My Genealogy Saturday - 30 January 2016

This was a mixed day - some blogging, a memorial service, and more blogging!

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Surname Saturday -- ROLFE (England to colonial Massachusetts) posted, and wrote the SNGF post.

*  We left at 9:45 a.m. for Costco, then to Denny's memorial service at church.  Home by 1:30 p.m.

*  Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun -- Your #GenealogySelfie Photo posted, and watched golf then took a nap in the recliner.

*  Online at 3:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, then wrote MyHeritage Adds Audio Recordings to Their Mobile App.  Went in at 5 p.m. for dinner, read the paper, and watch the Aztecs game.  Aztecs beat UNLV.

*  Online at 7:15 p.m. to read, and wrote several more blog posts for the week. Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 29 January 2016

Only three more getups before we go off to Salt Lake City.  Linda has started packing.  I'll do it Sunday night.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote 52 Ancestors - Week 109: #132 Simon Gates (1739-1803) and one for next Friday too.

*  Tested many of the apps on the tablet and iPhone.  Had to delete and then upload the Ancestry app to the phone.  The mobiles are ready to go.  Got almost 200 photos off the phone too to make room for FHL and RootsTech photos.

*  Went through Geni looking for famous people I'm related to.  Found a bunch and saved them.  Answered email and added to the Best Of post.

*  Wrote Geni.com Tells Me I'm Related to Some Interesting Authors and took my nap.

*  Checked Facebook, answered more email, and wrote the Surname Saturday post for this week and next.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, and read the paper.  We left at 6:10 to take bottles to Virgil, and home by 6:45 p.m.  Washed the dishes.  Helped Linda sort shoes.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, then worked on the CVGS newsletter.  It's about 90% done now.  Checked new Ancestry Hints but didn't do anything with them.  I'm tired.  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook and I'm done.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday and Thursday - 27-28 January 2016

I didn't have time on Wednesday to journal, so I'm trying to remember two days worth of genealogy activity.

1)  Wednesday, 27 January 2016:

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote NGS 2010 Conference in Salt Lake City (Part 1) -- Post 397 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and another post for next week. Then wrote Lisa Louise Cooke is Featured Speaker at Orange County, California Genealogical Society BASH on 5 March 2016 and set it for later.  Took a short nap.

*  Left at 11 a.m. for McDonalds for lunch, then to the bank, and then to Bonita library to help set up for the CVGS program.  Talked to Gena for awhile, then enjoyed her presentation.

*  Home by 2:30 p.m. to read, work on the Simon Gates biography, then researched and wrote Standardized Historical and Current Place Names - Post 2: Two Potential RootsMagic Solutions.

*  Found out that the streaming classes and syllabus from RootsTech were available, so wrote RootsTech 2016 Streaming Video Class Schedule and RootsTech 2016 Class Syllabus Available.

*  Went in at 5:45 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner and read the paper, and put the trash out.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, then worked on the CVGS newsletter for February, since I'm going to be gone all of next week.

*  Checked Facebook, and discovered Ancestry Hint changes.  Answered email, and added to the Best Of post.  Genealogy this day was 10.0 hours.

2)  Thursday, 28 January 2016:

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday Post 298: 1766 Marriage Record of Simon Gates and Susanna Reed in Marlborough, Mass. and another for next week.

*  Worked on reading and printing syllabus articles.  Has a printer problem - the black ink stopped working.  After a brief Facebook discussion, a "Printhead Clean" worked.

*  Researched and wrote Ancestry.com Revises "People With Hints" Presentation and then took my nap.

*  Back online at 3 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and wrote Standardized Historical and Current Place Names - Post 3: An Elegant Solution.  Checked Facebook, answered email, and read more syllabus articles.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV, eat dinner, read the paper and then watched the debate.

*  Online at 8 p.m. to read, then worked on the CVGS Newsletter, and I'm done.  Genealogy today was 12.0 hours.

My Semi-Genealogy Tuesday - 26 January 2016

Well, I jumped the gun on the Selfie day...thought it was today!  didn't read the headline or text, I guess. Oh well, I can do it on 1 February too.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that ConferenceKeeper & Geneabloggers Proclaim February 1 as #GenealogySelfie Day posted, then wrote My RootsTech 2016 Class Selections.

*  Decided to work ahead a bit on the 52 Ancestors post because RootsTech is next week, and got this week's biography ready to go.

*  Had lunch, then we left at 12:45 p.m. for the financial advisor meeting.  On the way back, we drove through North Park past the old house and church and school, then to Barbara's center to take her mail, then to El Pollo Loco for dinner, and home by 5:30 p./m.

*  Watched news and read the paper, had dessert, and online at 6 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and write Standardized Historical and Current Place Names - Post 1.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, answered email, and then watched Finding Your Roots and the SDSU basketball game.  We won 57-54 over Nevada but it was hard.

*  Online at 10:15 p.m. to read, then wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.

Not much and then all day!  Only 7 more days until we leave for RootsTech.

1)  Sunday, 24 January:

*  Joined Mondays With Myrt and discussed my posts about preparing for the FHL, my descendants research plan and the RootsMagic sources series.

*  Watched the RootsTech Ambassador webinar and added the RootsTech app to the tablet.  The iPhone app is so small, the tablet app looks good and is readable.  I guess that's the winner this time!

My Semi-Genealogy Monday - 11 January 2016

I say semi-genealogy because I didn't really do much real genealogy research today.  It was more like I did some genealogy things and real life interfered with doing more.

*  Read email and blogs, then joined the Mondays with Myrt BHOA for awhile.  My bit was about my post on the 10 biggest genealogy stories of 2015.

*  We left at 9:35 a.m. for the health center for Linda's eye appointment at 10.  Stopped by Ralphs afterward to pick up her prescription and some food.  Home by 12 noon.

*  Read, then noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post #302: 1717 Will of Jeffrey Jones (1635-1717) of Elizabethtown, N.J. and New or Updated Record Collections at FamilySearch.org - January 3 to 9, 2016 posted.

*  Printed off the CVGS newsletter master and the mailing labels, and went to the UPS center to copy and mail the newsletter copies to those who don't have email.  Home by 2 p.m.

*  Read, answered some email, and emailed the newsletter to the email list.  Went in and took my nap.

My Geneaholic Wednesday - 6 January 2016

I feel like I wasted the day research-wise.  I did a lot of searching - for records of people in my database, for something useful to write about, etc.  This was a rainy day in Chula Vista - heavy after 3 p.m., light in the evening.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Meeting Genealogy Folks in January 2009 -- Post 394 of (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and then Announcing The 2016 Southern California Genealogy Jamboree & Genetic Genealogy Conferences and set it for later.

*  Home by 2:30 ahead of the heavy rain, read email and blogs, and took my nap.  Up at 3:30 p.m. to read, then searched for something to write about.  Failure.  Answered email, followed some leads on Ancestry and added some content and sources to the database on a Seaver family.
