My Semi-Genealogy Sunday - 27 March 2016

Not much of a genealogy day due to church, work on the taxes, a nap, dinner out, basketball, and lassitude.  Still tired and not sleeping well.

*  Read email and blogs on my phone while watching Meet the dePressed, then off to church at 9:30.  Home by 11:30 a.m. and worked on the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts, had lunch, and back to note that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 20 to 26 March 2016 posted.

*  Opened Turbotax and had a missing file after the update.  Called TurboTax and spent 30 minutes getting things fixed - ended up signing in to my account, then downloading a new file (after deleting the old file).  That worked, and an hour later got started.  Got the income section done - I love the download from the investment firms!  That saves a lot of time.

*  Read, took a nap, watched some basketball, and we left at 4:45 p.m. for dinner at Marie Callenders.  Just had the soup and salad.

*  Home by 6 p.m. to read, watch basketball, have dessert and read the paper, then wrote two Amanuensis Monday posts and checked Facebook.  Noted that Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of 20 to 26 March 2016 posted.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Tuesday - Ichabod Kirby (1705-1793) Family Vital Records.  Looked for and found the Thomas Dill guardianship records, downloaded and renamed them.

*  Knock on the door:  "Hi, I will deep clean and dry foam wash one room for free."  A Kirby vacuum guy.  I said OK, then told him we had one and hadn't used it for 3 years.  He showed me how to use it, demoed the deep clean and dry foam with it, and then tried to sell me the newest one for half off as a tradein.  Nope.  I ended up doing the bedroom dry foam.  Felt pretty good about it, took it apart and cleaned it, then attached the vacuum parts again.  And the damn thing didn't work!  What?  I wish I was more mechanical.  I swear I did it right.  Can't find the handbook.  Wasted two hours.

This was a pretty full genealogy day - and the CVGS Research Group day.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote The Great Barrier Reef -- Post 403 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and SDGS Program on Saturday, 12 March is on "19th Century Germans to America" and set it for later.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for McDonalds for lunch, then to the library for John's group and the CVGS research Group.  We had about 18, it was pretty good.

*  Home by 2:30 p.m. to take a nap, then online at 3:15 p.m. to add to the Best Of post, and we went to Barbara's to pick up the mail.  Home by 4:15 p.m. to write Finding a Maiden Name, and More, for Mary (--?--) (Breck) Plimpton.

*  Checked Facebook.  Went in at 5:45 p.m. for dinner, read the paper and watch TV.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, work on the SCGS syllabus, and then did 21 1920 US Census Hints on Ancestry, adding content and sources.  Down to 121 now (they keep adding them!).  Citations at 70,543.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 8 March 2016

This was an all genealogy day, but I got a nap and watched the last episode of Finding Your Roots.  Linda coughed a bit today, and is still wheezing at night, but seems better.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote 2016 Top 100 Genealogy Websites by GenealogyInTime Magazine.

*  Watched several of the James Tanner videos on YouTube.  Searched for New York maps and articles on Wikipedia, the FS Wiki and American Ancestors.  Read some of the New York Family History Research Guide book.  Not sure I can get it all in one hour!

*  Had lunch, then wrote Dear Randy: Will the Ancestry Member Tree "New Sync" Be Like the Current Matching with FamilySearch Family Tree?  Took my nap.

*  Online at 2:15 p.m. to add to the Best Of post, answer email, and download the RootsMagic update and imported the FTM file.  Wrote RootsMagic Can Now Read Family Tree Maker Files Directly - UPDATED but forgot that my FTM file did not have media tags for Facts.  Posted on Facebook and Bruce corrected me, so I updated the post.

*  Worked in FamilySearch Family Tree a bit matching persons.  Went in at 5:40 p.m. to eat dinner, read the paper and watch TV news.

*  Online at 6:40 p.m. to read, then worked on the Amos Plimpton events adding content and sources.
*  Went in at 8 p.m. to watch Finding Your Roots, Dustin Hoffman and Mia Farrow, and it was fascinating.

*  Online at 9:20 p.m. to read, then found Mary (Pratt) (Breck) Plimpton's death record and Find A Grave memorial, and Amos Plimpton's (1770-1770) death record.  Added sources and content.

*  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 7 March 2016

This was a different genealogy Monday, since my OASIS class started.  It rained hard for about 15 minutes as the front rolled through with some thunder at about 9 a.m.  Showery the rest of the day.  Linda's cough is better.

*  Read email and blogs, and noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 310: 1798 Deed of Amos Plimpton et.al to Harman Guild in Norfolk County, Mass. posted.  Corrected the CVGS Newsletter some more.

*  Tuned into Mondays With Myrt and lasted until 9:20 a.m.  Had to leave to try to beat the traffic and rain to Mission Valley.  got there by 9:40 a.m.  In at 10 a.m. to get ready for the class start at 10:15.  Had 7 students, and the class went well.

*  Home by 1 p.m. to eat lunch, read blogs, note that New or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - February 28 to March 5, 2016 posted.  Printed off the CVGS Newsletter, but the laberls jammed the printer and I had a hard time getting it out.  Finally did, but now a dark streak on the right side of every page.  Drat.  Took a nap.

*  Online at 2:15 p.m. to read, then went to the UPS Store to print the newsletter and then to Ralph's to shop.  Home by 4 p.m.  Answered email, then wrote Nobody's Perfect! Correcting My Own Tree Error.

*  Went in for dinner at 5:15 p.m., watched TV, and read the paper.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and send out the newsletter.  Checked Facebook, worked in Ancestry Hints for awhile, and then in FamilySearch Family Tree matching folks in James's tree.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Sunday - 6 March 2016

*  Read email and blogs on my phone while watching TV.

*  Online at 10 a.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and then watched several of the RootsTech videos.  Worked on the Ancestry and FamilySearch posts.  Answered more email.  Noted that Best of the Genea-Blogs - 28 February to 5 March 2016 posted.  Took my nap.

*  Online at 3:15 p.m. to read, then transcribed the Guild heirs deed.  Worked on Google Maps to try to find the land.  Answered more email.  Checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to eat dinner and read the paper and watch TV.  Online at 7 p.m. to note that Added or Updated Databases at Ancestry.com - Week of 28 February to 5 March 2016 posted.  Wrote the Amanuensis Monday post.  Edited the CVGS Newsletter.

My Genealogy Saturday - 5 March 2016

This was a big genealogy day, but I did not blogging (except this post) and little researching.  Linda is coughing worse and needs to see the doctor.  Started the cough medicine and humidifier tonight.

*  Read email while watching TV in the morning, and left at 7:45 a.m. for the downtown parking garage.  We took two cars to Escondido for the Family History Fair all-day seminar.  I rode with Gary and Wanda.

*  We got there at 8:50 a.m., signed in and almost immediately went to the keynote talk with Barry.  It was about Google searches - nothing new for me.  At 10, I went to the DNA talk by Dee and it was OK until she got to the part that "you have proof of a relationship if you have a DNA match and known common ancestors in your trees on Ancestry."  Umm, not exactly, I think.  You have evidence, can make a hypothesis, but not proof.  I went to Jean's talk on Family Trees and it was funny and good.

*  We ate lunch in the exhibit hall - had a good conversation with Sam, Ann and Myrna about Australia/New Zealand vacations.  Then I sat in on Barry's soliloquy about his dead mother helping him in genealogy, and he tried to explain the Genealogical Proof Standard without using the terms, and messed up the sources, information and evidence definitions.  I dozed off.  I stayed in the exhibit hall, watched a bit of Lisa Cooke's RootsTech talk on Google, and kibitzed with my colleagues and ate candy.  We left after 3 p.m. and I was home at 4 p.m.

*  Read email and blogs, added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV, eat dinner and read the paper.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, answered some email, and reviewed the Kirby papers a correspondent sent.  Tried to work in the Ancestry Hints and found a mistake so I fixed it.  Went in at 8 p.m. to watch the Aztercs game - they beat UNLV 92-56 to finish 16-2 in MWC and 23-8 overall.

*  Online at 9:15 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and write this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 4 March 2016

This was pretty much an all genealogy day, and I finished several tasks.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote 52 Ancestors - Week 114: #137 Patience (Hamant) Smith (1735-1780).  Wrote More Family Tree Maker Information From Software MacKiev and set it for later.

*  Worked in FamilySearch Family Tree for awhile matching RootsMagic and FSFT persons, then adding content to FSFT.

*  Answered email and added to the Best Of and RootsTech posts.  Had lunch, then worked in MyHeritage and wrote Finding MyHeritage Record Collection Lists.  Took my nap.

*  Online at 2 p.m. to look through a bag of old family photos found when I was looking for a notebook in my piles.  Walked down Memory Lane, but I already have scans of most of them.

*  Worked in Massachusetts Land Records on FamilySearch to find deeds for Amos Plimpton and all of my John Plimptons in Norfolk County (after 1793) and Suffolk County (before 1793).  Not too many, on the list.  Found the deeds and downloaded them, renamed them and now can abstract or transcribe them.

*  Wrote the Surname Saturday post.  Went in at 5:30 p.m. for dinner, read the paper, and watched TV.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, talk to Lori on the phone, and then wrote the SNGF post and worked on the CVGS newsletter - got it 95% finished, I hope.  Printed off the classes for Saturday at Escondido.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.5 hours.

*  Worked on adding Life Stories for all of my 52 Ancestors to date in the Family Tree.  Took a nap.

*  Online at 2 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and write Who Do You Think You Are? Season Starts Sunday, April 3.  Wrote a post for the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe also.

*  We left at 3 p.m. to visit Barbara, then dinner at Lolita's and home at 6 p.m. to watch the debate.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for McDonalds for lunch, then to the bank for the letter, and the library - sat in on John's group briefly, then to the CVGS Bored meeting which lasted "only" two hours.  I did my bit in 60 seconds.

*  Home at 2:30 p.m. and took a nap immediately!  Online at 3:30 to write Family Tree Maker is Updated and Shipping Now.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post and answered emails.  Sent the OASIS handouts off too.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV and eat dinner, then read the paper and put out the trash.  Online at 6:30 p.m. to work in FamilySearch Family Tree, then resolved 170 Ancestry Hints, adding sources and content.  Sources now at 70,324.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Geneaholic Tuesday - 1 March 2016

March started out with a bang - I had no clue what to blog about at 8:30 a.m. and ended up writing four posts.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Tuesday's Tip: Watch Long Lost Family on TLC Starting 6 March 2016.

*  Worked on the presentations and handouts for Classes 3 and 4, and finished them up.  So that's two presentation projects finished.  Now for the next one!

*  Worked in RootsMagic a bit matching folks in FamilySearch Family Tree.  Checked Facebook, and wrote "1000 Years of European History" Maps on Facebook.  That was pretty cool.  Took my nap.

*  Online at 2 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, checked out the book matches on MyHeritage and wrote Bright Shiny Object Search Report - My Grandmother's Flower Arrangements.

*  Worked some more in FamilySearch Family Tree on the Brigham families descended from Sophia Buck.  These are cousins and potential DNA matches.  Need to do more research on them.  Merged about five duplicates in one family.

*  Went in at 5:30 for dinner, and watched TV news and read the paper.  Online at 6:15 p.m. to read, then wrote They Listened ... Ancestry Offers Different Colors for Ancestry Member Trees.  Worked some more in the FSFT.
