My Genealogy Week So Far - 28 to 30 April 2014

I know, I've been remiss in daily journaling.  Sorry about that.  I haven't done much genealogy work besides blogging.

1)   Monday, 27 April -- managed to read email on my phone and blogs on the desktop before going off at 7:15 AM for the courthouse for my jury duty.  One day or one trial.  I really hoped for one day, and had prepared two blog posts for Monday.

Sat in jury lounge until 10 AM and called as #35 in a pool of 50 panelists.  We all went to the courtroom and voir dire on all of us lasted until 12 noon.

I got lunch in the little deli shop and ate it in the lunch room, then went off to the County Recorder's office a block away and hot Henry Austin Carringer's death certificate.  It took about 20 minutes, and I was back to the court room in plenty of time.  We went through jury selection and I was Alternate #1 (seat 13).  We heard the opening arguments and two witnesses testify.

During the day, I was able to keep up with email, blogs and Facebook on my phone, and read my CJ Box book during the breaks.

I was home by 5 p.m. and read email and blogs, we had dinner and wrote MyHeritage Surpasses 5 Billion Historical Records.  I called Audrey and Tami's phone and sang happy birthday to her.  She giggled.  Was able to write two blog posts for Tuesday also.  Then I went in and watched the Padres game against the Giants - we won 4-3.  It ended at 11 PM so no further genealogy effort besides adding to the Best Of post.

2)  Tuesday, 29 April -- Court time was 9:15 AM, so I read email and blogs and checked that Tuesday's Tip - Michigan Collections on FamilySearch posted, and wrote a blog post for later, and left at 8:45 AM for the courthouse.

We heard testimony all morning and for 90 minutes in the afternoon and were sent home early.  Had lunch in the deli and walked and read my book during the lunch break - it was hot outside.  Stayed updated on my phone.

Was home by 3 p.m. and noted that Become an FGS 2014 Conference Ambassador and New Options on FamilySearch Family Tree "Tree View" posted.  I checked email and blogs but not much else.

The termite guy came and we signed up for fumigation, insulation and wood repair jobs.  We had dinner, and I wrote two blog posts before the Padres game.  We lost 6-0 to the Giants.

Online at 10:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, and off to bed tired out.

3)  Wednesday - 30 April -- Read email and blogs, wrote a blog post for later, and then left at 8:45 AM for the courthouse, and was there for 9:15 AM opening.  We had judge's instructions and final arguments in the morning.  The judge sent the jury to deliberate at 11:30 AM, but the two alternates got to leave subject to recall on 30 minute notice.

*  I headed to the library for the CVGS program meeting - ate the sandwich, fruit, crackers and cookies there for lunch, and enjoyed the Orphan Train program.

*  Got home by 2:30 PM, and noted that A Proud and Pensive Father in 1919 -- Post 305 for (Not So) Wordless WednesdayDear Randy: How Do I Remove the Whole Tree From My Account? and Rest in Peace -- John Charles "Jack" Wood (1930-2014)
had posted.  Wrote Tattoos, Pigeon Theft and Financial Fraud in Victorian Youth Offenders Database on Ancestry.com.

*  Did a little research before dinner in Ancestry, then went in for dinner, to watch TV, and back online at 6:15 PM to read and write a post for Thursday morning.

*  Went in at 7:15 PM to watch the Padres game, read the paper, did the dishes, and read my book - almost done!  Padres lost 3-2 to the Giants, so no 13-16 on the year.  Still can't hit for average or with power.

*  Online at 9:30 PM to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook and Google+, and write this post.

My Geneaholic Sunday - 27 April 2014

Jury duty on Monday, hopefully only one day so as not to slow my production down.

*  Read email and blogs, finished up the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 20 to 26 April 2014 post.

*  Worked for awhile in the database, adding more Mass VR records to people and adding sources.  Went in at 11:30 a.m. to watch the Padres game, they won 4-2 over Washington.  now 12-14.  Ho hum.

*  Online at 2 p.m. to read, answer email, and write a post for mid-Monday.  Worked in the AMT ignoring and attaching Hints to the Henry White ancestors.  Managed to get through all of them by 9 p.m., adding over 60 records to the To be Filed list.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, water the front plants and lawn, and wash dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to check Facebook, and continued in the AMT Hints.  Need to do the Amy Oatley line next.  I think I didn't finish the Seaver/Hildreth/Smith?Dill folks completely, so I'll have to go back and check.

*  Working in Ancestry and Find A Grave for awhile adding sources and content to the Wh surnames.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My Genealogy Saturday - 26 April 2014

It was a fairly genealogy busy day, and I got quite a bit done.

*  Read email and blogs, and noted that Surname Saturday - JONES (England > colonial New York, New Jersey) posted.

*  Went off at 9:40 a.m. to the SD FamilySearch Library in Mission Valley for the SDGS RootsMagic user group, led by Chris.  Had a good crowd - 13 total, most experienced, some not.  Tested out the FSFT download and the improved narrative reports.

*  Home by 12:30 p.m. to see the last out of the Padres 4-0 loss to the Nationals.  Drat.

*  Noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Your "Real Life" posted.

*  Worked in the FamilySearch Family Tree - adding photos to fill out my photo tree, and life sketches (but there's a character limit which I exceeded on some of them).  Called the jury number and I have to report on Monday.  Drat.

*  Added sources and media for about 25 items from Mass town records and vital records that I had saved previously.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. for dinner, read the paper, watched TV news and washed dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, transcribe will of James Kemp and write the Amanuensis Monday post.  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and then worked in Ancestry to add content and sources to the database - got throught the Gerry surname.

Another week, more blog posts, the treadmill never seems to stop.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that 52 Ancestors - Week 17: #24 David Jackson "D.J." Carringer (1828-1902) posted.  Wrote Getting Mary--?--- as Right as Possible - Still not a Sherman IMHO and set it for later.

*  Answered several emails, also checked Facebook, got into the Rayment discussion on WikiTree and downloaded some Essex County books from Archive.org.

*  Researched and wrote Attaching Historical Records to Entire Families in FamilySearch Family Tree - Part 3: The Source Citations and Record Images.

*  Wrote the Surname Saturday post.  Added to the Best Of post.

*  Went in at 4:10 p.m. to watch the Padres game, but in a rain delay, so took a short nap.  We left at 4:45 p.m. for the Barbecue Pit in National City - Linda loves that place.  I get a roast beef sandwich and fries.

*  Home by 6 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, and water the front lawn and plants. Padres lost 10-1 to the Nationals, so now 11-13 on the season.  Still no hitting, and now bad pitching, plus some injuries to frontline players.

*  Online at 8 p.m. to read, write the SNGF post, and matched several families in RM to the FS Family Tree.  also added some head shot photos to the FS Family Tree.  Did some online research adding content and sources.  Got down through Geary.  Sources up to 51336.

My Geneaholic Thursday - 24 April 2014

This was a very full genealogy day, except for the time off for the Padres game.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 211: Sanborn Fire Insurance Map for San Diego (1921-1955), then used the app and webpage to write SCGS Genealogy Jamboree 2014 Syllabus Material Available and set it for later.

*  Downloaded many of the handouts for Jamboree for Thursday and Friday, will do Saturday and Sunday another time.

*  Answered email, wrote email to Joan for the calendar, and to the newsletter folks with the April newsletter.

*  The Terminix man came to do the review and found lots of termite problems.  Interesting video of the crawl space!  He'll send a quote.

*  Went in at 4:10 p.m. to watch the Padres game.  Read the paper, ate dinner, washed dishes and read my Daniel Silva book.  Padres won 4-3 in 12 innings over Nationals, so now 11-12 on the season.  Every game is a struggle.  Read email and blogs during the 12 inning - maybe I should do that in the 9th inning to help them along?

*  Online at 8:25 p.m. to read, then worked on D.J. Carringer's biography and wrote the 52 Ancestors post for Friday.

*  Read email and blogs, watched some of the Wacky Wednesday video, added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Genealogy Day - 23 April 2014

I finally got down to the new San Diego Public Library today for about two hours.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote The Austin Carringer House in the Early 1910s -- Post 304 for (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and News for the SCGS Genealogy Jamboree 2014 in Burbank and set it for later.

*  We left at 10:45 for Linda's doctor appointment, and were done by 12:20.  I stopped by McDonalds to pick up lunch, ate it in the car, and caught the 1 p.m. trolley at 24th Street.

*  Got to the San Diego Central Library at 1:20 p.m. (almost hit by a bus!) and went to the 9th floor and saw my CVGS colleagues there.  Chris introduced me to Kate, the librarian on the floor and we talked about genealogy for a bit.  I told her I was a San Diego native, and she offered me the Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps.  She got them out for me, and I perused them for awhile.  Took some photos of pages too.  Talked to Kate some more, and gave her my card.

* Left with John and Karen and others and we caught the 3:15 trolley south.  Got to the Chula Vista Library to turn in books and get new ones, then the bank, and home just after 4 p.m.  Checked email and blogs on my phone while Linda was on the computer.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, eat dinner, put out the trash and wash the dishes.  Padres lost 5-2 to the Brewers and it wasn't that close.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 22 April 2014

My oh my, April is waning...only 7 weeks until Jamboree!  Where does the time go when I'm having genealogy fun?

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tuesday's Tip - FamilySearch has 12 Maryland Collections and researched and wrote Attaching Historical Records to Entire Families in FamilySearch Family Tree - Part 2: A Significant Problem.

*  Wrote the SDGS program article and sent it off to Diane.  Answered more email.  Reviewed Israel's blog posts and articles about Geni.

*  Worked in Geni.com writing up a discussion and overview for Mary --?-- who married Thomas Fish.  Wrote Follow-Up on Geni.com Collaborative Tree - Getting It Right.

*  Explored several resources for parents of Hannah Rolfe born 1650 - think her parents were Daniel and Hannah (Bradstreet) Rolfe but found nothing conclusive.

*  Worked in Twitter for awhile, checked Facebook, and then found several newspaper articles for David Auble on Mocavo.  Captured them - maybe blog fodder!  Definitely biography fodder.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, ate dinner, watered the front lawn, and washed the dishes.  Padres beat the Brewers 2-1 in 11 innings (Pads now 10-11).

*  Worked in FamilySearch Family Tree, and wrote Attaching Historical Records to Entire Families in FamilySearch Family Tree - Part 1.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, answered some email, and then researched and wrote Am I Really Benjamin Franklin's 5th Cousin 9 Times Removed?

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, eat dinner, fill the bird feeders and wash dishes.  Padres lost 4-3 to Brewers, a good game, missed opportunities again.  Pads now 9-11 on the season (lost 2 straight).

*  Online at 8 p.m. again to read, answer emails, and work in the database in the G surnames, adding sources and content.  Got into the Gardners.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Saturday - 19 April 2014

It wasn't a really big genealogy Saturday... I wasn't home for most of it, or at a repository either.

*  Read email and blogs in a hurry, and left at 8:15 a.m. for UCSD and the CGSSD meeting.,

*  Went to the 9 a.m. class on Ancestry led by Del Ritchhart.  I contributed a bit.  Then the snack break, and Judy Brooks' talk on Scottish Research.  Interesting, a good overview.

*  Home by 12:30 p.m. to eat pizza for lunch, then noted that Surname Saturday - DeCAMP (France > New York > New Jersey) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Do Some Random Research had posted.  Checked Facebook, answered some email, and added to the Best Of post.

*  Worked a bit in the database on the next 52 Ancestors bio - added some deed transcriptions and sources to D.J. Carringer, plus added some photos and images to the database.  No real research.

*  We left at 3 p.m. for the trolley station, got to the Tin Fish at 4 p.m. for dinner, shared a table with some folks whose Padres seats are just below us, ate fish and chips, and had a good time singing along with Joe.

*  Into Petco Park at 5 p.m. and had my ice cream, and a cupcake, watched the game, Keith gave me some gumdrops, and the Padres won 3-1 over the Giants (now 9-9 on the season, and 7 of 10 in the last 10 days).

*  Home on the trolley and online by 9:10 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and write this post.  Genealogy today was 6.0 hours.

My Genealogy Week - 13 to 18 April 2014

We went to Huntington Beach last Sunday to pick up the grandgirls and see their new home.  We brought the girls back to San Diego that night so their parents could get things organized.  They went home today.

Each day I tried to get at least two blog posts out in the time I had to work on genealogy during the day and the evening.  That was complicated by the need to care for them (breakfast, dress, play, console, cajole, help, lunch, dinner, bath, bedtime) each day.  They went swimming with Linda on Monday and Tuesday, we all went to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park on Wednesday, and to the Padres game on Thursday.

I went to Temecula on Monday for my talk there in the evening, but got an hour in at the library and found the Hopkins silver book.  The talk went well.

Today, we packed them up and I took them to Carlsbad to meet their mom for lunch at In n Out, and was home by 1:30 p.m.  Was happy to get some time on the computer to do blog posts and even a little research in PA death certificates.

The Padres game vs. the Giants tonight was a pitcher's duel - 2-1 but my Pads won, so now 8-9 on the season, and 5-3 on the homestand.

I'm really tired of driving...200 on Sunday to HB, 150 to Temecula on Monday, 80 to Zoo on Wednesday, only 10 to the Padres, and 80 today to deliver the girls.  Another 50 on Saturday to go. 570 in a week.  It's boring...and cuts into my genealogy time.

Regular journaling will resume tomorrow!

My Genealogy Day - 12 April 2014

This may be the last journal report for almost a week - we get the grandgirls on Sunday until Friday and my writing time may be limited.

*  Read email and blogs in a hurry.  Left at 9 a.m. for the SDGS meeting, got there at 9:30, talked to many friends, got a notebook of San Diego stuff from Donna, met Annette who knew my name because of the blog post, etc.  Annette's talk was spellbinding.

*  Home by 12:30 p.m. to read, noted that Surname Saturday - ROLFE (England to New England) and Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - What Source Have You Used the Most? posted.

*  Helped Linda with her email in-basket, which wasted over an hour of time.  Checked in on Facebook and Google+ too.

*  Wrote a post for Monday and another for Tuesday just in case my time is limited.  I know Monday will be because of the Temecula talk that night.  Downloaded some syllabus material from the Orange County FHFair site.

*  We left at 4:30 p.m. for the Godfather restaurant up on Clairemont Mesa.  Had a nice dinner to celebrate our anniversary (3 weeks ago).  Posted some pictures to Facebook.

*  Home by 7 p.m. to watch the end of the Padres game.  We lost 6-2 to Detroit. Now 4-7 on the year.

*  Online at 8:45 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, and reviewed the syllabus material.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

Friday, April 11, 2014

My Geneaholic Friday - 11 April 2014

It was another full genealogy day, except for the Padres game, which was a gem, the best game of the year to date.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that 52 Ancestors Week 15: #22 Henry Arnold White (1824-1885) of Killingly, Conn. posted and then wrote FGS 2014 Award Nominations Deadline is 15 June 2014.

*  Wrote April 5th Saturday Workshop Review - New York Research and April 9th Research Group Meeting Review and three more posts on the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog.

*  Checked the EE blog and forums again, and wrote Should We Put Digital Image URLs in Source Citations?  Checked Facebook.

*  Answered a bunch of emails, added to the Best Of post, and wrote two posts for Saturday.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, then cut the front lawn and watered it.  Online at 6:25 p.m. and worked on the next 52 Ancestor person's notes and sources.

*  Joined in on GenChat on Twitter at 7 p.m. and stayed the full hour - contributed some info.  Listened to the Padres game at the same time.

*  Went in at 8 p.m. to watch the Padres game and read the paper, then sorted the church stuff I have to hand over on Sunday.  Saved 1 inch, threw out 3 inches of paper.  Padres won 6-0 on a one-hitter (just out of reach of second baseman) over Detroit.  Pads now 4-6 on the season, first winning streak of the year.

*  Online at 9:30 p.m. to read, check Facebook and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.  10 blog posts written today.

Thursday, April 10, 2014

My Geneaholic Monday - 10 April 2014

It was a pretty good genealogy day, since there were no local sports on TV.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 209: 1789 Birth Record for Hannah Sawtell in Brookline, N.H. Town Records and Dear Randy: Can I Add a Source to my Software Program From FamilySearch Family Tree Sources? - Post 2: Legacy Family Tree and set it for later in the morning.

*  Watched the DearMYRTLE video from RootsTech about Hangouts on air, and edited the New England talk one more time.  Saved it, put it in Dropbox and got it saved on the laptop.

*  worked on the laptop to get Google Drive, copy and Dropbox synced.  Turns out I was signed out of Google Drive.  I was adding files on the desktop but they weren't syncing.  Copy wasn't syncing either, so I signed into that on the desktop and copied more files into it and that synced.

*  Then it was trying to figure out why the tablet wouldn't provide cell service to the laptop yesterday.  Finally figured out that I had to turn off wifi on the tablet and turn on the cell service and the laptop was able to communicate through the tablet to the Internet.  Whew!  I knew it must be something I had no clue about.

*  Answered some email, checked Facebook, and researched and wrote Searching Ancestry.com From Within My Ancestry Member Tree, and left at 5 p.m. to meet Yvette and Ruth.

*  Got to the Dragon hole-in-the-wall that Ruth decided on at 5:30, met Yvette there and Ruth was 5 minutes late.  The dinner was OK but quick, I don't get Chinese very often with Linda's allergies. We talked a lot (well, Ruth and Yvette did, I listened.

*  We left at 6:30 p.m. and I got to the FamilySearch Library at 6:40 p.m. and found a periodical article I wanted to capture and took 30 images of it with my phone.  They came and we sat in on Margaret's class on Military records.  We surprised her with our presence.

*  I left early at 7:45 p.m. and was home just after 8.  Read email and blogs, then worked in the database adding content and sources for the Marley and Kemp families.  Found a great naturalization record for James A. Kemp in 1908.

*  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Geneaholic Wednesday - 9 April 2014

A typical second Wednesday for me, except for the two baseball games which I hardly watched.

*  Read email and blogs and wrote "Three Ladies Picking Poseys" In A 1920 View of the Carringer House on 30th Street -- Post 302 for (Not So) Wordless Wednesday and then wrote SDGS Meeting on Saturday 12 April 2014 - "Witness to Gettysburg" and set it for later.

*  Printed off more of my New York handouts, and off to McDonalds at 11 a.m. for lunch and then to the library to look in on John's group, then go to the Conference Room to set up for the CVGS Research Group.  Gary brought the projector, but I couldn't make my laptop work with my tablet or phone, or the library wifi, so I used his laptop with the library's very slow wifi.  Frustrating.  We had a good meeting with 23 attending, but it would have been better with faster wifi.

*  Home by 2:30 p.m. to watch the last inning of the second Padres game, they lost 2-0 and won 2-1 with Cleveland, so now 3-6 on the season.  Not a great start.

*  Online at 3 p.m. to read, then wrote Dear Randy: Can I Add a Source to my Software Program From FamilySearch Family Tree Sources?

*  Went in at 4:40 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, eat dinner, put out the trash cans and wash the dishes.

*  Helped Linda with her donor project papers - sent emails, got it on Facebook, etc.  Online at 8 p.m. to check email and blogs, add to the Best Of post, and answered several emails.

*  Worked on the DAR project for a bit looking for records for the lady's Seaver folks.  Not many more available online, it appears.

*  Worked for awhile in Ancestry.com, and added some content and sources to the database.  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.

My Geneaholic Tuesday - 8 April 2014

Another day with a major task completed, and another started.  Warm day here in Chula Vista, high of 94 F.  Tried to call Padres about tickets but no call back.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Tuesday's Tip - Use Genealogy Message Boards to Find Distant Cousins and then Finding Genealogy Gems in the New York Probate Records on FamilySearch and set it for later in the morning.

*  Worked on the tax returns, finished up, saved a PDF, and e-filed them.  Federal rejected it right away due to an erroneous TIN for a provider.  Fixed it.  Whew.  Expensive.

*  Answered email, checked Facebook, and researched and wrote Update on My MyHeritage Record Matches.

*  Went in at 4 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, eat dinner, water front plants and lawn,  and wash the dishes.  Padres lost 8-6 to Cleveland, and it wasn't that close.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, answer Ancestry messages, and started on 1940 census matches on Ancestry.  Did 4 or 5, adding events and sources to the database.  Sources up to 51,208.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My Geneaholic Monday - 7 April 2014

Just another manic genealogy Monday for me.  Finished some tasks!

*  Read email and blogs, and noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 213: 1832 Deed of Holland Company principals to James Vaux in Erie county, New York posted.  Jad to go back and edit the HTML a bit.

*  Got into the Mondays With MYRT green room at 8:45 a.m. and participated in the whole show.  You can watch it at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTiJET0uRCY.

*  Answered some email, read the EE forum and the Expertise blog posts again, and wrote Musings On Genealogy "Expertise," "Elites" and Education.  Got quite a few comments on this.  Walked half a mile around the dining room track while talking on the phone.

*  Remembered I had to publish the CVGS Newsletter, so printed it off (needed a new black ink cartridge) and went down to the UPS Store for 30 copies.  Mailed them there.

*  Home by 3:15 p.m. to check Facebook, answer more emails, and add to the Best Of post.

*  Went in at 4 p.m. to watch the Padres/Indians game, but it was rainedo ut.  Watched news, read the paper, we ate dinner, watered the front lawn, washed the dishes, and then watched the first half of the NCAA final game.  Walked down the street and back (about 0.3 miles).

*  Online at halftime to read, and wrote RootsMagic 6 Source Citation for an Ancestry.com Public Member Tree.  Went back in at 7:50 p.m. to watch the last 10 minutes of the game.

*  Online at 8:30 p.m. to read, and worked in MyHeritage record matches confirming and rejecting the last 28 Find A Grave matches.  Found out that there were over 100 zero star matches.  Some may be useful, so will do these next.

*  Checked email and blogs, wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.0 hours.

My Genealogy Sunday - 6 April 2014

Just another April Sunday - not much to see here folks.  But I was fairly busy...

*  Read email and blogs, and finished up Best of the Genea-Blogs - 30 March to 5 April 2014 before going to church at 9:30 a.m.

*  We were home by 11:45 a.m., and I watched the last three innings of the Padres/Marlins game.  Pads came from behind to win 4-2.  So they're now 2-4 on the season.

*  Online at 1 p.m. to read, tweet the Best Of post, and work on the CVGS Newsletter.  Got it done and ready to print.  Worked on the CVGS mailing list too to get it perfect.  Transcribed a deed for James Vaux.

*  Went in at 4:15 p.m. to read the paper, take a nap, watch TV news, eat dinner, water the plants, fill the feeder, wash the dishes and take a short walk.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, answer several emails, answered an Ancestry message, checked Facebook, and wrote the Amanuensis Monday post.

*  Used Ancestry and Find A Grave to add content and sources to the G surnames in the database.  Got to Gale.  Solved several minor mysteries, added some maiden names, etc.

*  Added to the Best Of post, checked email and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 6.5 hours.

My Geneaholic Saturday - 5 April 2014

This was not a really big genealogy day...but kind of a typical Saturday for me.

*  Read email, then went off to my church Men's group breakfast at Marie Callender's at 8 a.m.

*  Home at 9:30 a.m. to read blogs, noted that Surname Saturday - CLARK (England to Colonial Massachusetts) posted.

*  Worked on the step-by-step instructions for accessing New York Probate Records on FamilySearch, and printed it off.

*  Had a quick lunch, then left at 11:40 a.m. for Bonita library to help with the New York Research talk with Shirley at the CVGS Saturday Workshop.  We got set up and Shirley started at 12:30 p.m.  I started about 1:30 p.m. and went until 2:45.  Only 8 there, including Shirley and I.  Frustrating!

*  Home at 3 p.m., read email and blogs, noted that Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Your Genea-Selfie Photo posted, and tweeted and +ed it.

*  Went in at 3:20 p.m. to watch basketball, took a nap, read the paper, watched the Padres game (we lost 5-0 to Marlins, now 1-4), ate dinner, washed dishes and watched some of the second basketball game.

*  Online at 6:45 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, checked Facebook, and worked on the CVGS Newsletter and finished it up.  Will publish on Monday.

*  Worked in MyHeritage Find A Grave Record Matches, confirmed 20 more (leaving only 28 unconfirmed).  Added about 60 citations and some content to the database.

*  Checked email and blogs, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Geneaholic Friday - 4 April 2014

This was a genealogy day up until it wasn't when the Padres game came on.  Then we went out for dinner.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that 52 Ancestors, Week 14: #21 Hannah (Rich) Richman/Richmond (1824-1911) of Putnam, Conn. posted.  Posted  Federation of Genealogical Societies (FGS) Announces 2014 Webinar Launch and set it for later.

*  Wrote the SNGF post and Surname Saturday posts.

*  Researched in New York probate records and found the estate file for James Vaux who died in 1839 in England but had an estate in Erie County.  Noted steps for this and for land records and several other datasets for the New York talk on Saturday.

*  Captured charts and wrote CreateFan.com Has More Beautiful Multi-Generation Charts.  Transferred captured data to Ancestor Files to be input into database.  Lots to do now!

*  Went in at 4 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, and tried to nap but failed.  Padres fell behind 5-0 after 4 innings, so we left at 5:30 to go to Liz's shindig in San Diego.  Had a nice time, but the food was skimpy and different.  But free!

*  Home by 8:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and work in the database.  Finished the F names.  Added content and sources - up to 51,000 exactly.

*  Checked Facebook, read blogs and email, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My Geneaholic Day - Thursday, 3 April 2014

I was the blogging fool today - this is post #9 on the day, I think.  Got quite a bit accomplished too.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 208: Hannah (Rich) Richmond 1911 Obituary and Working With the Mocavo Sliders - Post 2: Answers to My Questions and set it for later.

*  Wrote CVGS Saturday Workshop on "New York Research" on 5 April at Bonita and CVGS Spring Seminar Review - Jean and Butch Hibben on the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog, plus one more post.

*  Revised the Mocavo post after a late email from them.  Read email and blogs, then had lunch.

*  Worked on the CVGS workshop handout for New York Research.  Planned what I was going to present.  Still not firmed up - a task for Friday.

*  Wrote Dear Randy: What Do You Do With Wrong Information?

*  Watched the "7 Highly Frugal Habits of Genealogists" by Thomas MacEntee on FamilyTreeWebinars.com.  Also read blogs and email and Facebook and captured SDGS handouts I missed.

*  Worked on the CVGS Newsletter for April for awhile.  Called for dinner at 5 p.m., watched TV news, read the paper, and washed dishes.  Took a short walk.

*  Online at 6:20 to work on the 52 Ancestors post for Friday, got it done.  Got the CVGS Newsletter about 85% finished.

*  Then worked in MyHeritage record matches adding sources and content to the database.  Confirmed 20 matches on Find A Grave (leaving 48 to do, 2690 confirmed or rejected), and added about 75 sources to the database.

*  Checked blogs, added to the Best Of post, checked email, checked Facebook, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was about 12.0 hours. Whew!

My Geneaholic Wednesday - 2 April 2014

I love baseball, I really do!  We go to some of the games, and try to watch the rest on TV.  Baseball sure changes the time I spend on doing genealogy research and writing.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote The Fern Street Apartment House in San Diego -- Post 301 for (Not So) Wordless Wednesday.  The heater guy came again and finally the thermostat works the way it should.

*  Researched and wrote Working With the Mocavo Search Engine Sliders - Post 1. Packed up and off to lunch at McDonalds and then to the library.

*  Looked in on John's group, then to the Board meeting and two hours of discussion and debate, 2/3 of it useless IMHO. Sat with Shirley again on the NY presentation and we're good to go on Saturday.  Got three books to read.

*  Home by 2:40 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, figured out that Cox email wasn't forwarding to Gmail, and fixed it (I think).  Wrote The RAGU Challenge: 3-2-1 CITE! - Abigail A. (Vaux) Smith's Birth Date.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, water the front plants, feed the birds, and wash dishes.  Susi called about her report.  Helped Linda with her no-no, and briefly read blog posts.

*  Went in at 7:15 p.m. to watch the Padres game and start my new Brad Thor novel.  Padres lost 5-1 (so we're now 1-2... drat).

*  Online at 10:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, and write this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

My Geneaholic Tuesday - 1 April 2014

This was kind of a catch all day - started off trying to think up something for April Fool's Day (why do I not plan ahead?  I dunno!).  But the Padres lost their first game tonight.

*  Read email and blogs, then made the tombstone and wrote Tombstone Tuesday - Is This My Thomas J. Newton? Not sure how many people that fooled.  Started my collection of April Fool's Day blog posts.

*  Decided I'd better do something serious, so researched and wrote Tuesday's Tip: FamilySearch Learning Center Has Over 480 Genealogy Instructional Videos.  Watched last week's Barefoot Genealogist video also.

*  Answered some email, sent an email to the CVGS list, and worked some in FamilySearch Family Tree.  Checked in on Facebook.  Found some Copeland and White VR pages for the database and captured them for attachment.

*  Went in at 3:30 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, we ate dinner and I washed dishes.  Padres lost 3-2 to Dodgers in a close game (now 1-1 on the season, no longer in first place).

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, then edited Genealogists Celebrate April Fools Day for the last time.
*  Worked in MyHeritage checking out record extraction, then did 21 more record matches in Find A Grave - down to 68 to go.  Added content and sources.  Up to 50904 sources now.  Added to the Best Of post also.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.5 hours.
