My Genealogy Friday - 20 December 2013

It was not much of a genealogy day - only wrote, worked with my iPhone, and read.  No research.  More shopping and a little success.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Follow-Up Friday - Interesting and Helpful Reader Comments and then Fascinating Composite "Then and Now" 1906 San Francisco Earthquake Pictures and set it for later.

*  Wrote a post for next week, and then went off shopping at 12:30 p.m. Fashion Valley looking for nice clothes for Linda (not many I liked at Macys, Penneys, or Nordys) and jewelry (found a nice cubic zirconia emerald set at Macys, 60% off retail).  Home by 3 p.m.

*  Read email, and answered several emails.

*  Worked on getting my music onto the iPhone.  Went through the music list and tried to edit the artists and titles to be consistent, and eliminate duplicates.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV news and eat dinner.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and then imported the music to the iPhone using the USB connection.  Worked!   Added photos to the two grandkid collections, and imported them as well.  Used the Apple Help to figure this out, it wasn't simple.

*  Researched and wrote two Surname Saturday posts, and read the 1884 issue of The R.I. H.S. periodical on Google Books.  Interesting!

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 19 December 2013

It really wasn't much of a genealogy day due to other commitments and priorities.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 193: Death Certificate for Betty Virginia (Carringer) Seaver.  Watched Sheri's video and wrote Sheri Fenley's "Dancing Reindeer" Christmas Video With Her Friends.

*  Went off at 11 a.m. for the shopping center, walked by every store and got nothing.  Zip.  Frustrating.  Went to Costco for a Polish dog for lunch and bought nothing there also.  Home by 1 p.m.

*  Researched and wrote First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 12: Family Bow-Tie Chart.  Checked in on Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and updated apps and stuff on the iPhone.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner and read the paper.  We left at 6:15 p.m. for the play at the North Park Theater.  We saw "White Christmas" - it was a bit hokey but okay, good cast and production.

*  Home by 10:45 p.m. to read, write this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 18 December 2013

This was a pretty full genealogy day - got some things accomplished and added more stuff to the new iPhone.

*  Read email and blogs, and had my first FaceTime experience with Tami and the grandgirls.  Wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 287: Bjorg and Linda in the Rain at Gjelle Farm in Norway.  Researched and wrote First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 11: Migration Mapping Chart and set ir for later in the morning.

*  Left at 11:10 a.m. for the bank and the library, and sat in on John's research group.  Got another book to read over the holidays, stopped at McDonalds for lunch.

*  Home by 1 p.m. to read, check Facebook, check Ancestry and FamilySearch collections, and worked in WikiTree merging profiles and reading the George Allen research summary.  Answered some email, and wrote a book review for next week.

*  Used the iPhone to test out Siri, and wrote Fun With my Christmas Present...an iPhone 5s.

*  Went in at 5:30 p.m. to watch TV news, eat dinner, put out the trash and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to update apps on the new phone, look at some of them, write another book review for next week, and answer more email.

*  Worked in MyHeritage Record Matches on Find A Grave records.  Confirmed 31 more, down to 736 to confirm or reject.  Up to 48,125 sources.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 17 December 2013

I actually went shopping today for Christmas, and really made out well.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tombstone Tuesday - James and Hannah (Rich) Richmond in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam, Conn. and then Adding Early Seaver Generations to the WikiTree Shared Tree.

*  Linda came home at 11:30 a.m. and we left for In 'n' Out for lunch, then to Verizon for my big Christmas present.  I got an iPhone 5s, and since Linda couldn't upgrade yet without a penalty, we moved her phone number to the iPhone 4.  I had signed up for iCloud earlier, so all of my iPhone 4 apps and data were transferred to the 5s.  We shopped at Wal-mart and got Linda some new clothes for Christmas.

*  Home by 3:45 p.m., I wrote Dear Randy: "What Is Your Naming Convention for Downloaded Documents?"

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, we ate dinner, and I deleted some of the apps on the iPhone 4, signed Linda into Facebook, Gmail and several other sites on the iPhone 4, and taught her how to use the phone.  Added her contacts manually since they couldn't be transferred from her old phone.  She seems happy.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, and work in the database adding content and source from Find A Grave using MyHeritage record matches.  Confirmed 23 more, 764 left to do.  Sources at 48,054.

 *  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 16 December 2013

This was pretty much an all genealogy day - didn't go shopping again!  Maybe tomorrow!

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 199: Will of Mary Magdalena Spangler (1706-1784) of York, Pennsylvania posted, and then tuned in to the pre-show for Mondays With Myrt at 8:45 a.m.  Show started at 9 a.m., and we went until 10:40 a.m.  I talked a bit about my Norwegian research, the research wiki, saving Ancestry digital images, etc.

*  Looked for and found the Voss bygdeboker online, and wrote about it in I Found the Voss (Norway) Bygdebøker (Farm Book) Online!

*  Went to 23andMe to see if my autosomal DNA estimate had changed.  It had, but not much - see 23andMe Autosomal DNA Estimate Has Changed A BIt.

*  Worked in the database for awhile, added all of the Voss parish records sources and images found to date to the database.  Need to add the recent PA wills too.  Fixed the sprinkler system, I hope.

*  Wrote "What good is it to access a newspaper image on Ancestry.com, and not be able to see it after my subscription runs out?"

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, then watch football, and we ate dinner.  Washed the dishes afterwards.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, and then worked in the database.  Got the last 16 Elizabeths done.  Whew!

*  Wrote this post.  genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Sunday - 15 December 2013

*  Printed off my committee stuff and off to church at 9:15 a.m. for the 9:30 meeting.  Done, then the church service.

*  Online at 1:30 p.m. to start on holiday week posts, got 8 done this afternoon.  Went in about 2:30 p.m. to watch football, read the paper, and take a nap.  We had dinner at 5 p.m. and watched more football.

Saturday, December 14, 2013

My Genealogy Saturday - 14 December 2013

I didn't go shopping again.  I really should...actually, I did some shopping online.

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Surname Saturday - CARR (England to Rhode Island) posted.  Wrote Saturday Night Genealogy Fun - Pauleen's Christmas Meme and set it for later.

*  Lots of trouble with the computer today - slow, email sluggish, web sluggish.  Rebooted this morning, then after noon, by the time I get to evening and do research it works fine.  Strange.

*  WikiTree upload worked, so went and checked it out.  I still need to link Shubael's children to him and Hannah Wilson, but other than that it looks pretty good.

*  Worked in the FamilySearch Family Tree using RootsMagic - added only 3 families and it still took about 3 hours.  Have the Seaver line almost fixed now.  I hope.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, eat dinner and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and wrote two blog posts for the Chula Vista Genealogy Cafe blog.

*  Copied Ancestor Files to Copy cloud, and other things to Google Drive.  Worked most of the evening off and on adding my old photos to flicker account.

*  Worked in the database adding the rest of the Robert Sever/Lydia Meade family memorials from Find A Grave.  Added 144 sources today, most of them from FAG.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.0 hours.

My Genealogy Friday - 13 December 2013

Another Friday the 13th - I don't have triskedekaphobia, but I stayed home all day and had genealogy fun.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote A Source Citation for Anna's Death Record in Voss, Norway, and then Enter a Genealogists.com Slogan Contest and Win $200 and set it for later.

*  Searched for Auble data in Chicago and then on GenealogyBank - didn't find what I hoped to find.  Did get Georgia's obituary.

*  Researched and wrote RootsTech 2014 Schedule is Available - 238 Sessions.  Worked in the RootsTech app a bit.

*  Went into the Norway DigitalArkivet again and found 5 more BMD records, couldn't find 3.  Got image and PDF files for all 11 to date, and renamed them.  Need to make citations for all of them now.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, eat dinner, and wash the dishes.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, wrote the Surname Saturday post, downloaded some Great Migration sketches, and worked in MyHeritage Record Matches.  Got tied up in Find A Grave matches for Seaver folks in Williamstown VT - added about 150 sources tonight - and never got back to record matches.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 11.5 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 12 December 2013

Some blogging, a little genealogy, a little shopping, and the Chargers beat the Broncos tonight.  Will Ceasars never wonder?

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 192: Julia (White) Richmond's 1913 Death Certificate and then researched and wrote First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 10: Left-to-Right Descendants Chart.

*  Home by 2:30 p.m. to read, then wrote Finding Norwegian Church Parish Records in DigitalArkivet Website.  That was fun - I learned how to get the image file.  Checked Facebook and Google+.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch the pre-game, we ate dinner, and watched my Chargers beat the Broncos 27-20.  We're now 7-7, with a slight playoff chance.

*  Game over by 9 p.m., came in to read, check Ancestry and FamilySearch, download the new CVGS photos from Dropbox, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 7.0 hours.

My Genealogy Wednesday - 11 December 2013

13 more shopping days until Christmas.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 286: The Voss, Norway Parish Church and then First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 9: Gathering Media Files and set it for later in the morning.

*  Left at 10:45 a.m. for the library and the CVGS Holiday Luncheon.  Won a table decoration and received a crappy gift (decorated stocking with body lotions...and a few candies).  Oh well, I gave away a jar of M&Ms - first one picked!   Good food, good company, funny presentation by Gary.

*  Stopped by the post office to mail the 90 Christmas cards, then home by 2:45 p.m. to read, check out the MyHeritage Scandinavian records, and write First Look at MyHeritage Scandinavian Matches.  Checked Facebook.

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to read the paper, watch TV news, and eat dinner.  We took Nellie a casserole, and home by 7 p.m.

*  Looked for some of the Voss, Norway events in the DigitalArkivet and succeeded - using the dates and farm names, was able to find the birth, death and marriage records for several persons.  Saved them as a PDF, named them, and need to make images of them, then attach them and source them.  That was a challenge, and fun!

*  Worked in the database on Elizabeths with no birth date and no surname (had like 24 on the list), found some of them, and solved several maiden name problems - added content and sources when possible.

*  Added to the Best Of post and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.5 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 10 December 2013

Only 3 more weeks left in 2013.  Wow.  Where has the time gone?  The days just fly by and I try to avoid going shopping.  Soon, I fear!

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Tuesday's Tip: Check Out the University of Idaho's Repositories of Primary Sources.

*  Exported a new GEDCOM into Legacy and then wrote First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 8: Relinking Media Items.

*  Had lunch and left at 12:30 p.m. for the dentist office for routine cleaning.  Found a pitted old filling, so need to have that replaced in tooth #12.  Drat.

*  Home by 2:15 p.m. to face no electricity - a power outage in most of south Chula Vista.  Fed the bird feeder, and read email and blogs on the iPhone then read Facebook on the tablet.  Power back on at 3:30 p.m.

*  Online to read, then wrote Dear Randy - How Can I Get Ancestry.com Data Into a Genealogy Program?  Very carefully!  Printed off the second page of the Christmas letter.  All set now to fold,  stuff, and seal.  soft

*  Went in at 5 p.m. to watch TV news, read the paper, and eat dinner, then we worked on the Christmas cards.  I folded the letter and sealed the envelopes, Linda stuffed the envelopes and labeled them.  We finished simultaneously!  Teamwork.

*  Online at 7:45 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, check Facebook, then worked in the database trying to find approximate birth dates and maiden names for all of the Elizabeth LNU in the database.  Found some names, found more approximate dates, added content and some sources.  Didn't finish the Elizabeth LNUs though, but made a dent in them.

*  Checked Facebook, wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 8.0 hours.

My Genealogy Monday - 9 December 2013

Less than 12 days for me to shop for Christmas - the pressure builds!  What will Angel Linda get for Christmas?

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday - Post 198: Will of Rudolf Spangler (1738-1811) posted.

*  Ready for Mondays With Myrt at 8:30, but we didn't get on video until about 8:50 a.m.  Had a full show, wearing my Genea-Santa hat, and talked about probate records quite a bit.

*  Spent some time adding posts to the Amanuensis Monday Posts page.

*  Researched and wrote First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 7: Source Quality Measures are a New Feature.

*  Had lunch, checked Facebook, back online to work on AmericanAncestors Essex probate records - downloaded John Norman and Richard Norman records.  Wrote Essex County, Massachusetts Probate Packet Files Now on AmericanAncestors.org.

*  Went in at 5:10 p.m. to watch TV and read the paper, we ate dinner, and I did the dishes.

*  Online at 7 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and worked on the California Marriages, 1949-1959 on Ancestry for Seaver persons.  Found maybe half of the 36 entries in my database, or added them to my database by searching for parents already in the database.  Added content and sources.

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

*  Read email and blogs, finished up the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 1-7 December 2013 post.

*  Off to church at 9:30 a.m., home by 11:30 a.m., gave Jay his ancestry report from 2008 again.

*  Read email and blogs, but watched football (two snow games...) then the Chargers game.  Beat Giants 37-14 and it wasn't that close.  Next up is Broncos on Thursday (guess I won't do much research on Thursday!).  We started the Christmas card shuffle - she corrected the mailing list and  wrote cards, and I stamped and labelled.

*  Online at 4:30 p.m. to check email and blogs, then updated the mailing list and made labels.  Went in for dinner and TV news.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and then wrote the Amanuensis Monday post.  Worked in the database for awhile adding content and sources.  Updated the Best Of post also, and wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 5.0 hours.

My Genealogy Saturday - 7 December 2013

*  Left at 9:45 a.m. to go to Bonita library for the CVGS Computer workshop with my laptop.  Read email there, noted that Surname Saturday -- HELME (England > Colonial New England) posted, and worked with Sam on FTM 2014 exploring how to do web clipping, capture media, etc.  Had cookies for lunch, and some of Sam's chips.

My Genealogy Friday - 6 December 2013

Well, that Christmas gift for Linda won't be!  I can't upgrade her phone until February 28th.  Drat.  What else can I get for the woman who has everything?

*  Finished up the CVGS Newsletter and printed it off to copy later.

*  Wrote List of United States Records on FindMyPast.com and set it for later.

*  Wrote this post, and i'm done.  Genealogy today was 9.5 hours.

My Genealogy Thursday - 5 December 2013

20 days until Christmas now, and less than that for shopping.  Woke up to rain again, and cold.  I've been cold all day - the house thermostat is at 72F but it feels 65 all the time.  Wore my jacket part of the day.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - Post 191: 1852 Marriage Certificate for Edward Hildreth and Sophia Newton in Northborough, Mass. and then worked in RootsMagic a bit and wrote RootsMagic 6 Update - Adds Source Citations to Pedigree Charts.

*  The plumber came and replaced the faucet in front of the house.  Easy job, $75.  Wasn't even raining.

*  Answered some email, then wrote SDGS Seminar on Saturday, 11 January Features Lisa Louise Cooke!  Sent the reports to John also.  Printed off Jay's genealogy from 2008 - he lost his copy.  Wrote RootsTech 2014 Keynote Speakers Announced.

*  Left at 10:30 a.m. for lunch at McDonalds and to the library by 11 for the CVGS Board meeting.  That lasted until 1 p.m.

*  Finally remembered to reserve room for RootsTech at the Hilton in SLC - it has an indoor pool and hot tub for Linda - nothing else really matters!  Also got airline reservations - was able to use the funds we saved on the Florida flight home in October.  We go to SLC on 4 February, and home on 9 February.

*  Worked in the database adding content and sources from Ancestry and Find A Grave.  Solved several previous mysteries too!

*  Wrote this post.  Genealogy today was 10.0 hours.

My Genealogy Tuesday - 3 December 2013

I shopped but didn't drop...didn't find anything either, although I tried!

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tombstone Tuesday - GEDDES in Mount Hope Cemetery, San Diego and First Look at Legacy Family Tree Version 8.0 - Post 4: Origins Report.

*  Went off at 10 a.m. to Plaza Bonita to shop for a birthday gift for Linda.  Looked at Macy's and Penneys for blouses and jewelry, but saw nothing I'd want to get.  Stopped at Catherine's and had no luck there also.  On to Costco where I had lunch and bought roses, and then to Rite-Aid for a card, and home by 12 noon.

*  Read, answered email, then wrote A Dill Cousin Connection, and More.

*  Worked in the computer files and database, trying to add previously collected images to persons in the database, along with sources.  Realized I needed more, so went to American Ancestors and found pages for my Medfield and Walpole families.  Started trying to put them into the right surname file folders but didn't get too far.

*  We left for dinner at Black Angus in the rain, had an OK dinner, brought some home.  She had a reaction to her steak. She made me eat her free dessert because it had soy in the ice cream.

*  Read email and blogs, and joined the Mondays With Myrt HOA for the first 30 minutes.

*  We left at 9:45 a.m. for church for the Ace Wischstaft memorial service.  Very well done with a military salute, the flag ceremony, and a reception.  Ate lunch (cookies and munchies) there.

*  We left at 4:15 p.m. for La Jolla, got there early, and had a delightful 2 hours with Marnie and Gay.  Marnie is my 6th cousin in a Dill line, and grew up within one mile of me in San Diego.  We left at 7, stopped at In 'n' Out for dinner, and home by 8 p.m.

*  Read, checked Facebook, then worked in the database adding sources and content.  Added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.   Genealogy today was 7.5 hours.

My Non-Genealogy Sunday - 1 December 2013

It was not much of a genealogy Sunday...but it's football season.

*  Read email and blogs, and finished up the Best of the Genea-Blogs - 24 to 30 November 2013 post.

*  We went off to church at 9:30 a.m. and were home by 11:30.  I watched football, ate lunch, read the paper, and had some time on the computer to read but didn't do anything useful.

*  Watched the Broncos-Chiefs game, listened to the Chargers-Bengals game.  Bolts lost 17-10, not a good game.  Now 5-7 and almost done for the season.  We had dinner watching the lowlights.

*  Online at 5:30 p.m. to transcribe a long will, then wrote the Amanuensis post and another for Monday morning.  We have a funeral to go to.

*  Did about 30 minutes of searching to add data to the database, didn't get much done.  Maybe tomorrow?

*  Tried to check Facebook but not responsive, so added to the Best Of post and wrote this post.  genealogy today was 5.5 hours.
