My genealogy day - 31 July 2012

It was pretty much an all-genealogy day with some interruptions.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Tombstone Tuesday - Geraldine Seaver Remley (1917-2007) and then United Kingdom Databases on FindMyPast.com.

*  My shower was cut short after 7 minutes because the hot water cut off for some reason.  Called the installer of the tankless heater to complain.

*  Left at 10 a.m. for the health center for my doctor's appointment.  Stopped at the pharmacy on the way home, got home at 11:30 a.m.

*  Water heater guy came at 12:15 and said he had no clue... he called a plumber to come.  I did some experiments...have about 3 gal/minute to the kitchen sink.

*  Researched and wrote  Getting Benjamin Seaver (1791-1825) Right on FamilySearch Family Tree.

*  Worked on handout for RootsMagic workshop and answered some email.  Plumber came, read the user's manual, and said he thinks the unit is defective.  I agree - there is a 0.5 gal/minute shutoff limit - if flow falls below that, the hot water stops.

*  Watched the Padres game, lost 7-6 to the Reds, ate dinner, washed the dishes, read the paper, watered the front plants, etc.

*  Online at 7:15 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and do some Find-A-Grave work.  got through #1000 in Seavers.  Found a Seaver line in Missouri and added quite a few folks from it.

*  Checked Facebook, and wrote this post.

My genealogy day - 26 July 2012

This was a stay-at-home day once I got back from the health center...

*  Went early to the health center for my lab tests before my doctor's appointment next week.  In and out in 10 minutes, but took 10 minutes to get there each way.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - the 1880 U.S. Census Record for Frank W. Seaver Family then searched for my grandmother Seaver in the 1940 Census in Massachusetts, with no success.  Did find my father(again) using the index - see 1940 U.S. Census - Looking for Grandmother Seaver.

*  Online at 6:30 p.m.to try to sort out the FamilySearch Family Tree problem, and got four Seaver families (Benjamin, Benjamin,Isaac and Frank) cleaned up and orderly.  I'll have to work this several at a time.  It is a really big mess - not of my doing!

My genealogy day - 25 July 2012

This was a pretty good genealogy day - I found some interesting things, did some organizing, went to the CVGS meeting, worked a bit in FamilySearch Family Tree and did some online research.

*  Read email and blogs, wrote (Not So) Wordless Wednesday - Post 215: The 21-year-old Geraldine Seaver and then My Dad - "A Second Rudolph Valentino" and International Record Collections on FindMyPast.com and swet it for early afternoon.

*  Packed up and went to McDonalds for lunch at 11 a.m., then the ban and then the library for the CVGS program.  Got there at 11:40 and talked to Gena for awhile, she brought her boys along and they helped with the technology.  Gena's talk was excellent - on "Remember the Ladies."

*  Online again at 6:30 p.m. to do more file naming and adding photos to the Photo sections of my Ancestor Files.  Answered some emails, then worked in the FamilySearch Family Tree trying to correct the relationship errors in the tree - especially the Benjamin Seaver problems.  Worked in the database finding sources and content, then did about 20Find-A-Grave entries for Seaver folks.

*  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

It was a very busy and full genealogy day here at Randy's Genealogy Cave...

*  Read email and blogs, wrote Tuesday's Tip - Vermont Record Collections on FamilySearch, watched Lisa's videos and then wrote Lisa Louise Cooke's Latest Podcast and Videos with Gena Ortega.  Wrote Need Research Services? Want to Provide Research Services? Check out the Global Alliance of Genealogical Professionals and set it for early afternoon.

*  Answered some email, played a bit on FindMyPast, had lunch, and left at 12 noon for the Mission Valley Library.

*  Got to the library at 12:30 p.m., opening time, got set up (nothing was set up, a library guy got the screen down, the video hooked up, and I was ready by 12:45 p.m. for the 1 p.m.start of my Genealogy - Be An Ancestor Detective.  This group of 40 seemed to be really attentive, and asked many good questions.  We ended at 3 p.m. and it seemed like 30 minutes had gone by.  One attendee said that I inspired her to do family history research - she loved my examples of records and family stories.  Cool - that's what I want them to think and say!

* Home by 12:45 p.m. to read, and note that the Comparison post was on schedule.  Got a phone call from Colorado about the Metcalf family, so rummaged around and tried to find my Metcalf notebook - finally found it after moving most of the floor piles.  Added content to the database for Burgess Metcalf, and then worked on adding sources for the descendants - using FamilySearch NH and VT VR collections.

My genealogy week - 16 to 20 July 2012

I know, I let this blog slip during the week.  Honestly, I had every intention of writing every night...but I've been somewhat busy.

1) Monday, 16 July:  I had my second OASIS class today and blogged some.  Watched the Padres game too - Pads lost, I think.

2) Tuesday, 17 July:  Got ready for the road trip on Wednesday, blogged some, and we went to the Padres game, won 8-2.

Stayed overnight with Ruth and Rudy - great hosts! Pads won again.

4)  Thursday, 19 July:  Had breakfast with Ruth and Rudy, shopped at Walmart for a bathing suit, met Tami and the girls at the water park in Riverside at 11 a.m.  Had great fun and didn't get burned...thank God for shade!  We left at 3 p.m. and stopped at Black Angus for dinner at 5, and home by 6:30 p.m.  Did some reading, and Pads won again, 1-0.

5)  Friday, 20 July:  An all genealogy day, reading, blogging, got the two Saturday posts done also, and did some online research and database work.  Watched the Padres game, they won 9-5. Now 6-2 after the All-Star break, and 40-55.

My genealogy day - 10 July 2012

It was mostly a genealogy day, with real life in the middle of it.

*  Up early without much sleep since Linda had an allergic reaction last night - perhaps a wasp sting in bed.  She wanted me to go spray outside at 7 a.m. -- I did, but ran out of spray.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Tuesday's Tip - Lisa Louise Cooke's Genealogy Gems Website and Geneablogging for Fun, Research Success, and more, and set it for later in the morning.

*  Looked for Pennsylvania estate/will records for Feather and Spangler in Mercer County without success.  Found will of first PJKing in York County and saved it.  Looked for Ruth records there also.

*  Wrote What to make of this telephone call... and then went in to eat dinner, watch the All-Star game, water the back yard, water the front plants, and spray the wasp nests.

*  Online at 7:30 p.m. to read, check Facebook, add to the Best Of post, and add content and sources and  delete unconnected families in my database.

*  Wrote this post.

3)  Monday, 9 July 2012:

*  Read email and blogs, noted that Amanuensis Monday - the Will of Alvina Seaver (1848-1923) posted.  Wrote Genealogy Database Statistics Update - July 2012 and set it for late morning.

*  Gathered the handouts, laptop, USB drive and off to teach my OASIS class at 10 a.m.  got there at 9:30 and met the new Director, and turned in my receipt for the handouts.  Had a full class of 10, with lots of good questions and commentary.

*  Home by 12:45 p.m. to eat lunch, read and write Customizing the RootsMagic 5 Toolbar.

*  Worked some more on the Jane's Roots presentation and got it pretty much finished.  I need to time it now...sometime!

*  Went in at 5:30 to watch the Home Run Derby, eat dinner, read the paper.  Linda went and got wasp spray and I did that when she got home.  Little buggers...

*  Added content and sources to the database for several hours.  Checked Facebook, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.

My genealogy day - 6 July 2012

Another mostly genealogy day, although no research performed.

*  Read email and blogs, then wrote Follow-Up Friday - Helpful Reader Comments.  Wrote Benchmark Numbers for July 2012 and set it for early afternoon.  Blogging done!

*  Gathered my papers, and headed to McDonald's for lunch, the bank for cash, and Gary's for the CVGS Board meeting.

*  We sat under the trees on a nice 75 F day...and worked almost 3 hours.  Gary had a lunch spread, and brought the horse out at the end,.  I fed him carrots.

*  Home by 3:15 p.m. to read, check Facebook, and work on the CVGS Newsletter. Got it about 85% done now.  Will finish it up on Saturday and publish it!

*  We had dinner at 5:45 p.m., and I came back to the computer to edit the OASIS Class 1 handout one more time.  Went in at 7 p.m. to watch the Padres game and read my book, and printed off the four masters for the OASIS handouts after editing each one another time.

*  Padres lost to the Reds, 5-0, so back online at 9:45 p.m. to read, add to the Best Of post, and write this post.

My genealogy day - 5 July 2012

Well I'm home from Brookdale and all grandfathered out!  I did manage to read every day, and had some time on Tuesday to write two blog posts.  I flew home on Wednesday, and we went to the church picnic and watched fireworks from the Country Club next door at 8:30.  It was over by 9, and I read but didn't write a post.

Today, however, was a significant genealogy day.

*  Read email and blogs, and wrote Treasure Chest Thursday - 1920 U.S. Census Record for Frederick W. Seaver Family.

*  Reviewed and edited my four OASIS class handouts, and will copy them on Saturday.  Answered some email (managed to get it down from 50 to 26 today).

*  Researched and wrote Finding James Vaux Probate Records in Erie County, New York.

*  Worked on the Jane presentation, adding content and editing format.  Got about 50% of the England material added, so am about 75% complete now.  Will try to finish it up on Saturday and Sunday.

*  Wrote Live Blogging my Ancestry.com Survey on Hints and then went in for dinner at 5:30 p.m.  After dinner, put the trash out, fed the birds, and watered the front plants.

*  Started the CVGS Newsletter - got it started, but then went in at 7 p.m. to watch the Padres game, read the paper, and read the book I started on the airplane home.  Padres won 2-1 on a walkoff hit in the 9th over the Reds - now 6 wins in a row (34-50), and not in last place!

*  Read, added to the Best Of post, and wrote this post.
