m., and watched the end of the Padres game.  Lost 4-3 in the bottom of the 9th to the Giants, so now 19-29.

*  Online at 4:15 p.m. to read, then researched and wrote Keeping Up With the Seaver Folks on GenealogyBank.  Copied several obits to the person Notes.  Checked Facebook.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:30 p.m. and watch TV, read the paper, and put the trash out.  Online at 6:45 p.m. to read, then write several posts for the next week.  Resolved 77 Ancestry Hints also, adding content and sources.

*  Added to the Best Of post, answered email and got my boarding pass.  Also got my train reservations for Jamboree.  Genealogy this day was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 24 May 2016

This was a different Tuesday for me because I had the NSDCGS program to do.

*  Read email and some blogs, then left at 8 a.m. for Carlsbad for the 10 a.m. NSDCGS meeting.  I'm glad I left early - traffic was backed up all over the city.  It took 80 minutes to go the first 20 miles - to highway 52.  Then 25 minutes to go the next 23 miles to Carlsbad.  Got that at 9:45 a.m. in the middle of their meeting.

*  Got set up at 10 a.m. - their screen was broken, so they used the side panel city council screens.  I had to use the clicker and read off the screen.  The talk went well.  I left at 11:45 a.m. and was home by 12:30.  Had lunch, watched TV and napped in the recliner.

*  Online at 1:30 p.m. to read, finish reading blogs, added to the Best Of post and noted that Now I Have 25 New Ancestor Discoveries! Really? and Uploading a GEDCOM File to a New Findmypast Family Tree posted.

*  Wrote Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 9: Was Sarah Auble Elizabeth's Sister?  Worked on the Auble tree on Ancestry searching for records to add to my database.  Checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV and eat dinner.  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, answer email and check Facebook.

*  Went in at 7:20 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, did some Sudoku, read email and blogs and Facebook on the tablet, and washed dishes.  Padres lost 8-2 to the Giants so now 19-28 on the season, and 0-8 vs. the Giants.  Lost 3 straight and 7 of 10.

*  Online at 10:10 p.m. to read, and write this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 23 May 2016

This was a stay-at-home genealogy day, and then the Padres game.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that CVGS Program on Wednesday, May 25th Features Jim Bregante and Amanuensis Monday - Post 321: Estate Inventory of Henry Smith (1680-1743) of Medfield, Mass. posted, then  joined the panel on Mondays With Myrt.

*  Wrote Register for SCGS Genealogy Jamboree Livestreaming - FREE on June 3rd to 5th and then worked on the Pennsylvania talk for Tuesday at NSDCGS.

*  Noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 15 to 21 May 2016 posted, and took a nap.

*  Online at 3 p.m. to write Deleting Old Findmypast Family Trees.  Made a GEDCOM and tried to upload it to Findmypast twice.  Failed both times.  Who knows why.

*  Tried to upload my DNA file to MyHeritage - not sure if it worked or not.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:30 p.m. and watched TV.  Online at 6:20 p.m. to read, then worked a bit matching folks in FSFT in RootsMagic.

*  Went in at 7:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game.  Read the paper, then got the laptop out and got the NSDCGS presentation loaded, then read email, Feedly and Facebook, then worked in Ancestry on the Auble tree adding Hints and content.  I need to transfer some of it to RootsMagic sometime soon.  Giants beat Padres 1-0 on bloop hit in 9th inning.  Crap.  Now 19-26.

*  Online at 10 p.m. to read, answer email and write this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Sunday - 22 May 2016

This was not much of a genealogy day because of the 17 inning Padres game, which cut into my research and blog posting time.

*  Read email and blogs on my phone, then off to church at 9:30 a.m. and home by 11:15 a.m.  Read, then wrote the Ancestry and FamilySearch database posts, then did the next 52 Ancestors post, and transcribed the Henry Smith inventory for Amanuensis Monday.

*  Went in at 2 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, and take a recliner nap.  Checked email and blogs and Facebook on my tablet, then we had dinner.  The Padres game went until 7:15 p.m. - we lost in 17 innings to the Dodgers.  Frustrating, so now 19-26.

*  Online at 7:15 p.m. to finish up one Amanuensis post and did another.  Resolved 107 Ancestry Hints, checked Facebook, answered email, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Sources now at 73,834.  Genealogy today was 5.0 hours.

My Genealogy Saturday - 21 May 2016

This was a full day, but it wasn't all genealogy.

*  Read email and blogs quickly, then left at 8:10 a.m. for the LDS Chula Vista Family Discovery Day.  There before 8:30, got some breakfast, talked to folks, and went to set up in the chapel and they didn't have a projector.  The grabbed one from another room and I gave my keynote talk at 9:30 a.m.  Went 5 minutes over.  Oh well.  Folks seemed to like it.

*  Talked to the CVGS folks during the 10 a.m. hour, and then did my FSFT talk in the 11 a.m. hour with about 20 folks in attendance.  Back to the gym to talk to folks, then went to the car and rested my eyes.

*  Went to Derek's house at 1 p.m. for his celebration of life.  Several Rohr folks were there and we had a good visit.  Left at 2:45 because I was exhausted.  Got home and read blogs and email, and then watched the Preakness, and took a nap in the recliner.

*  Online at 4:45 to work on the Auble stuff, noted that Surname Saturday - LNU (England to New England) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Your Genealogy Life posted.  We ate dinner, and I came back to work some more on Auble stuff.

*  Went in at 7:10 p.m. to watch the Padres-Dodgers game.  ead the paper and finished my book, then got the tablet and caught up on Facebook, blogs and email.  Washed dishes.  Padres won 3-2 in 11 innings, so that's two walkoffs in a row.  Now 19-25 on the season, but evened season with the Dodgers at 4-4.

*  Online to write this post, and off to bed.  Genealogy today was 6./0 hours.

Friday, May 20, 2016

My Genealogy Friday - 20 May 2016

This was a stay-at-home day for me, but now I think I'm ready for Saturday.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote 52 Ancestors - Week 125: #148 Ephraim Sawtell (1734-1800) and Findmypast Challenges Family Historians To Find Ancestors and set it for later.

*  Worked a bit in Findmypast on Hints and sources.  Found out that I din't upload all of my tree to FMP.  Drat.  Answered email.

*  Practiced my two talks for Saturday.  Too long and just right.

*  Did more in the Auble tree on Ancestry, and started adding the Sarah folks to RootsMagic.  Wrote

1.4 Million Westminster Records Available To Search This Findmypast Friday - 20 May 2016.  Checked Facebook, and took a short nap.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch TV and eat dinner.  Online at 6:15 p.m. to write two Surname Saturday posts and the SNGF post.

*  Went in at 7:40 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, fire up the laptop and get the presentations on it.  Checked email and added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 19 May 2016

The next three weekends are going to be busy - the LDS seminar this Saturday, at Lori's the next weekend, and at Jamboree the next weekend.  I need time to do everything I need to do so blogging may suffer a bit.  Already made one decision to stop watching all 9 innings of the Padres games - it's a 3 hour time suck every night.

*  Read blogs and email, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 314: Birth Records of Children of Ephraim and Abigail (Stone) Sawtell in Groton, Mass.

*  Worked some more in the Auble AMT finding and adding Hints to the database.  I think I have the Sarah Auble line figured out.  Thought about it trying to go to sleep twice last night.

*  Left at 10:30 a.m. for the bank then to Sunset for the Engineers lunch, and then to church for the directory photos.  We bought some more.

*  Home at 2 p.m. to read a bit, then took a nap.

*  Online at 3:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and write Dear Randy -- How Do You Put a Census Extraction In Your RootsMagic Database?  Checked Facebook and Twitter.

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to watch TV, and eat dinner.  Padres game started at 6:10 and I watched 3 innings.  Online at 6:45 p.m. to read, then worked on the 52 ancestor data, adding content and sources and notes to the database.  Padres lost 3-1 to the Giants, so now 17-25, lost 4 straight.

*  Online at 9 p.m. to read, work some more on the sketch, added to the Best Of post, and write this post.  Genealogy this day was 7.0 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday and Wednesday - 17 and 18 May 2016

I didn't journal last night because we got home late from the Padres game at 11 p.m.  These were two stay-at-home genealogy days until the Padres games.

1)  Tuesday, 17 May 2016:

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Tuesday - Henry White (1824-1885) Civil War Draft Registration Record.

*  Finished up the presentations and handouts for Saturday, and put them in Dropbox.  Forgot to fire up the laptop and get them ready to deliver.

*  Researched the Aubles a bit and wrote Making Progress on My Auble Cousins - Post 8: Nathan Auble's Descendants.  Had lunch and took a nap.

*  Online at 3 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and research the other heirs that were not Aubles.  Slim pickings - didn't find much.  Checked Facebook.  Found and downloaded the Henry Smith probate papers.

*  We left at 5 p.m. for the trolley, ate dinner at the Tin Fish and were in our seats at Petco by 6:30 p.m.  Padres lost to the Giants 5-1, so now 17-23 on the season, and we are 2-4 in attendance.  Got the 10:15 trolley and home by 11 p.m.  Genealogy this day was 8.0 hours.

2)  Wednesday, 18 May 2016:

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Visiting Queenstown NZ #2 -- Post 413 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and Family Discovery Day at Chula Vista LDS Stake on Saturday, 21 May.

*  Researched and wrote You Should Browse Probate Records on Ancestry.com - Don't Rely on Only the Index.  Took my nap.

*  Added the other heirs to my Auble tree on Ancestry to get the Hints, and followed some trails to try to find connections to the Aubles.  Didn't find any - maybe they were family friends?

*  Went in at 5:15 p.m. to eat dinner and watch TV.  Put out the trash.  Online at 6 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and work some more in the Auble tree on Ancestry.

*  Went in at 7:10 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper and then my book, which I think I've read before, then checked email, blogs and Facebook on the tablet.  Padres lost 2-1 to the Giants so now lost 4 in a row and are 17-24 sinking deeper into last place.

*  Online at 9:45 p.m. to read, answer email and write this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

1)  Sunday, 15 May 2016:

2)  Monday, 16 May 2015

*  Read email and blogs, added to the NGS post and the Best Of post, then got into the Mondays With Myrt Hangout.  Talked about the MyHeritage books being free, and the Elizabeth Auble will.

*  Noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 320: Will of Henry Smith (1680-1743) of Medfield, Mass. and Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 8 to 14 May 2016 posted.

*  Worked on the CVGS blog, adding two posts and writing two more for later in the week. Took my nap.

* Online at 3 p.m. to read, then wrote SCGS Genealogy Jamboree 2016 Class Picks.  Checked Facebook.  Went in and had dinner and watched TV until 7 p.m.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to work on the next biography, searching for data for Ephraim Sawtell on Ancestry, FamilySearch, AmericanAncestors and Fold3.  Resolved 18 entries from the 1920 US Census also in Ancestry Hints.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

Thursday, May 12, 2016

My Genealogy Thursday - 12 May 2016

This was another fairly full genealogy day at home, with several interruptions.  Tomorrow things will change - we get the three grandkids at noon!

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 313: 1734 Birth Record of Ephraim Sawtell in Groton, Mass. and then went out and did the laundry and swept up some of the garage mess.

*  Back in at 10 a.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, answer email, and add some folks to the Auble family found in obituaries.  Wrote Crestleaf.com’s 12 Months of Fascinating Family Finds -- April 2016: Elizabeth Auble's Will and took a nap.

*  Online at 2:15 p.m. to read, then worked on Nona's problem with her Seaver family.  It's a puzzle and I may write it up sometime.

*  We went to Costco on an emergency run at 4 p.m. and home by 4:30.  Worked more on the Seaver puzzle.

*  Went in at 5:45 p.m. to watch the Padres game, eat dinner and read the paper.  Padres won 3-0 over Brewers, so now 16-20.  Won 3 of 4, 5 of 8, 7 of 11, 9 of 14.  Pitching has been excellent.

*  Online at 8:15 p.m. to work on the 52 Ancestors profile, check Facebook and write 2017 International Germanic Genealogy Conference—July 28-29, 2017.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

My Genealogy Wednesday - 11 May 2016

This was not quite an all-genealogy Wednesday, but I got very little done.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch the Padres game, eat dinner, didn't read the paper since it wasn't delivered, and checked stuff on the tablet.  Padres beat Cubs 7-4 in the morning game, and 1-0 in the evening game.  Now 15-20 on the season.

*  Online at 8:15 p.m. to read, then went down a Seaver rabbit hole trying to help Marie on a question.  Added several Seaver folks and sources, plus several obituaries to the database.  Also worked on some of the Auble tree Hints, and added some profiles also.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

*  Edited the CVGS Newsletter, and printed out the master copy.  Left at 10:15 p.m. for the UPS Store to publish it and mail it, then to Home Depot for garden stuff, glue beds for the garage rodents, and cabinet locks for Charlie.  Home by 11:45 a.m. to spray the weeds and set out the glue beds and install the latches.

*  Answered email and read blogs, then noted that Added or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - Week of 1 to 7 May 2016 posted.  Had lunch, then wrote Using Puzzilla to Visualize My Auble Family Tree Research.  Took my nap.
